Knives are good and all, but it's important to branch out every once in a while.

Season six of Dexter ended last night with another ritualistic killing long in the making, thus ending the reign of the Doomsday Killer. I’ll never look at the Book of Revelations the same way again.

While this season did serve up some awesome gore, it certainly has some tough competition in the murder department. Over the years, some of the gnarliest deaths on television have happened on Dexter. Here’s a rundown of the killer of killers‘ best kills. Hopefully, it will hold you over until next season.

Nathan Marten – “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” Season Three

The code that Dexter lives by only allows him to kill fellow killers, but if his kids are involved, it’s personal. When a convicted sex offender takes an interest in his girlfriend’s daughter, Dexter pays him a visit. That visit ends with Dexter strangling him. While disposing of the body, he remembers he was supposed to pick up milk, so he retrieves it from the sex offender’s fridge. Ever the provider.

Cole Harmon – “Take It” Season Five

Cole Harmon was serving as the muscle in a ring of rapists and murderers, so Dexter needed to take him out before he could get to the crew’s ringleader, Jordan Chase. This was no small task, as Cole was as high-profile as he was twisted and evil. He was even able to smash through doors like Michael Myers. Dexter needed a little help with this one and recruited Lumen, Harmon’s only victim to have ever escaped. Putting a knife into the heart of her torturer proved to be a turn-on as it lead her directly into Dexter’s arms. That’s definitely a chapter that Neil Strauss didn’t cover in The Game.

Mike Donovan – “Dexter” Season One

Dexter’s first on-screen kill introduced us to his hobby with one small exception. His normal M.O. is to subdue and drug his victims. Then they wake to find they have been strapped to a table in a kill room tailored to their particular crimes. Dexter then makes them face photos of their victims, before he shames them and takes a drop of blood from their cheek. He then plunges a knife into their chest.

I guess his printer was broken this time around because in the case of the child-murderer choir master, he actually dug up the remains of the victims to hold before him, stating, “It took me a long time to get these little boys clean.”

Ummm… welcome to television. Let me just set a TiVo alert.

Chelsea Clinton somehow got hired as a reporter. An on-camera reporter.

Earlier today, Chelsea Clinton proved what having friends in high places can do for your career when it was announced that she’s joining NBC‘s Nightly News as a “special correspondent,” which is a nice way of saying “related to a former president correspondent.”

Nepotism has long been the way in the business of show. Children of actors and other famous people often get first crack at auditions, or get walked into a role with the backing of their parents or famous friends of the family. In fact, you’d be surprised at the number of today’s stars that come from show business families. Not Channing Tatum though. I’m really not sure how he broke through the hard way.

Gwyneth Paltrow

The daughter of director Bruce Paltrow and actress Blythe Danner, Gwyneth originally studied Art History at the University of California. She then realized, “Hey, what the f*ck am I doing?” and dropped out. She was then cast in her first notable role in Hook. Ah, the ol’ dropping out of college and immediately being discovered by Spielberg. It’s a story as old as time itself.

Sofia Coppola

At first, Sofia Coppola came off as the lucky benefactor of nepotism when her famous father cast her in a lead role in The Godfather III. However, her performance sucked worse than terrible, which caused a lot of backlash from critics and audiences. She then refocused her efforts behind the camera to become one of the more noteworthy arthouse directors working today. Her films are so well-received that she may have even broken through without the family backing.

Colin Hanks

Colin Hanks got his first taste of Hollywood when he was cast as a page in the Tom Hanks-directed That Thing You Do! Being that close to and seeing the success of fellow celebrity kid Liv Tyler must have inspired him, as he’s worked pretty consistently since college. He can currently be seen doing creepy religious stuff on the current season of Dexter.

Damn you, Dexter. You've pulled me back in.

This behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming season of <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/Dexter-season-five-killer-details/” target=”_blank”>Dexter gives us a preview of who the players will be. We’ve got Edward James Olmos and Colin Hanks as a creepy religion professor and his creepier disciple. It’s not clear what their plans are but we can see that it involves big knives and the name of God. That’s a bad combo. Also, joining this season is Mos (formerly Mos Def) as Brother Sam. At first he’ Dexter‘s target before a common interest reveals itself. Miami Metro is bringing in a moody new detective played by Billy Brown. He’s a no-nonsense Chicago native who sees working homicide as a business and doesn’t have time for department hijinks or detectives dressing like members of Smashmouth. Boy, he picked the wrong town.

And then there’s Aimee Garcia, who plays Batista’s hot sister and new nanny to Harrison. More importantly, she can be seen in a scene with Deb saying, “I came in here to give you a kiss goodnight. Not to look at pictures of dead bodies.” A) Fire that nanny. B) Is Deb in a same-sex relationship this season? Or perhaps a polyamorous couple?? I can so see Quinn being into that.

The new season of Dexter premieres October 2nd on Showtime.

Dexter finds God... and a new showrunner.

So far the looks we’ve had at <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/Dexter-going-back-to-the-basics/” target=”_blank”>Dexter‘s sixth season have been a promising relief compared to last season’s meh-ness. The trailer was pretty awesome and who doesn’t love Edward James Olmos?

Today we have a behind-the-scenes look at the upcoming season in advance of the October 2nd premiere. Looks like business as usual at Miami Metro – a dead body ends up on the beach and that somehow lead Dexter to a coalition of killers. But this time they’re murdering in the name of God, not in the name of “Hey, this will feel cool.”

The cast and crew are promising this will be the biggest and weirdest season yet, with the previously established rules poked right in the eye. Does that mean that the Batista and LaGuerta storyline will suddenly make sense and be interesting? I’m not ready for that.

Colin Hanks has now won both the genetic lottery and the money one. As this trailer for Lucky shows Hanks plays a guy who wins the hand of the girl of his dreams after coming into serious dough. And, oh yeah, he’s also a murderer who targets pretty, young, blonde women. Hey! Stop killing all the pretty, young, blonde women Colin Hanks!! We need those!!! Guess he’s just practicing for <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/colin-hanks-to-take-on-Dexter-and-probably-be-killed-this-season/” target=”_blank”"Dexter.”

Poor Tom and Rita. One son prides himself a white rapper. The other is a murderer. It must be almost hard to choose a favorite.

He'll be the Hanks son with the non-embarrassing connection to the music industry.

You wanna give some of your money to Colin Hanks? Didn’t think so. What if I said it was for an interesting project that has been a passion of his for years? Still no? OK. I’m not gonna press the issue.

Hanks is crowdsourcing to raise $50k to tell the story of Tower Records, the formerly ubiquitous music retailer that has had not only its legs kicked out, but its heart brutally removed by the advent of both digital music files and piracy. The project is dramatically titled All Things Must Pass: The Rise and Fall of Tower Records. Why he wants to tell the story of Tower specifically and not one of the myriad independent outlets with more character is, frankly none of your business. He wants to talk about Tower, and he’s going to use your money to do it.

While it can be safely assumed that Hanks doesn’t need your $50k to get the movie produced (he could just run out to his sixth Mercedes and get it out of the glovebox), it’s admirable that he’s leaving himself to his own devices to pursue a passion. While his brother Chet is also pursuing a passion on his own, it’s safe to say that no one in their right mind would use the adjective “admirable” to describe that endeavor.

<a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/Dexter-going-back-to-the-basics/” target=”_blank”>Season six of”Dexter“ was beginning to seem like kind of a sausage fest, what with guest stars like Edward James Olmos, Colin Hanks, and Mos Def making their way to the serial killer dramedy. Now it turns out that there is going to be a lady after all: Brea Grant, best known for her roles in Halloween II and “Heroes.” The announcement came from Grant’s website, like so:

“no spoilers but i’m pretty sure you’ll be seeing me in a white lab coat.”

Ooooh, a white lab coat! I wonder if this means she’ll be playing a sexy owner of a white lab coat store. I guess I’ll have to wait until the new season of “Dexter” premieres on Showtime in the fall.

7 photosYvonne Strahovski

Colin Hanks deserves some good luck in this business. And it looks like he’s finally gotten some: He’s landed a part in My Mother’s Curse, starring Seth Rogen and Barbara Streisand. Here’s a plot synopsis, which is unfortunately devoid of mummies. Think about it – “curse,” “mother” “mummy.” They could have done something with that:

“Hanks will play the husband to the already cast Yvonne Strahovski, Rogen’ high school sweetheart in the pic to whom he once proposed to. Hanks and Strahovski let Rogen and Streisand crash in their house after the son and mother get caught in a blizzard.”

It’s Friday afternoon and I’m tired, so my eyes keeping crossing when I try to read that plot synopsis. I’m sure it’ll be just the kind of charming and likeable part to make Colin Hanks a household name. I’m pulling for you, Colin Hanks. (The Hollywood Reporter)

I have always viewed Colins Hanks as more of a "murder victim" than "murder committer." Maybe he charms his victims to death.

UPDATE: Showtime has announced that Hanks will play Travis, a highly intelligent expert on ancient artifacts who gets linked to a series of grisly murders in Miami. Will Dexter discover it was in fact The Relic?

Colin Hanks has kissed a lot of frogs and still not yet found that prince. Off the heels of the cancelled “The Good Guys,” it is being reported by TV Line that the Hanks son without a hilarious rap career will be Michael C. Scott’s foil in the upcoming season of”Dexter.”

As with past seasons, Showtime will divulge little information about Dexter‘s nemesis. I can’t say that Colin Hanks is a PARTICULARLY intimidating fella, so perhaps the threat he poses to Dexter will be in a more administrative or bureaucratic capacity? Maybe he threatens to tell on Dexter for some shoddy accounting work come tax time? I just see Colin as playing something of a dorky pest, rather than a rival serial killer.

According to Showtime president David Nevins, next season Dexter’s nemesis won’t be one particular character, but something of a group of characters, possibly reminiscent of “The Wire.” If that’s the case, I like Hanks as the lawyer or the accountant. Or possibly the male nanny.

It's 4/20, so of course a trailer centering around the sweet sticky-icky has dropped. Stoner comedy HIGH School follows a valedictorian who, out of fear of losing his college scholarship, begrudgingly teams up with a charismatic pothead to do the only thing they can think of to neutralize the threat—get the entire student body stoned. If you can't tell by the above screen shot, Adrien Brody plays the drug dealer with a penchant for stink eyes, and Matt Bush, the kid from those "don't throw your f*ckin' minutes away!" AT&T commercials, plays Henry Burke, the student. Michael Chiklis dons a full head of whispy hair as the smarmy principal who institutes a zero-tolerance policy at the school and wants Henry's head on a pike. Those crazy kids at this past Sundance loved the film, but I heard that crowd only smokes kind buds, so your experience may differ depending on your allowance. Check out the... Oh man. **Giggles uncontrollably** I know I put something after the jump.
