MGM recently filed for bankruptcy, and you know what that means. It’s time for them to make movies! Don’t ask me how the government works because I cannot enlighten you. The Hobbit is finally scheduled to begin filming in February, and now it looks like MGM’s other huge franchise, the James Bond series, is picking up steam maybe but who the hell knows for sure.
Over the weekend we got c*ck-teased with snippets of images from a first look at Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn: Longest Title Ever. Now Empire has officially unbuttoned its blouse and unleashed the goods. We have three honest-to-goodness official images.
Jamie Bell plays Tintin and Snowy his dog is played by…not Andy Serkis! Haha! Gotchu! You totally thought that since it was a mo-cap animal it HAD to be Andy Serkis. He's not in every mo-cap movie, ya know? But he is in this one, as Captain Haddock. You couldn't keep that guy away from a unitard with diodes on it if you tried.
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn: Longest Title Ever doesn't come out until next Christmas, so check out the pics after the jump to get a taste.
New photos from the set of David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo reveal Daniel Craig will look like Daniel Craig. Question though, is there a wardrobe stylist on this movie? If so, does she know how to use an iron? Those pants are just…. oh my God. I can't believe he went out in public wearing pants that wrinkled. C'mon, is he playing a journalist or a blogger? Step it up, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo stylist!! Pants that wrinkled will never earn a nomination in one of those boring Oscar categories. (Just Jared)
Check out a pic of a punked-out Rooney Mara after the jump…
Director: David Fincher
Cast: Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Stellan Skarsgard, Christopher Plummer, Robin Wright
Synopsis: A journalist and a computer hacker team up to solve a 40-year-old murder.
Release Date: December 21, 2011
Hollywood's most prominent young actresses can quit their cat fighting. Rooney Mara has been granted the coveted role of Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon tattoo adaptation. Her deal includes an option for two sequels based off the second and third book in the Millennium Trilogy, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.
Mara, younger sister of hottie Kate Mara, will run and hack computers alongside Daniel Craig, who's already been cast as the investigative journalist and part owner of the magazine Millenium. Both Robin Wright and Stellan Skarsgard are also in talks for roles. Our deepest condolences go out to Ellen Page, Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, Carey Mulligan, Mia Wasikowska, Emily Browning, and every other starlet who really REALLY wanted to nab the role of the decade. We hope these words help you in your time of grief: Life's unfair and stuff. (Deadline)
We keep getting casting news on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo except the news we care about. No, they still haven't found the actress who will play the computer hacker Lisbeth Salander, but Robin Wright has joined the film as Daniel Craig's casual f*ck buddy. According to Deadline, Wright "is in talks to play Erika Berger, the publisher of crusading finance magazine Millennium, and the occasional lover of journalist Mikael Blomkvist."
With Fincher directing, I hope Wright and Craig remember to stay well-hydrated. He'll have them simulating sex take after take after take to Nine Inch Nails until they can't possibly simulate sex any longer. Craig will get frustrated, Wright will get sore, and Fincher will confer with Brad Pitt, who I assume lives in his shirt pocket.
Jon Favreau is putting on a brave face when discussing the dissolution of his bromance with Robert Downey Jr.. He's spoken out about Downey's need to jump off Cowboys & Aliens in favor of Sherlock Holmes 2 and seems to be a pretty good sport about it. He also tells The Playlist about the joys of working with Hollywood codger Harrison Ford.
"That's sort of an inside joke between us," says Favreau. 'I said, "You're coming to Comic-Con with me' and he said, 'I've never been there. I'm not going. If you're going to bring me, you've got to bring me in handcuffs.' I showed up with handcuffs yesterday on the set from the prop man. And so he cam and wore the handcuffs on stage."
Which really was not a good idea. That room full of Crystal Skull haters ripped the restrained Ford limb from limb. Harrison J. Ford 1942 – 2010.
When asked about what we might expect to see from him next, Favreau responded that he'd like to take on the zombie genre. Prepare yourselves to see Vince Vaughn just eating everything in sight. More than usual.
Daniel Craig (pictured above as Indiana Jones and the Raiders Of The Iron Man Prop Closet) has been officially confirmed as the lead in David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Now that the Bond franchise won't be calling upon him anytime soon, Craig is free to pop over to Sweden to shoot with Fincher as soon as he wraps Jon Favreau's Cowboys and Aliens.
Craig will play a journalist who teams up with a young hacker to take down a powerful Swedish family, just like Inspector Gadget (Ed. Note: it's nothing like Inspector Gadget). Fincher's still on the hunt for his tatted female lead, reportedly having narrowed his list down to five young actresses: Emily Browning, Rooney Mara, Sophie Lowe, Sara Snook, and French cinema royalty Lea Seydoux are all up for the part. But only one will be deemed worthy of the basilisk tramp stamp. Developing… (Deadline)
Our sentiments exactly.Looks like MGM's brokeassedness will cost them a lot more than just The Hobbit. The studio's historic James Bond series is also reportedly out this bitch. Production has halted on the upcoming Sam Mendes-directed Bond 23, and that it may not begin again. In fact, it could be years before we see Bond on the big screen again. Which means we'll have to spend our time mercilessly blowing up our friends with proximity mines. Which gets old after the first few hundred times. From the UK Daily Mirror:Production crew were told in April the £132million blockbuster, starring Daniel Craig, had been postponed amid “financial problems” at debt-ridden movie studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, which co-funded the film. But now it has confirmed the movie has been axed – and it could be years before the secret agent with a licence to kill is back on the big screen.Bond has been MGM's golden ticket for years on end. If they can't scrape together assets to make another blockbuster, it's unlikely they'll weather this storm. Better keep those Daniel Craig popsicles in the freezer for now, lame housewives and weird dudes. They're scary collector's items now.
Back in college, we played so much Goldeneye that my friend instinctively ran off the basketball court during a big game because he noticed a blue backpack that resembled the game's body armor in the bleachers. Now, a new version of the game is making its way to the Wii and it looks amazing, and Daniel Craig-y. My college friends have all scattered, so I'll need to round up three willing competitors. I think I'll ask my building's security guard. I bet he's good with a gun, and at spying on people in the bathroom. There will definitely be a "No Oddjob" rule in effect. He always aims for the kneecaps and that's just bullsh*t. CHECK OUT THE MOVIE-RELATED GAME TRAILER AFTER THE JUMP…
Daniel Craig hasn't made a movie since 2008, but it looks as if his schedule is about to fill up fast. The actor best known as James Bond is close to nabbing the part of Mikael Blomkvist in David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The film is the first in a three-part series based on the crime novels of Stieg Larsson, and Craig is expected to sign on for all three installments.Rumor has it that Brad Pitt was close to landing the role, but was "edged out" when a bikini-clad Craig showed up at David Fincher's house and offered to wash the director's car. Fincher filmed the wash, and was so impressed by Craig's physique the he offered him the job on the spot. True story. (Collider)
Jon Favreau tweeted this little morsel from the set of Cowboys & Aliens to get your appetite so whet your superiors are wondering why the mop handle in your grip is covered in drool. Though can we really be sure this is official just because the director of the movie released it?My overbearing paronia insists that the pic could be a clever marketing campaign by Disney for Toy Story 3. If Woody was flesh and blood THIS is how he would look, always hauling a backlight around with him so we could never be certain of his identity. Oh no, you're not pulling the wool over my eyes, Lasseter. First the subliminal Nazi propaganda shorts before the main attraction and now this? If you weren't so damn awesome at what you do I'd have a good mind to shake an angry fist at your visage. That and my angry fist is buried deep in a tub of animal crackers at the moment. I know there's an elephant in here somewhere…
Economic hard times haven't only hurt 85% of everyone you know, forcing them move back with their parents and job hunt to no avail for 14 straight months. No. The deflation has also taken its toll on cocksure British spies who get laid pretty much constantly and introduce themselves in needlessly redundant ways. The cash-strapped MGM has announced that development on Bond 23 has been halted indefinitely.Producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli have issued this statement:Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on ‘Bond 23′ indefinitely. We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of ‘Bond 23.’That sucks. I hate it when a film franchise isn't afforded the opportunity to be sequeled into oblivion to the point where the plots and villians all melt together into one homogenized, exploding blur. Stories like this really need to spread their wings, y'know? And has no one taken into consideration the feelings of the poor TBS Superstation? Now they'll likely never get to celebrate '23 Days of Bond' properly. (Coming Soon)
DIRECTOR: Steven SpielbergCAST: Jamie Bell; Andy Serkis; Simon Pegg; Daniel Craig; Nick FrostSYNOPSIS: Tintin and his friends discover directions to a sunken ship commanded by Capt. Haddock's ancestor and go off on a treasure hunt.
Last we heard about Jon Favreau's Cowboys & Aliens was that original star Robert Downey Jr. was bailing in favor of talking like a British queef in the Sherlock Holmes sequel. Since that time, Daniel Craig has agreed to strap on the chaps left empty by Downey Jr.. Today comes news that Olivia Wilde has joined the cast. Probably in a sexily way, knowing her.Wilde will play Ella, a woman who joins Craig's gunslinger in the uprising against an alien invasion. Shooting is expected to begin this summer. No word yet on when the porn parody Reverse Cowgirls & Aliens will go before cameras. But we'll keep you posted. (THR)
Naomi Watts has signed on to star opposite Daniel Craig in Jim Sheridan's Dream House. The title of the film is an ironic pun because the story is actually about a father that moves his family into a murder house. Way to go, Dad.Watts will play the family's neighbor in the small Connecticut town where it is apparently not rare for a house to make a father slaughter his family. Between this and The Haunting In Connecticut, the Martha Stewart State is getting a pretty bad rap. They're gonna have to amp up their key parties if they want to win me back. (THR)
