This January, Broad City returns to Comedy Central. That means more misadventures, more defeats, more victories, more awkward nudity, and some yelling at kittens. I’m sure it will all make sense in the context of the episodes. Even if it doesn’t, so what? It’s still one of the most entertaining shows on television.

December 18, 2014. Mark your calendars if you’re the type of person that a) really likes Stephen Colbert, and b) has a calendar that you can actually write on. That date marks the final episode of The Colbert Report. Following that night, Stephen Colbert will revert to the abyss before re-emerging in 2015 as a wholesome, non-satirical everyman to take over for David Letterman.

So there ya go. The end is in sight.

Honestly, I’m excited to see what Stephen Colbert can do when he drops the affectations and just is himself. I was afraid that he would develop into some sociopath if he had to keep up his Colbert Report persona for much longer.

In the wake of this news, we still don’t have a date for Letterman’s final show, nor Colbert’s first show in his stead.

Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele will finally be making the jump to the big screen, having emerged as buzz-heavy comics on the small screen, then on smaller (laptop) screens. They will star in, produce, and co-write a film called Keanu that will follow the theft of a cat by the same name.

Keanu Reeves will have nothing to do with this film, but likely serves as the inspiration for the cat’s name.

The duo will pose as drug dealers in an effort to infiltrate the street gang who they believe stole their cat. Oh dear God, yes.

This comes after Key and Peele had been circling a reboot of Police Academy, a Judd Apatow film, and a spinoff of Mr. Garvey, one of their skits.

One month ago, NBC hired a gentleman named Chuck Todd to host their Sunday morning politics show Meet the Press. Since then, the show has been coming in third in that arena, behind This Week and Face the Nation. However, it seems that Chuck Todd wasn’t NBC’s first choice.

Rather, they sought out a far more polarizing, and definitely more interesting choice: The Daily Show‘s Jon Stewart. Shortly after Stephen Colbert had been given the call to host The Late Show, NBC reached out to Stewart to see if he wanted to take his brand of commentary and discussion to a more “institutional” setting. He declined.

While Stewart would have alienated current viewers with his snarky tone, and political leanings, the fact is that viewership is dying off, literally and figuratively, and Stewart could have brought his loyal viewership with him for some new blood. I mean, there’s not a lot of competition on Sunday mornings, and he does make politics more interesting than most.

(NY Magazine)

It’s possible that he could have maintained his Daily Show gig while still hosting Meet the Press, but why mess with a good thing?

Recently, we’ve seen Stephen Colbert, who has a Kaufmanesque way of staying in character during the run of his show, break out a little bit. Likely, he’s trying to let the public know that he’s not the mechanized conservative moralist that he portrays on his show, but a regular, funny dude.

Last night, he took one more step in that direction by calling Bill O’Reilly a “f*cking egomaniac.” Why? Just because O’Reilly generally is that. Also, O’Reilly called out Stephen Colbert and “people of his ilk” for not knowing how to fight a war against ISIS. They don’t know ground wars the way the guys at Fox know ground wars.

Watch the damn video.

It’s pretty easy (and normally correct) to say that you shouldn’t spin long-form entertainment from something as thin and disposable as a Twitter feed. Just ask CBS and the guy behind “@shitmydadsays.” But because we’re greedy, and we crave too much of a good thing, we insist on getting more and more from certain jokes than Twitter has to offer. Granted, the novelty account @dadboner also has a book, entitled Power Moves: Livin’ The American Dream, USA Style, so that’s helpful.

And while the similarities between @shitmydadsays and @dadboner are many, it’s much harder to say no to the novelty account that follows a Michigan man, Karl Welzein, as he loves rock n’ roll, babes, and other awesome things. The Comedy Central adaptation of the account will be animated, which leaves more room for the absurd (though Shit My Dad Says getting William Shatner was pretty absurd).

But what’s not to like about this?:

There is nothing not to like about that.

Jim Gaffigan, the G-Rated comedian who gave us earworms about Hot Pockets and bear jokes, has been circling a self-starring TV show most of his professional life it would seem. However, the stars never aligned to give him a good, durable vehicle.

Now, with the fragmentation of TV audiences, he is a more natural fit for some networks. One such network is TV Land, which has launched several family-friendly comedies based on familiar faces. Not only will TV Land be premiering the episodes, but Comedy Central will re-run each one a week later. TV Land is just flat-out giving the episodes to Comedy Central for promotional consideration, which sounds like a pretty good deal for both networks, actually.

The Gaffigan Show pilot was re-shot this year with Adam Goldberg, Michael Ian Black, and How I Met Your Mother‘s Ashley Williams, so that group should be good for a few laughs. Might this be the show that gets us to tune into TV Land?

Eh, maybe.

This season we see Dumb Starbucks, advertising on gravestones, 40 maids cleaning one house in under 10 minutes, and a liquor store advertising that they sell to minors. Judging by the footage used here and Nathan Fielder’s masturbating Santa Instagram posts, this season will not disappoint. Unless you’re a minor hoping to buy alcohol or someone who doesn’t want to see Santa masturbate.

Those familiar with South Park know that one of its greatest competitive advantages over other shows, animated and non-animated, is its ability to address super-current events thanks to a production schedule that has them writing scripts as near as six days out from the air date.

This became somewhat common knowledge after the fun and insightful documentary Six Days to Air, which follows a typical week for the South Park creators leading up to an episode.

The highwire act finally hit a snag when South Park Studios in Santa Monica lost power and several crucial hours of productivity on Tuesday night, which was probably crucial animating and editing time for Wednesday’s show.

All is not lost. The episode will air on October 23, and the Scott Tenorman episode aired last night, which might be one of the best episodes in the history of television. So, all good. We can wait.

While its reincarnation hasn’t made many waves outside the scope of the original fanbase, that rabid fanbase was good enough for a huge second time around for the show, which managed to keep much of its production and voice cast intact despite the obvious lag between iterations.

It’s all over now. At least, until someone else sees Futurama as an opportunity to capture a market segment that’s eluded them until now. NBC, that’s your cue to do something reckless and crazy.

I can’t imagine a politician with a more rabid following than Mr. Colbert, but it’s still a bit early to think of what this means for us as a country. Stephen Colbert, the late-night pundit who seemingly hasn’t broken character in ten years or so, is leading an initial poll in which South Carolinians were asked who they would want filling the soon-to-be vacant seat of Jim DeMint.

20% of the constituency would like to see him take the position, with the next-closest “candidate,” Tim Scott, coming in at 15%. Probably because Tim Scott doesn’t have his own TV show. What a joke.

The Governor will appoint the seat, which is probably due to some weird little clause that I knew back in AP Government, but have since forgotten, so it’s not JUST a popularity contest. Something tells me that Colbert won’t end up with the gig, but his involvement sure will make it interesting.

Ron Fuckin’ Swanson. Nick Offerman. He’ll be raising money for autism (against autism, actually) and for every $1,000 he receives, he’ll get a little more naked. What’s not to like? Charity, Nick Offerman, burly, mustachioed nudity. This program is shaping up to have it all.

Things are about to get weird. Workaholics returns to Comedy Central for a third season Tuesday, May 29 at 10:30 p.m., following the summer premiere of Tosh.0.

In honor of this debaucherous event, we’ve put together the craziest GIFs we could find that showcase Blake, Adam, and The Ders partying hard and hardly working. Apologies for GIF #50.

Hope. Change. Truthiness.

He’s been hinting at it for a few days on The Colbert Report but now Stephen Colbert is closer to entering the race to become the not-Mitt Romney everyone should vote for in the Republican primary. The decision came after a recent poll placed him ahead of Jon Huntsman in his home state of South Carolina. To date, Republicans have not won the presidency without first winning South Carolina.

After going home and discussing it with his money, Colbert came back to his show last night to take his first steps toward the White House. Campaigners are not allowed to run political action committees, so he had good buddy Jon Stewart drop by to legally sign as sole owner of Colbert’s super pac. Under Stewart’s control, it will be renamed the Definitely Not Coordinated with Stephen Colbert Super Pac.

Of course, if he does enter the race (again), they’ll probably pull him from the ballot (again). But how great would it be to have Colbert in the White House? He’d give his staff the best nicknames and bears would be nuked to extinction.

Over the years, South Park has had enough musical guest stars to make Coachella queef. And those musicians the show either couldn’t get or had no interest in paying were simply imitated… usually poorly. The results, though, were always hilarious and always memorable.

So take a look at the musical guests of South Park, and let us know who you think got sh*t on the worst. And if we left anyone out, tell us in the comment section.

Comedy Central’s hit show South Park has inspired all kinds of merchandise, from T-shirts to actual Cheesy Poofs to South Park Airlines, which provides direct flights from Atlanta to Denver on planes painted to look like various South Park characters and flight attendants dressed as Chef. Now, there’s going to be an RPG (or “role-playing game”) based on the show which is sure to either be mocked or completely ignored on South Park.

Players are categorized by five unique classes: “Fighter, mage, thief, cleric and Jew.” Yes, “Jew” is one of the classes in the game. And as you can see from the picture, it looks like the people at Obsidian Entertainment have nailed the visual style of the show in addition to the sense of humor. So, if you’re into RPGs, and you like South Park, start stocking up on bandwidth and Doritos now. (Rock Paper Shotgun)

You might not recognize the name, but the face has been present for several celebrity roasts and cameos over the past 3-4 years, and if you listened to Opie and Anthony, then the voice is probably pretty familiar too. He was 41 years old when he died.

In October, O’Neal suffered a large stroke that left him unable to speak, and he never fully recovered. Despite having been a working comic for almost 20 years, it seems as though O’Neal’s star was just beginnign to rise, as he scored his first TV comedy special last February for Comedy Central.

Fellow comedian Doug Benson, upon hearing the news proclaimed, “A sad day for comedians and comedy in general.” For those unfamiliar with O’Neal’s work, here’s a clip from the aforementioned stand-up special on Comedy Central.

Sarah Silverman and her brand of baby-talk profanity have been recruited by NBC to star in a pilot for next fall. Should the show get picked up, it would most likely be added to a lineup that would include shows from Whitney Cummings and Chelsea Handler.

Readers, say hello to “Sort-Of Attractive and Not-Really-That-Funny Wednesdays.” This fall, on NBC! * xylophone chimes*

One saving grace for the show is that it’s a pet project of Ron Howard, who gave us Arrested Development and, therefore, is a more important American than Abraham Lincoln. The (sort of) logline is (from Deadline):

“Loosely based on Silverman’s life, the untitled single-camera comedy stars the comedian as a woman readjusting to the single life after a decade-long live-in relationship. Silverman wrote the script with Dan Sterling and Jon Schroeder, who were writer-producers on her self-titled Comedy Central series.”

Well, I wasn’t the hugest fan of her CC show, but I fear that when here profane charm is ground down by the network so as not to offend anyone, the results will be less than stellar.

Still, it’s gotta be better than Mike and Mindy or whatever the hell that other show is called.

Good news in the sleepy mountain town of South ParkComedy Central announced today that it will be picking up the Trey Parker and Matt Stone‘s sick creation for another three seasons, which locks it down through its 20th season in 2016. Even if we’re all going to be dead by then, it’s nice to know that the groundbreaking show will live on, making fun of hybrid vehicles and natural disasters long after we’re gone.

This should quash rumors (often propagated by Stone and Parker themselves) that they were getting sick of the series and their attention was turning to other projects, like their The Book of Mormon musical and maybe some sort of strange continuation of That’s My Bush! I wonder what changed their mind. Maybe it was the dumptrucks of money that Comedy Central drove up to their houses. Or the siren call of art.

But probably the cash.

Amy Schumer sparked controversy with her Ryan Dunn joke on last night’s airing of  The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen. She addressed Dunn’s fellow stuntman and friend Steve O saying, “When Ryan Dunn died Steve-O probably was thinking it could’ve been him, with the rest of the world wondering why it wasn’t.”

Really? That started controversy? It wasn’t directed at Dunn and it wasn’t particularly that harsh. In fact, I made a similiar joke when I wrote Dunn’s obituary. Also, it’s a roast. That’s the point. It’s supposed to be gloves-off pot shots. If we were interested in watching famous people fart out watered-down yuck-yucks, we’d have watched Two and a Half Men instead.

Point being, the joke wasn’t over the line. It was more observational than it was malicious as it was the common reaction to the news of Dunn’s passing. Here are nine jokes that were much more harsh from The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen.

  • “You’re just like Bruce Willis — you were big in the 80s and now your old slot is being filled by Ashton Kutcher.” — Amy Schumer
  • “The only reason you got on TV in the first place is because God hates Michael J. Fox.” — Anthony Jeselnik
  • “Brooke Mueller is not very bright unless Charlie throws a lamp at her. … Mike Tyson, your opponents spent more time bleeding in the corner than Charlie’s ex wives.” — Jeffrey Ross
  • “Charlie, you claim to have ‘tiger blood,’ but after all the porn stars you’ve [had sex with], it’s probably Tiger Woods’ blood.” — Seth MacFarlane
  • “If you’re winning, this must not be a child custody hearing. The only time your kids get to see you is in reruns — don’t you want to live to see their first 12 steps?” — Jeffrey Ross
  • “Charlie still hasn’t hit rock bottom. He’s looking forward to it though, because he thinks there’s a rock there.” — Steve O
  • “Charlie Sheen is still alive! Charlie, you were amazing in Platoon. Your marriage to Denise [Richards] was kind of like her Vietnam because she was constantly afraid of being killed by Charlie … There’s no denying how famous you are. It was international news when you ruined the lives of those two girls living with you—you know, your daughters.” – Amy Schumer
  • “Mike Tyson, your opponents spent less time bleeding in the corner than Charlie’s ex-wives.” — Jeffrey Ross
  • “Charlie Sheen called his boss on Two and a Half Men a ‘Jew ki**’ and expected to go back to work. That’s crazy. If you could do that and keep your job, then everybody would do it.” — Anthony Jeselnik

Daniel Tosh‘s banker is about to get paper cuts. Comedy Central will rain cash on the comedian for Brickleberry, an animated series in which he’ll provide a voice in addition to serving as executive producer. Tosh will be working with series creators Waco O’Guin and Roger Black on the 10-episode order that is set to premiere in 2012.

The story follows the adventures of a group of dysfunctional national park forest rangers. No word on which character Tosh will play, but I can see him as a dysfunctional park ranger or a mischief-making talking bear. Either way, he’ll be stealing food from campsites. (Variety)
