Craig Gillespie On ‘Pride And Prejudice And Zombies’: “I’m Out This Bitch!”

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has chased away another suitor. Craig Gillespie is the third director to hand off the hot potato project. Originally David O. Russell was attached. Then when he walked, Mike White stepped in. However, his duties at HBO forced him to pull away. Then Lars and the Real Girl’s Craig Gillespie took over. He’s now gone as well over a casting disagreement.

You see, the other problem that the project is facing is that nobody wants to star in the damn thing. The film’s producer Natalie Portman isn’t interested in the role. Emma Stone, Mia ~~Wasikooksskiwawa~~ Wasikowska and Blake Lively have also passed. At this rate, I guess we could wait a couple years for Chloe Moretz to reach the appropriate age. (Deadline)

Thus far, Fright Night 3D has made three promises. 1) it will be frightening. 2) it will take place at night. 3) it will jump off the screen and charge a higher ticket premium. But, there’s been some fears that the movie won’t be frightening enough. The studio’s marketing aims to alleviate those fears with yet another trailer. This time, it’s an international trailer.

It features more horror elements than the previous cuts, and features more David Tennant. Which makes sense seeing as international audiences actually know who he is. Frankly, I don’t have to be sold. I’ve seen enough to know it will keep me entertained. I’ll still watch the next three trailers though.

A number of writers have sacrificed their brains for the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies script, including David O. Russell and Michael Bacall. No doubt the screenwriters have been copying passages of other zombie movie scripts and Jane Austen books, then pasting (“mashing”) them into the script. Now another writer is getting this plumb job on the very buzzy/bloody project.

Marti Noxon (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer“), whose last name sounds like an element on the periodic table, has turned in a new draft adapting Seth Grahame-Smith‘s bestseller. It makes sense that director Craig Gillespie would want to work with his collaborator on”Fright Night.” The story concerns Elizabeth Bennet’s battle against zombie hordes, but distracting her is the arrival of one Mr. Darcy.

‘Pride And Prejudice And Zombies’ Going With A Living Director Named Gillespie

The movie version of the successful-for-some-reason novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies needs a director who can handle the subtle balance between social satire and undead hordes. I personally think they should have gone with an undead director for this – Zombie Sidney Lumet, for instance, would be just the kind of deft and unfussy visual stylist a project like this needs. But no, the producers have confirmed that they’re going with living (and previously attached to the project) director Craig Gillespie, continuing the trend of anti-zombie discrimination in Hollywood. Here’s a quote from Lionsgate president of Motion Picture Production Ali Shearmur on the Gillespie, whose previous credits include Lars and the Real Girl and the upcoming remake of Fright Night:

“We are so excited to have Craig Gillespie on board this film,” said Alli Shearmur, Lionsgate president of Motion Picture Production. “His sensibility spans from genre-bending horror to elegant character-driven comedy, which is perfect for this movie.”

Sure, completely ignore the fact that yet another non-zombie director is being trusted to make a movie about zombies. Just shameful.

Craig Gillespie Back From The Dead To Direct ‘Pride And Prejudice And Zombies’?

Months ago, it looked like director Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) was at the front of the horde to helm Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Then Lionsgate turned their attention to fresh brains like the team-up of author Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg, the son of some other guy named Katzenberg. Lenny Katzenberg, I think.

However, Gillespie seems to have eaten his way back to the top of the list. The rumor is that Lionsgate has told all the other potential directors “thanks, but really no thanks,” and that Gillespie will soon be signed. Jane Austen but with zombies, here he comes? We’ll soon find out. (Deadline)

Great googley-moogley. Sofia Vergara has a sister. And she’s hot. And judging from the picture above, that sister has a friend who is a photographer/dentist. But wait, there’s more! She’s also an actress, and has just been cast in Craig Gillespie‘s Fright Night remake.

Sandra Vergara will play the girlfriend and assistant to David Tennant’s magician turned reluctant vampire hunter. F*cking magicians, man. Always pulling top-notch ass. No matter how fugly/creepy/gropey they are as people. Never thought I’d rue the day that I didn’t learn to juggle. (THR)

Notable Geeks Mintz-Plasse and David Tennant Join ‘Fright Night’

In news that is sure to make you say, "Hrrmm, yeah. That’s okay. I guess," Christopher Mintz-Plasse and David Tennant have joined Craig Gillespie‘s Fright Night remake. The pair will use their soft joke-fingers to comically-relieve and tug the laughter out of audiences. Gently at first, but then harder and faster as the film approaches its climax.

Tennant will play Peter Vincent, a character who in the original movie was played by Roddy McDowall as the host of a late-night horror show. In the remake, he’s a Las Vegas magician whose show revolves around horror-movie imagery. Vincent claims to be a vampire expert, but when the teen turns to him for assistance, he’s less than helpful.

Mintz-Plasse is playing Evil Ed, Yelchin’s friend who feels slighted that Charlie has left his nerdy past behind and thus joins the vampire’s coven.

In my experience you need to be careful when a middle-aged man dresses in a cape and claims to be a vampire expert. Last time I did that, the chubby teens at the Hot Topic turned me in to mall security. (THR)
