Ernest Hemingway was known for his larger-than-life antics like wrestling bears, hunting rhinos, and shooting himself in the face, so it figures the quality-peddlers at HBO would eventually make a movie about him. It’s not just about him, though – the title is Hemingway & Gellhorn, and it depicts Hemingway’s relationship with fellow writer Martha Gellhorn.

As you can see from the trailer, the pair are played by Clive Owen and Nicole Kidman, and from all the explosions you’d almost think this was a big-screen movie rather than an HBO one. It’s even got a major Hollywood director behind the camera: Phillip Kaufmann, so this looks like something worth checking out.

Happy New Year!

From the “Why Not Post This” Dept. comes this video for Burger King starring (apparently former) movie star Clive Owen. I don’t remember much from high school Spanish, but the video features a dapper Owen walking through various luxurious locations while, and again, I’m rusty, but I think he’s saying “Hello, I’m Clive Owen. Have you been to one of those Burger King places? They’re OK.”

It’s not totally unheard of for big movie stars to do commercials overseas, usually on the condition that they never be seen in the United States (hello, Internet). Still, this seems like a step down for Clive Owen, who nevertheless has a big slate of films coming up for 2012. Hopefully things will look up for the guy – I’d hate to run into him at Burger King, that would be really uncomfortable for everyone.
No word yet on who will be playing the octopus.

Clive Owen is one of those actors who excels at both slimy bastards and sympathetic heroes. And he did a little bit of both simultaneously in Spike Lee‘s Inside Man, so it’s not a huge surprise that he’s reportedly been offered the role of the villain in Lee’s remake of the cult Korean thriller Oldboy. But the remake is supposed to feature new characters and somehow be darker than the original (perhaps the producers mean this literally, as in the movie will be lit by candlelight).

If Owen accepts, he’ll be playing the part of the bad guy who will be butting heads against Josh Brolin. And if you’ve seen the original movie, you probably agree that Owen would make a good fit for the upper-class villain of the piece (the role was first offered to Colin Firth, who turned it down). Another role has also been offered to Mia Wasikowska that was turned down by Rooney Mara. Maybe a good alternative title for the American version of Oldboy could be Sloppy Seconds. (The Playlist)

Clive ain't 'fraid of no ghost.

Clive Owen has got a unique ghost problem on his hands. At first glance, Intruders looks like the average “child is haunted” entrie into the horror genre. However, as this trailer illustrates, there is an interesting twist. This time around, the supernatural being is actually haunting TWO children…on different continents.

The assumption here is that the hauntings are happening during the same timeline, but to total strangers in completely different parts of the world. That’s different enough to grab my attention. These ghosts are getting smarter and smarter everyday. If only Zelda Rubenstein were around to explain all of this to us.

It's "Owen and Statham vs. De Niro," or "Owen and De Niro vs. Statham," or something.

The trailer for Killer Elite doesn’t offer much in the way of plot. All the viewer really needs to know is that, for reasons you needn’t worry your pretty little head about, people are just beating the shit out of each other. Clive Owen, Robert De Niro, and Jason Statham all take turns dishing out heaping portions of pain. Initially, Owen forces Statham to rescue his friend and mentor, Robert De Niro. After that nugget of info about 15 seconds into the trailer, they stop with the plot revelations altogether.

And they aren’t really missed. True to the title, the aforementioned three appear to be elite killers, beating each other up while strapped to chairs, strapped in by a seat belt, or, in De Niro’s case, just really, really old. Lest one think this is ridiculous, nonsensical action fare, the trailer informs that the film is based on a true story, which seems very improbable. But Hollywood doesn’t lie, so I’ll be heading to my local library to learn more about this menage a trois of ass-kicking.

In summary, most of this trailer is set to Scorpions’ “Rock You Like a Hurricane.” That’s really all the information you need. This article could have been a lot shorter.

I'd be pissed about it too if he weren't so smooth and British all of the time.

It’s good to see some good luck coming Clive Owen‘s way. Recently his daughter got raped by the Internet and then his other daughter got haunted by some a-hole monsters. Now, it looks like he’s back on his feet chasing power, sex, and money. Winning!

Owen has attached himself to the circulatory system of Roger Donaldson’s Cities. The film will examine the economic downturn from a few different, interlinking vantage points. One will have Owen as a New York hedge fund manager who parties away our retirement funds. Amil Kapoor also stars as a Mumbai cop suspected of corruption. Personally, after having lost my job in the downturn, I’m not too interested in reliving those days through film. Let’s watch something else. I hear that Insidious is good.
How's Clive Owen going to get out of this one?

Can’t Clive Owen catch break? First, his daughter got Internet-predatored and now he’s living in a house that’s haunted by some asshole monsters. He has terrible, terrible luck.

As this teaser of the Juan Carlos Fresnadillo film Intruders demonstrates, Owen once again plays a concerned dad. But the terror this time around is more of the supernatural variety and not of the sporting a six-pack of Zima variety. It turns out that the girl’s childhood monsters are actually real, and man oh man, do they love loud noises. How’s Clive Owen going to get out of this one?

Clive Owen is veering wildly off of his career path to join the cast of a violent thriller. I’m kidding. Everything Owen does seems to be a violent thriller. James Marsh, the Oscar-winning director of Man on a Wire, is getting back into the fiction game with an espionage film set in the world of the IRA. This all sounds like it’s very much in Owen’s wheelhouse so far. Let’s keep digging.

Gillian Anderson, Andrea Riseborough, and Aiden Gillen have been cast, with Riseborough playing the female lead, though in what capacity that may be is unspecified. The movie is set to start shooting this May in Dublin. Yes, yes, very good. Owen’s British, so that works out well for him in terms of a commute.

Given this source material, it’s pretty clear that Owen will be able to play a morally ambiguous, rough-around-the-edges hero, so this role should fit him like a Snuggie just out of the dryer.

After viewing the newest trailer for Trust, it would appear that Dateline adapted their “To Catch a Predator” series into a suspense thriller. Clive Owen and Catherine Keener play the parents of a 14 year-old who gets an Internet boyfriend who is not what he claims to be. The trailer does a good job of making me want to know more about who this guy is. Is he 49 years-old? Does he just have one big eye in his forehead? I guess we’ll have to pay to find out. As trite as the subject matter could be, I’m hopeful that with this cast, Trust will stand the test of time better than other Internet-based thrillers such as The Net and Disclosure. The real wildcard here is David Schwimmer, who directs. His only other feature work was Run, Fatboy, Run, which didn’t exactly wow audiences with its deft direction, but the trailer seems to be cohesive (and cryptic) enough that audiences will want to pull at this thread. My guesses for who the online predator is (in descending order of likelihood):

Channing Tatum

Marcel, the monkey from “Friends”

Clint Howard

David Schwimmer has taken his message behind enemy lines by posting the trailer for David Schwimmer's Trust: Based On the Play "Trust" By David Schwimmer online. Sadly, since returning to investigate the debris of his dead planet many light years away, Chris Hansen isn't available to save our daughters from the clutches of sexual predators. Clive Owen stars as the dad in this cautionary tale about the dangers of letting your child chat with strangers online, and he should really step up his parenting a bit. You never know when your daughter's AOL Buddy might turn out to be a wolf in dog-wearing-sunglasses clothing.
Hey Predators. Learn how to sleep with Clive Owen's daughter after the jump...
