Cobie Smulders 1st Choice To Play Nick Fury’s Secretary

A few days ago it was revealed that in Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers, Nick Fury (as played by Samuel L. Jackson) would have a sexy lady sidekick who could take his dictation and do other secretarial duties. Well, now we know both the name of the character, and who’s in the lead to play her: SHIELD agent Maria Hill, and “How I Met Your Mother“‘s Cobie Smulders. I hadn’t even heard of this character before, so I did what all intrepid journalists do: I looked her up on Wikipedia. Here’s a bit of bio from same:

Born in Chicago to a father who never failed to make his resentment of her survival and her mother’s death in childbirth clear to her, upon reaching adulthood Hill first joins the United States armed forces, and later becomes an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Hill has a brief stint in Madripoor that gets her noticed by various heads of state and government around the world.

Hmmm…maybe I was too hasty in assuming this character would be Nick Fury’s secretary. Maybe in 2011, women can kick ass just as well as men–hey, I wonder if Smulder has any nude pics online. (CinemaBlend)

Jackson Reveals ‘Nick Fury’ Sidekick Info: It’s A Lady!

Samuel L. Jackson, who appeared as Nick Fury after the credits of Iron Man, and somewhere in the murky, sequel-y depths of Iron Man 2, is finally getting his own shot at the spotlight in The Avengers, but he’ll be sharing it with a hot brunette sidekick. Jackson told Jimmy Fallon last night, “I gotta screen test like five actresses on Friday. They have this new character that’s my sidekick or something, that’s with me all the time.” So far we know that several actresses, from Scott Pilgrim’s Mary Elizabeth Winstead to Cobie Smulders from “How I Met Your Mother” are being considered for the role, along with several other equally beautiful but less noteworthy brunettes. The Avengers begins filming in April, with an intended release date of May 4, 2012. (The Playlist)

In an effort to avoid penning a 700-page dissertation on the specific facets of Cobie Smulders’ infinite hotness, we’ll sum it up like this: Oh my god. Best known as that dorky Canadian newscaster chick from the CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother,” Smulders is set to grace the cover of the December issue of Maxim. And based on a set of prints leaked from the shoot, it looks like that particular issue is going to fly off the rack faster than most. If you want a copy, they’ll all be here at the Screenjunkies office. But you’ll have to fight us with katana swords to get one. We’ve been practicing.
