We’ve seen thrillers where characters are trapped in phone booths and on cellular phones. Now, it’s come to this — a thriller that happens almost entirely on a bicycle. Joseph Gordon-Levitt races through the streets of New York as a bike messenger trying to avoid crooked cops in Premium Rush. Written and directed by David Koepp, it looks like a fun take on action movies. Boardwalk Empire‘s Michael Shannon also stars along with Dania Ramirez, Jamie Chung, and Aasif Mandvi. You might remember that Mandvi also played that pizza guy who fired Peter Parker from his delivery job in the beginning of Spider-Man 2. Good to see he’s still working dispatch. Nobody knows the city like that guy.

David Koepp In Charge Of Making Johnny Depp Charming In ‘The Thin Man’

Johnny Depp bounces back fast. Thanks to diet and exercise, he’s already got his next franchise lined up after the implosion of Disney’s The Lone Ranger. David Koepp has been called in to script the reboot of The Thin Man. The film will show Depp as a dashing drunk named Nick Charles, who teams up with his socialite wife, Nora, to solve a murder.

The original film is considered a classic and spawned five sequels, which I’m sure is intriguing to Depp. It would be nice to slur his way through the same character constantly without having to slip into a pirate costume to do so. The reboot is being planned as a Sherlock Holmes-esque update that will mix high adventure with the iconic characters. Rob Marshall will direct, so expect a little song and dance as well.

No word on who will play Nora or the couple’s dog. (Deadline)

David Koepp Is The Latest Writer To Get Submerged By Jack Ryan Reboot

Here’s the easy part of this story: writer David Koepp has been tapped to pen a new version of the untitled Jack Ryan origin story film formerly known as Moscow. How we got to this point is a little crazy, so I’m gonn break it down step-by-step:

1. After the success of Star Trek, Paramount hired writer Hossein Amini to script a Jack Ryan movie for Chris Pine.

2. Paramount buys a spec script called Dubai and tells writer Adam Cozad to make that the Jack Ryan movie.

3. Unhappy with that take, Paramount hired Anthony Peckham to rewrite Cozad’s script.

4. Then writer Steve Zaillian was brought on, but quickly abandoned ship.

5. Project goes into limbo.

6. David Koepp gets 7-figures to rewrite Cozad’s script. Which of the hundreds of drafts lying around Paramount’s offices will be the starting point for Koepp’s version is anyone’s guess.

7. 40 more writers are hired and fired.

8. Eight years later, the screenwriting robot is finally complete and Robo-Writer 9000 electoni-pens the perfect rewrite in 4 minutes. None of the human writers get an on-screen credit.

Jack Bender (“Lost”) is attached to direct. That much has not changed… for now. (Deadline)

David Koepp Rewarded For Doing A Bad Job The First Time

Sony Pictures has decided to keep David Koepp after MiB III class. The writer has been hired to do several more weeks worth of work on the script bugs for the galaxy defending sequel and revise the words that will come out of the cast’s pretty mouths.

The production have yet to shoot the sequence that shows Will Smith’s Agent J in 1969, where he meets Josh Brolin as Young Tommy Lee Jones and Alice Eve as Young Emma Thompson. Perhaps those are the scenes that need the most work according to Sony. Either that or they want more jokes about how Elvis could totally secretly be an alien. (Deadline)
