As you can see from the trailer, the pair are played by Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman, and from all the explosions you’d almost think this was a big-screen movie rather than an HBO one. It’s even got a major Hollywood director behind the camera: Phillip Kaufmann, so this looks like something worth checking out.

It’s not totally unheard of for big movie stars to do commercials overseas, usually on the condition that they never be seen in the United States (hello, Internet). Still, this seems like a step down for Clive Owen, who nevertheless has a big slate of films coming up for 2012. Hopefully things will look up for the guy – I’d hate to run into him at Burger King, that would be really uncomfortable for everyone. (The Playlist)

If Owen accepts, he’ll be playing the part of the bad guy who will be butting heads against Josh Brolin. And if you’ve seen the original movie, you probably agree that Owen would make a good fit for the upper-class villain of the piece (the role was first offered to Colin Firth, who turned it down). Another role has also been offered to Mia Wasikowska that was turned down by Rooney Mara. Maybe a good alternative title for the American version of Oldboy could be Sloppy Seconds. (The Playlist)

The assumption here is that the hauntings are happening during the same timeline, but to total strangers in completely different parts of the world. That’s different enough to grab my attention. These ghosts are getting smarter and smarter everyday. If only Zelda Rubenstein were around to explain all of this to us.

And they aren’t really missed. True to the title, the aforementioned three appear to be elite killers, beating each other up while strapped to chairs, strapped in by a seat belt, or, in De Niro’s case, just really, really old. Lest one think this is ridiculous, nonsensical action fare, the trailer informs that the film is based on a true story, which seems very improbable. But Hollywood doesn’t lie, so I’ll be heading to my local library to learn more about this menage a trois of ass-kicking.

In summary, most of this trailer is set to Scorpions’ “Rock You Like a Hurricane.” That’s really all the information you need. This article could have been a lot shorter.

Owen has attached himself to the circulatory system of Roger Donaldson’s Cities. The film will examine the economic downturn from a few different, interlinking vantage points. One will have Owen as a New York hedge fund manager who parties away our retirement funds. Amil Kapoor also stars as a Mumbai cop suspected of corruption. Personally, after having lost my job in the downturn, I’m not too interested in reliving those days through film. Let’s watch something else. I hear that Insidious is good. (THR)

As this teaser of the Juan Carlos Fresnadillo film Intruders demonstrates, Owen once again plays a concerned dad. But the terror this time around is more of the supernatural variety and not of the sporting a six-pack of Zima variety. It turns out that the girl’s childhood monsters are actually real, and man oh man, do they love loud noises. How’s Clive Owen going to get out of this one? (Empire)

Gillian Anderson, Andrea Riseborough, and Aiden Gillen have been cast, with Riseborough playing the female lead, though in what capacity that may be is unspecified. The movie is set to start shooting this May in Dublin. Yes, yes, very good. Owen’s British, so that works out well for him in terms of a commute.

Given this source material, it’s pretty clear that Owen will be able to play a morally ambiguous, rough-around-the-edges hero, so this role should fit him like a Snuggie just out of the dryer. (Vulture)

David Schwimmer has taken his message behind enemy lines by posting the trailer for David Schwimmer‘s Trust: Based On the Play "Trust" By David Schwimmer online. Sadly, since returning to investigate the debris of his dead planet many light years away, Chris Hansen isn’t available to save our daughters from the clutches of sexual predators. Clive Owen stars as the dad in this cautionary tale about the dangers of letting your child chat with strangers online, and he should really step up his parenting a bit. You never know when your daughter’s AOL Buddy might turn out to be a wolf in dog-wearing-sunglasses clothing.
