After some time on Fox, time spent in Adult Swim rerun purgatory, some DVD movies, and then a whole slew more new episodes on Comedy Central (52, precisely), it looks like the plug will be pulled on Futurama after the end of this season, number seven.

While its reincarnation hasn’t made many waves outside the scope of the original fanbase, that rabid fanbase was good enough for a huge second time around for the show, which managed to keep much of its production and voice cast intact despite the obvious lag between iterations.

It’s all over now. At least, until someone else sees Futurama as an opportunity to capture a market segment that’s eluded them until now. NBC, that’s your cue to do something reckless and crazy.

GO!

I can’t imagine a politician with a more rabid following than Mr. Colbert, but it’s still a bit early to think of what this means for us as a country. Stephen Colbert, the late-night pundit who seemingly hasn’t broken character in ten years or so, is leading an initial poll in which South Carolinians were asked who they would want filling the soon-to-be vacant seat of Jim DeMint.

20% of the constituency would like to see him take the position, with the next-closest “candidate,” Tim Scott, coming in at 15%. Probably because Tim Scott doesn’t have his own TV show. What a joke.

The Governor will appoint the seat, which is probably due to some weird little clause that I knew back in AP Government, but have since forgotten, so it’s not JUST a popularity contest. Something tells me that Colbert won’t end up with the gig, but his involvement sure will make it interesting.

If Chris Rock can be president, so can he.

Hope. Change. Truthiness.

He’s been hinting at it for a few days on The Colbert Report but now Stephen Colbert is closer to entering the race to become the not-Mitt Romney everyone should vote for in the Republican primary. The decision came after a recent poll placed him ahead of Jon Huntsman in his home state of South Carolina. To date, Republicans have not won the presidency without first winning South Carolina.

After going home and discussing it with his money, Colbert came back to his show last night to take his first steps toward the White House. Campaigners are not allowed to run political action committees, so he had good buddy Jon Stewart drop by to legally sign as sole owner of Colbert’s super pac. Under Stewart’s control, it will be renamed the Definitely Not Coordinated with Stephen Colbert Super Pac.

Of course, if he does enter the race (again), they’ll probably pull him from the ballot (again). But how great would it be to have Colbert in the White House? He’d give his staff the best nicknames and bears would be nuked to extinction.

Over the years, South Park has had enough musical guest stars to make Coachella queef. And those musicians the show either couldn’t get or had no interest in paying were simply imitated… usually poorly. The results, though, were always hilarious and always memorable.

So take a look at the musical guests of South Park, and let us know who you think got sh*t on the worst. And if we left anyone out, tell us in the comment section.

Yes, "Jew" is one of the classes in the game.

Comedy Central’s hit show South Park has inspired all kinds of merchandise, from T-shirts to actual Cheesy Poofs to South Park Airlines, which provides direct flights from Atlanta to Denver on planes painted to look like various South Park characters and flight attendants dressed as Chef. Now, there’s going to be an RPG (or “role-playing game”) based on the show which is sure to either be mocked or completely ignored on South Park.

Players are categorized by five unique classes: “Fighter, mage, thief, cleric and Jew.” Yes, “Jew” is one of the classes in the game. And as you can see from the picture, it looks like the people at Obsidian Entertainment have nailed the visual style of the show in addition to the sense of humor. So, if you’re into RPGs, and you like South Park, start stocking up on bandwidth and Doritos now.

You might not recognize the name, but the face has been present for several celebrity roasts and cameos over the past 3-4 years, and if you listened to Opie and Anthony, then the voice is probably pretty familiar too. He was 41 years old when he died.

In October, O’Neal suffered a large stroke that left him unable to speak, and he never fully recovered. Despite having been a working comic for almost 20 years, it seems as though O’Neal’s star was just beginnign to rise, as he scored his first TV comedy special last February for Comedy Central.

Fellow comedian Doug Benson, upon hearing the news proclaimed, “A sad day for comedians and comedy in general.” For those unfamiliar with O’Neal’s work, here’s a clip from the aforementioned stand-up special on Comedy Central.

This could be the commercially accessible "edginess" NBC needs to turn things around. Just kidding.

Sarah Silverman and her brand of baby-talk profanity have been recruited by NBC to star in a pilot for next fall. Should the show get picked up, it would most likely be added to a lineup that would include shows from Whitney Cummings and Chelsea Handler.

Readers, say hello to “Sort-Of Attractive and Not-Really-That-Funny Wednesdays.” This fall, on NBC! * xylophone chimes*

One saving grace for the show is that it’s a pet project of Ron Howard, who gave us Arrested Development and, therefore, is a more important American than Abraham Lincoln. The (sort of) logline is (from Deadline):

“Loosely based on Silverman’s life, the untitled single-camera comedy stars the comedian as a woman readjusting to the single life after a decade-long live-in relationship. Silverman wrote the script with Dan Sterling and Jon Schroeder, who were writer-producers on her self-titled Comedy Central series.”

Well, I wasn’t the hugest fan of her CC show, but I fear that when here profane charm is ground down by the network so as not to offend anyone, the results will be less than stellar.

Still, it’s gotta be better than Mike and Mindy or whatever the hell that other show is called.

I heard in two years they were thinking about doing an Elian Gonzalez episode. Is nothing sacred with these guys?

Good news in the sleepy mountain town of South Park – Comedy Central announced today that it will be picking up the Trey Parker and Matt Stone‘s sick creation for another three seasons, which locks it down through its 20th season in 2016. Even if we’re all going to be dead by then, it’s nice to know that the groundbreaking show will live on, making fun of hybrid vehicles and natural disasters long after we’re gone.

This should quash rumors (often propagated by Stone and Parker themselves) that they were getting sick of the series and their attention was turning to other projects, like their The Book of Mormon musical and maybe some sort of strange continuation of That’s My Bush! I wonder what changed their mind. Maybe it was the dumptrucks of money that Comedy Central drove up to their houses. Or the siren call of art.

But probably the cash.

It's a good thing he can't feel any pain.

Amy Schumer sparked controversy with her Ryan Dunn joke on last night’s airing of The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen. She addressed Dunn’s fellow stuntman and friend Steve O saying, “When Ryan Dunn died Steve-O probably was thinking it could’ve been him, with the rest of the world wondering why it wasn’t.”

Really? That started controversy? It wasn’t directed at Dunn and it wasn’t particularly that harsh. In fact, I made a similiar joke when I wrote Dunn’s obituary. Also, it’s a roast. That’s the point. It’s supposed to be gloves-off pot shots. If we were interested in watching famous people fart out watered-down yuck-yucks, we’d have watched Two and a Half Men instead.

Point being, the joke wasn’t over the line. It was more observational than it was malicious as it was the common reaction to the news of Dunn’s passing. Here are nine jokes that were much more harsh from The Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen.

“You’re just like Bruce Willis — you were big in the 80s and now your old slot is being filled by Ashton Kutcher.” — Amy Schumer

“The only reason you got on TV in the first place is because God hates Michael J. Fox.” — Anthony Jeselnik

“Brooke Mueller is not very bright unless Charlie throws a lamp at her. … Mike Tyson, your opponents spent more time bleeding in the corner than Charlie’s ex wives.” — Jeffrey Ross

“Charlie, you claim to have ‘tiger blood,’ but after all the porn stars you’ve [had sex with], it’s probably Tiger Woods’ blood.” — Seth MacFarlane

“If you’re winning, this must not be a child custody hearing. The only time your kids get to see you is in reruns — don’t you want to live to see their first 12 steps?” — Jeffrey Ross

“Charlie still hasn’t hit rock bottom. He’s looking forward to it though, because he thinks there’s a rock there.” — Steve O

“Charlie Sheen is still alive! Charlie, you were amazing in Platoon. Your marriage to Denise [Richards] was kind of like her Vietnam because she was constantly afraid of being killed by Charlie … There’s no denying how famous you are. It was international news when you ruined the lives of those two girls living with you—you know, your daughters.” – Amy Schumer

“Mike Tyson, your opponents spent less time bleeding in the corner than Charlie’s ex-wives.” — Jeffrey Ross

“Charlie Sheen called his boss on Two and a Half Men a ‘Jew ki**’ and expected to go back to work. That’s crazy. If you could do that and keep your job, then everybody would do it.” — Anthony Jeselnik

The story follows the adventures of a group of dysfunctional national park forest rangers. No word on which character Tosh will play, but I can see him as a dysfunctional park ranger or a mischief-making talking bear.

Jame and I attende South Park Town Square this afternoon, and took a bunch of pics of our trip. To celebrate the year of the fan for the long-running show, Comedy Central put together a replica of the tiny town of South Park, CO. As you can see, most of the familiar inhabitants were meandering about. I replaced Kyle in the picture with the kids on the couch, as I didn’t feel it needed two Jews in it. Then Jame mocked me by placing Kyle on his lap. A parade with a Chinese dragon Cartman kicked off the events befor the town was flooded with Comic-Con attendees.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone have signed on for two more seasons.

Many took the depressing end of South Park’s most recent episode “You’re Getting Old” to mean that Trey Parker and Matt Stone were done with the series and would find a new way to piss off Muslim extremists and Sean Penn. However, that’s not the case. The creators have just signed on to remain with the series through 2013.

However, there’s no word whether “You’re Getting Old” will set a new tone for the series going forward. It can be interpreted that Parker and Stone have grown wary of cynicism and will move the show in a less snarky direction. Or it could be that the episode was a one-off designed to spark debate. Either way, I’m sure that Adam Sandler movies will still look like shit.

South Park will return on October 5th with all new episodes. (Entertainment Weekly)

Lisa Lampenelli should be advised to save the date of September 10th to insult the shit out of Charlie Sheen. Comedy Central has announced that Sheen will be made the subject of fun for their next celebrity roast.

Comedy Central has secured one of Hollywood’s most notorious bad boys. The network announced today that Charlie Sheen will be the next Roastee. The “COMEDY CENTRAL Roast Of Charlie Sheen” (#SheenRoast) will tape in Los Angeles on Saturday, September 10. The Roast will premiere on COMEDY CENTRAL on Monday, September 19 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

“You could say I’ve been providing kindling for this Roast for a while,” said Sheen. “It’s time to light it up. It’s going to be epic.”

I really hope that there are no hard feelings between Comedy Central and Norm MacDonald and he’s invited to roast.

Watch out, cast of Jersey Shore. People are soon going to be laughing at you. Comedy Central has awarded Nick Kroll his own sketch series. Titled The Nick Show Kroll, the series will feature Kroll’s popular characters like the craft services coordinator to the stars, Fabrice Fabrice, and the fist-pumping, mother-respecting Bobby Bottleservice. Newer characters will be featured as well, such as the spoiled Hollywood royalty portrayed by he and Jon Daly in Rich Dicks.

Based off Kroll’s track record and talent, this is a good sign for comedy. The man made ABC’s Cavemen watchable. CAVEMEN!

Ving Rhames is slowly becoming the new Billy Dee Williams. He’s just booked the Comedy Central pilot, “Black Jack.” Directed by Your Highness and Pineapple Express director David Gordon Green, the show stars Rhames as Black Jack, the ass-kickingest special ops agent ever who is forced into retirement and must adjust to normal life.

So, kind of like “Burn Notice” without Johnny Sunglasses smirking at the camera every four minutes. At least, I think that’s what “Burn Notice” is about. I know that stuff gets blown up a lot, so yeah, I’ll generalize. Or logic for that matter. The 26-episode re-up is actually two seasons, but CC must get off on being withholding, as they’re only giving Groening and crew license to say one season. Bastards.

Since its return two years ago, “Futurama” has put up some solid numbers, and its rabid following has also grown thanks to social media campaigns. While the “Futurama” movies had been released to mixed reviews prior to its TV return, the show seems to have been able to recreate it magic of old via the episodic format.

Citing a desire to create “cross-platform synergies” throughout its programming schedule, the renewal is predicated on the addition of a character named “Daniel Tosh” who, in successive 30-second bumpers before and after commercial breaks, will sit the cartoon down and quickly rehash some of the week’s best viral videos.

Nothing in that last paragraph is at all true, but it seemed unsettlingly believable, didn’t it? Watch your backs, viewers. (Deadline)

The pilot, "Black Jack," concerns a retired special ops agent, and has nothing whatsoever to do with Jack Black.

Although his last two directorial efforts, Pineapple Express and the upcoming Your Highness are both largely stoner movies, David Gordon Green‘s new project seems to be a different kind of high concept. “Black Jack,” which is being heavily considered for a pilot pickup, is a half hour comedy that concerns a special ops agent. It ain’t “Archer,” but it sounds promising:

Black Jack, written by Michael Starrbury, centers on Black Jack who, after 20 years as the mos kick-ass special ops agent the US government has had on its payroll, finally goes too far and is de-commissioned. He’s sent home to begin the most treacherous mission he’s ever faced — normal life.

Sounds interesting enough, although the pilot order seems contingent on finding the right actor to play the lead. It might be a little on the nose, but I think Liam Neeson would absolutely murder that role, along with anyone else that crossed him. (Deadline)

So as long as they're roasting anyone, friend or foe, here are nine celebrities that deserve to be roasted.

<a href="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/trump-roast.jpg”>

Traditionally, at least at the Friars’ Club Roasts, the motto has always been “We only roast the ones we love,” meaning that while the jokes could often be harsh, at the end of the day, the roastee knew he was among friends. But since Comedy Central branched off to do their own roasts in 2003, the idea of only roasting a friend seems to have fallen by the wayside. Nowhere is this more apparent than with the latest victim, Donald Trump. Does anyone really believe that most of that crowd had respect for “The Donald?” Even roast regular, Lisa Lampanelli, admitted, “I broke the (roast) rule because the money’s really good.”

So as long as we’re open to roasting anyone, friend or foe, here are nine celebrities that deserve to be roasted.

Jay Leno

No matter what you personally think of Leno’s comedy, it’s no secret that he isn’t well respected by many of his fellow comedians. Imagine letting them all loose on him at the same time. Recently, he was semi-roasted at Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Awards, so maybe, he’d be up for it. If so, hopefully the ghosts of Johnny Carson and Bill Hicks will be able to make an appearance.

Roger Ebert

I like Rogert Ebert, but there’s no getting around the fact that he has made a career off of ripping apart people’s films. Imagine a room full of jilted actors and directors waiting to take their revenge. The fact that Ebert no longer has a lower jaw would certainly add an uncomfortable element. These roasts are known for their harshness, but it would take some pretty big balls to make fun of a man who is missing half his face.

Oprah

Speaking of Ebert, let’s move on to his former girlfriend, Oprah. Well, girlfriend is a little strong, since they only went on a few dates. But at any rate, when it comes to egos, they don’t get much bigger than Oprah’s. And when it comes to targets, they don’t get much bigger than Oprah. No, that wasn’t a weight joke, although I’m sure there would be plenty of those, not to mention jokes about Stedman, rumored lesbianism, the throngs of stupid housewives who worship her, etc.

George Lucas

George Lucas lives in a bubble. Sure, it has a fancy name (Skywalker Ranch), but it’s a fantasy world in which he is king, and every idea he has is pure gold. As such, he’s blissfully unaware that his last three movies were horseshit. With the money they brought it, I can’t say that I blame him being delusional. Even so, imagine how much fun it would be to get a group of angry fan boys together for a Lucas roast. I’m sure Jake Lloyd and the guy who voiced Jar Jar might want to vent, as well.

Sean Penn

Maybe I’m wrong, but Sean Penn often comes across as a self-important asshole. When he was spoofed in the film, Team America: World Police, he wrote an angry letter in response rather than laughing it off or simply ignoring it. That’s why I’d love to see him in a roast. It’s always funnier when the targets take themselves seriously. Besides, it would take some real balls to get up on stage and mock Penn to his face, because there’s a very real possibility he would snap and beat the shit out of you.

Mel Gibson

In Hollywood, there’s probably no one more hated than Mel Gibson. That alone makes him the perfect target for a roast. Every Jewish comedian in the industry would be lining up to take shots at him, and given what we know about Mel, his rebuttal would probably be pretty colorful (i.e. offensive and insane).

Harvey Weinstein

As a producer, Harvey Weinstein has made some big films. He’s also made some big enemies. After all, to paraphrase”The Simpsons,” you don’t become a millionaire by writing a lot of checks. It’s a producers job to screw people out of money, but when you’ve got a commie like Michael Moore taking you to court over millions of dollars, chances are you’re taking it too far. A roast where the entertainment industry was allowed to vent would be highly entertaining.

Richard Simmons

Richard Simmons has been the butt of jokes for years, especially when appearing on David Letterman. But “The Late Show” looks like an episode of “Veggie Tales” when compared to a Comedy Central roast. Odds are 2:1 that Simmons would end up crying. I’d watch that.

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks is widely considered the nicest guy in Hollywood. That’s why it would be so funny to see Jeff Ross and Lisa Lampanelli taking the piss out of him. And it would be just as funny to see Tom Hanks making jokes about Lisa Lampanelli’s giant vagina.

Paul F. Tompkins as a wisecracking villain? This stuff writes itself.

Comedian Paul F. Tompkins will develop a scripted comedy series with writer and radio host/comedian Tom Scharpling (Monk, The Best Show On WFMU) called “Evil Genius.” Comedy Central has put the project in development, and despite a very high concept, it seems promising. Tompkins would play the titular evil genius, Tiberious Lynch, who, after a successful world takeover, is left without much to do.What’s the life of an evil genius like when he’s already dominated the planet? I guess we’re going to find out.

The premise sounds a bit familiar, but with rare comedic talents like Tompkins and Scharpling, the results should be different from whatever we’ve come to expect from this recent archetype. Mining comedy from an evil genius isn’t brand new, but was explored in last year’s animated Megamind. Here’s hoping that an innovative and hilarious comedian like Tompkins has a fun and unique spin on it. I’m sure he will.
Norm MacDonald is going back behind the desk for a comedic half hour take on the world of sports in Comedy Central's "The Sports Show With Norm MacDonald."

Yes, you read that right. Former SNL cast member, weekend update anchor, Dirty Work star, and sitcom actor Norm MacDonald is going back behind the desk for a comedic half hour take on the world of sports in Comedy Central‘s “The Sports Show With Norm MacDonald.”

The show has been picked up for an eight episode run, and is slated to start airing in April. Norm junkies won’t have to wait that long to see him back in action, though. The comic’s hour long stand up special airs on Comedy Central March 12th. This is great news for fans of the comedian wishing he’d return to the spotlight. MacDonald has kept a relatively low profile in the last few years, popping up on talk shows and in roasts here and there, and launching short lived sitcoms. This show seems far more in line with his sensibilities. Let’s just hope there’s room for crack whore jokes on a show about sports.
National productivity: your days are numbered.

National productivity: your days are numbered. That’s because Viacom, the media giant behind channels like MTV and Comedy Central, finally reached an agreement with Hulu to get their shows back on Hulu’s internet webhome. Now America can comfortably ignore its stupid bosses and their requests to do actual “work, knowing that streaming versions of “The Colbert Report,” ”The Daily Show,” “Jersey Shore” and “Tosh.0” are all on the same site, easily accessible from a cubicle computer. So now you can watch internet videos, then watch the internet video version of”Tosh.0” comment on those other videos, and soon your computer becomes a Cookie Monster-esque monster that tries to devour itself.

A disagreement between the two parties over — what else? — money, money, money saw Viacom yank its programs off Hulu. Now they’re all back, including backlogs of “Beavis & Butthead” and “Chappelle Show,” if you opt for Hulu’s shitty subscription thing. Of course, many of Viacom’s shows were already available for streaming on stand-alone sites, but let’s face it: if the latest “Colbert” and re-runs of USA‘s “Weird Science” aren’t on the same website, then what good is either show? (Hollywood Reporter)

According to Katie Segal (Leela), Comedy Central is funding the continued adventures of Fry, Leela, Bender and Earth's most unqualified crab-man doctor for another season.

The Harlem Globetrotters are solving celebratory math equations tonight, in honor of the much deserved eighth season pick-up of “Futurama“ from Comedy Central. The “Futurama” relaunch got off to a rocky start with the black holes that were the DVD movies, but the 6th season scored strong ratings and just got better and better. Now I’m a full supporter of proposition infinity, and I wonder if any of those crazy Japanese robots that pop up on the YouTube are currently on OkCupid.

According to a recent interview with actor Katie Segal (Leela), Comedy Central is funding the continued adventures of Fry, Leela, Bender and Earth’s most unqualified crab-man doctor for another season. The 13 episodes of season seven begin airing this summer, but Comedy Central’s not waiting for those episodes’ reception before green-lighting more. Awesome. It’s time to do a very impressive limbo dance.

Nice going, Comedy Central. This almost makes up for Krod Mandoon. Almost. (Vulture via AICN)

When Suzanne Sena appears on the first episode of “Onion News Network” tomorrow evening, she’ll be playing a delicately-crafted caricature of herself. Sena, a former Fox News anchor and longtime entertainment reporter, has been in the television news game for years. Hopefully the experience has given her the inspiration necessary to lampoon the hell out of the entire industry in typical Onion fashion.

A word from Suzanne: “World domination I think is the goal for The Onion and we’re getting there.”
