Fox Hires ‘Fringe’ Writer For Very Necessary ‘Daredevil’ Do-Over

Taking a cue from Marvel and Universal’s Hulk redo in 2008, after the disappointing 2003 Ang Lee version, Fox is trying again with Daredevil. Ben Affleck‘s less-than-beloved 2003 take on the blind lawyer superhero will not be the last. I’m sure the studio is feeling the super-power of franchise re-tinkering, after the successful open of X-Men: First Class, and they don’t want those movie rights leaping back to Marvelville.

“Fringe” writer Brad Caleb Kane has been tapped to write the new Daredevil movie, based on the sacred-to-nerds “Born Again” run by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. It’s a quasi-Job story where Kingpin makes life really, really hard for Daredevil once he learns that his secret identity is lawyer Matt Murdock (thanks to a heroin-addicted porn actress, no less).

Fox Yields To Non-Existent Demand For ‘Daredevil’ Reboot

America’s least-dear superhero, Daredevil, is getting the reboot treatment. This is getting ridiculous. Why would Fox reboot a mediocre-at-best film that’s only eight years old? Well, according to Coming Soon, if they don’t make another Daredevil film within a year, the rights revert back to Marvel. So at least they’re doing it for all the right reasons. Legal interests rights always spur the greatest cinematic achievements.

Director David Slade got his card pulled to direct the film, so expect to see something in the vain of his previous projects, ranging from Hard Candy to 30 Days of Night to Twilight: Eclipse. So Daredevil will either be Ellen Page or a vampire. Maybe both. (Coming Soon)

Jude Law In Talks To Chill On ‘The Demeter’

Fuck it. Jude Law gonna chill.

And then he’s about to find out how much cruises suck. The actor/chillologist is in talks to board the deadly Last Voyage of the Demeter. Based on a segment from Bram Stoker‘s Dracula, the Demeter is the doomed vessel that transported Count Dracula from Transylvania to England. While in transit, the vampire broke free and ate the ship’s crew one by one. It’s like a steampunk version of Alien.

David “I Stake For Vampires” Slade is attached to direct with Noomi Rapace and Ben Kingsley also circling roles. There’s no word on whether or not the actors will be on the menu or fitted for fangs. I hope that Kingsley is given the Dracula role over a lifeless CGI-creation or a lifeless Eurotrash actor. It’s been awhile since he’s gone off the chain and he’s already a knight. He can pretty much do whatever he wants as long as he upholds his promise to defend England against future dragon attacks. (Bleeding Cool)

David Slade Still Big Into Vampires

Director David Slade, he of 30 Days of Night and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse wants everyone to know that his interest in vampires is NOT just a phase. His next project, also about vampires, and not dumb dinosaurs or super-heroes, is called The Last Voyage Of The Demeter, about the ship in Bram Stoker‘s Dracula that is found ravaged by the famous vampire. The movie is supposed to be Aliens-style horror as the crew of the Demeter are picked off by Dracula.

Noomi Rapace and Ben Kingsley are both attached to the project but it’ unknown if they’re still going to do it or not, especially if the filming conflicts with Prometheus. I’m hoping this means that Kingsley is supposed to play Dracula, which would be awesome and a shame if it doesn’t happen. (via The Playlist)

Darren Aronofsky Enters The ‘Wolverine 2′ Race

David Slade would be wise not to decorate his home office with Wolverine action figures just yet. Though it was believed that the helmer of Hard Candy and assorted vampire movies was a shoe-in for the Wolverine Goes To Japan directing gig, a new contendor has emerged. Granted, he’s a highly-unlikely candidate, but Darren Aronofsky‘s hat has somehow been thrown into the ring. Whether he threw that hat himself, or some neighbor kid bully threw it in the ring just to be a jerk remains to be seen.

Given Aronofsky’s body of work, I’m going to go ahead and rule him out. The X-Men films have been twisted into goofy, popcorn wannabe-action films, and Wolverine is no exception. Though if anyone could lend some gravity to the material, it’s Aronofsky. Look what he did for Marlon Wayans. (Deadline)

David Slade Will Most Likely Direct ‘Wolverine 2′

David Slade, director of Twilight Eclipse, 30 Days of Night, and Hard Candy, is the lead contender to helm the sequel to the X-Men Wolverine spin-off, the aptly titled, Wolverine 2. His sole competition is Robert Schwentke, who last directed The Time Traveler’s Wife, and has the upcoming Bruce Willis vehicle, Red. Hugh Jackman himself will pick the winner, so let the ass-kissing begin. According to Vulture, "A well-placed source inside the production insists: ‘It’s going to be Slade.’" Looks like someone already sent a fruit bouquet to someone else’s house.

I suppose I’d prefer Slade to Schwentke since I’m big fan of Hard Candy and he made the least sh*ttiest Twilight movie, but I feel strongly that the sequel to Wolverine couldn’t be any worse than the original no matter who’s directing.

Oh no. I’ve gone and done it again. I’ve said the words that release the evil genie who travels on a bed of Cheetos dust.
