Woody Woodpecker is no longer relegated to Thanksgiving parades. The psychotic cartoon bird is headed to the big screen courtesy of Universal. The studio is now in talks with Blades Of Glory co-writers John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky to develop the story.

Illumination, the animation house behind Despicable Me and The Lorax, will be responsible for bringing Woody back to life (heh, heh), which is great news. In an age where so many cartoon classics are given the live-action/CGI treatment, it’s refreshing to see an interest in creating straight up cartoons. However, this is just conjecture. It could easily become a live-action/CGI blend with an Andy Samberg-voiced woodpecker chasing master jewel thief Heather Graham. It’s just how these things sometimes go. (THR)

That's it. I'm hiding my money in a fake rock.

Bank of America‘s announcement that they will issue a $5 monthly charge to debit card users has only served to remin the American people that banks don’t care about their customers. They are corporate machines fueled by greed and low moral fortitude. But still, they sometimes have free hats and Frisbees.

With that in mind here are some movie banks and bankers that might be more evil than their real life counterparts.

Arthur Case – Inside Man

I’m not sure which is more evil. Banks or Nazis? But have you ever considered the possibility of a Nazi bank? That’s one bank that I wouldn’t want to borrow from. Just imagine their foreclosure practices.

Centabank – The Bank

The titular bank in the Australian movie The Bank is completely corrupt. CEO Anthony LaPaglia declares, “I’m like God with a better suit.” You know you’re in trouble when the guy holding your money has a God complex. It’s no wonder that his customers are so found of Marmite sandwiches. There isn’t much else they can afford.

There’s a new anthropomorphic, animated animal that we’re to believe is wildly outrageous due to his drum skills and choice to wear a shirt but no pants. As if partial public nudity weren’t exxxtreme enough, the rabbit is also voiced by Russell Brand. So, get ready for some carrot jokes. They’ll probably go something like this, “I’ve got a carrot. (pause) But not the type you’re thinking of!” And then the skin-bags on “The View” will queef in unison.

But anyway, here we have our first look at Hop in the form of a teaser trailer. From the creators of Despicable Me, it’s pretty much a rabbit playing Blur’s “Song #2″ on the drums, though he seems to be having difficulties maintaining the beat or riding the hi-hat properly. That’s why I only recruited raccoons to join my band. Let’s show ‘em, Wookie and the Bandits! (Moviefone)

Gru and his yellow, midget cyclops minions strut to The George Baker Selection's "Little Green Bag" in the new international teaser for Despicable Me. Much like the first trailer, it sticks by its name and teases you like some prude high school cheerleader who loves having a slut rep. Only thing is, I'm not saluting, much like I would a sexy president (Got that President's Day mention in there! Boom!) The movie is about diabolical Gru trying to steal the moon, and his mushy-brained slug children helping him in that quest. Their odd appearance and funny dialect is most likely a result of inbreeding. I'm sure if they assimilated themselves in the U.K. they'd blend right in. That's right, I'm an ignorant American today. It's President's Day. These colors don't run! Check out the teaser after the jump. Despicable Me hits theaters July 9, 2010.

The Despicable Me trailer looks despicable meh. It introduces us to #1 Super Villain Gru (Steve Carell) and–OH WAIT he’s been bested by a Syndrome-from-The-Incredibles-esque Super Villain named Vector (Jason Segel). The two then battle wits, which seems more like an exercise in futility for Gru considering Vector has saws, sharks, lasers, missiles, and a boxing glove mechanism that targets your crotch.

Apparently Despicable Me is about Gru trying to steal the moon when his efforts are thwarted by three orphans who want him to be their da-da. None of this comes through in the trailer, except for a shot of the dirty orphans at the end. There isn’t even a damn moon! I’ll give this film the benefit of the doubt for now, but unless more impressive footage comes out soon I’m thinking an episode of Pinky and the Brain might trump Gru’s best efforts.
