Field will star opposite Daniel Day-Lewis as The Great Emancipator, and I just realized that particular nickname for President Abraham Lincoln sounds dirty. *Chuckles Heartily* As Mary Todd Lincoln, Field is expected to have a major role. Spielberg praised Field for being able to portray the “fragility and complexity that was Mary Todd Lincoln.” (Read: Craziness.) However, her age is a little awkward: Field is 67, older than Mary Todd was when she finally kicked the bucket. Eh, she still looks good. She’ll pull it off – worst case scenario, Spielberg calls someone at Industrial Light and Magic. Badda bing, badda boom.

As we thought, the rumors about Scorsese directing Wolf Of Wall Street this summer were as reliable as Bernie Madoff. The Leonardo DiCaprio movie will not be the Taxi Driver director’s next project. “Alright then, wiseguy. What is?”

We have confirmation his next project will be Silence. Though it’s debatable whether or not it’s golden, Silence is a drama based on Shusaku Endo’s book about two Jesuit priests in the 1600′s on a tumultuous journey, who travel to Japan to find their mentor and spread Christianity. It sounds a lot like a Harold and Kumar style road movie, only not like that at all. Silence has long been a passion project for Scorsese, though hopefully not in a creepy Passion of the Christ kind of way.

Benicio Del Toro and Daniel Day-Lewis will star, and the story was adapted by Jay Cocks (Gangs of New York). There’s no official shooting dates yet, because Scorsese still has to finish his crazy-sounding 3D movie Hugo Cabret. (The Playlist)

Brilliant and eccentric method actor Daniel Day-Lewis will stop shaving today, as Steven Spielberg has chosen him to play our great nation’s 16th President in Lincoln. The announcement was made today by Spielberg and Stacey Snider, Co-Chairman and CEO of DreamWorks Studios.

“Daniel Day-Lewis would have always been counted as one of the greatest of actors, were he from the silent era, the golden age of film or even some time in cinema’s distant future I am grateful and inspired that our paths will finally cross with Lincoln,” said Steven Spielberg. “Throughout his career, he has been exceptionally selective in his choice of material,” added Stacey Snider, “which makes us feel even more fortunate that he has chosen to join with us for Lincoln.”

Day-Lewis teaming up with Spielberg for the first time can only mean good things. Several years ago, Liam Neeson was attached to play Lincoln, because the guy looks exactly like him, but the project never got off the ground and Neeson went on to star in everything else that has filmed since then. Production of the Tony Kushner adapted script from the novel Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns is expected to begin fall 2011 for a release at the end of 2012. That gives Day-Lewis almost an entire year to master that unique Honest Abe gigantism strut. (TheWrap)

Those with dreams of seeing Daniel Day Lewis square off against Robert Downey Jr. with a bowling pin in one hand and a cleaver in the other may be out of luck. Or in luck if they’re as delusional as Guy Ritchie. His Sherlock Holmes 2 Moriarty wishlist leaked and Double-D Lewis is perched at the top, followed by Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, and Gary Oldman.

As awesome as it would be to see Lewis lord over all the criminals in England, it’s highly unlikely that he’ll take the part. Like anyone at the top of their game, he’s super-choosy with his roles, and more apt to pick a part that challenges him on some deep level. And let’s face it. The first Sherlock Holmes was pretty silly. We’ll keep you posted on Moriarty casting as this story develops and would like to throw John Malkovich‘s name into the running. Seems like he’ll be in anything. (Production Weekly)

Yeah, yeah, yeah, you don’t want to see a movie about prancing and harmonizing, I get it. But let’s not forget about all the hot chicks that are starring in Nine. Also, Daniel Day-Lewis is the lead, and I think we can all admit that Mr. Day-Lewis doesn’t F around with subpar material. Take a look at the new trailer, which actually explains the plot instead of just shooting sequins and gams at the screen, and see if it doesn’t change your mind.
