Iwanyk’s Thunder Road banner will be handling production, as they have recently on The Town, Seventh Son, and A Star Is Born. They’re kind of all over the place, huh?

The deal that’s been struck is based only on a pitch, and the premise and logline of the movie are being kept quiet, so there aren’t many details to report, other than the fact that Sam Worthington will be returning to space, which is where we found him in Avatar. (Deadline)

Thanks to a release date change, Clash of the Titans 2 will go head-to-head at the box office with the red hot dystopian teen novel-turned-Lionsgate-is-praying-franchise Hunger Games. They will now both open on March 30th, 2012. I guess the thinking is that teen girls will go see Hunger Games, and teen boys will see Wrath of the Titans – but what about teen couples? Will the decision of what movie to see that weeken break apart poor Tyler and Jessikka? Nah, probably Jessikka will win, freezing plans for any and all make-out sessions unless her hunger is satiated.

Damn you, Jessikka. Damn you and your crazily spelled version of a perfectly good first name. (Deadline)

For one, it’s really happening. According to director Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles), the actors have been in fight training for weeks and filming starts in just 10 days. At which point, they will release the kraken and point him to his trailer.

It’s also gonna be more “real” and “grounded” in reality than the first one. Though the sequel is also about Greek dudes killing freaky monsters, expect some Oscar-worthy dramatic performances too. Liebesman explains:

“For me, taking Greek mythology and all that fantasy and putting it in a real world that’s epic, like Gladiator, like a big Ridley Scott movie, and taking all that fantasy and putting it in, grounding it, making it feel real, that’s the movie that I wanted to see when I walked into Clash 1 and that’s the movie that Clash 2 is gonna be. That’s what I was looking for, I was looking to come in and have a real, intense, viscera kick-ass experience with spectacle but grounded, with great actors, and that’s what the second one will be.”

Unfortunately, the sequel isn’t really being shot in 3D, but there’s an on-set 3D stereographer. At least this time they’re going in thinking, “we’re gonna show this in 3D,” rather than having an executive say in post-production, “uh… you guys can make this 3D, right? Like, with a Final Cut Pro filter or something?”

Titans 2 is scheduled to clash into theaters March 23, 2012. (Collider, ComingSoon)

Pike faced some stiff competition for the role of Andromeda, going upa against the likes of noted Cee-Lo collaborator Gwyneth Paltrow. Alexa Davalos played Andromeda in the original Clash of the Titans, but was unavailable for the sequel, necessitating a new casting process for the starring role. Sam Worthington will reprise his role in the sequel, which is directed by Jonathan Liebesman who is wrapping Battle: Los Angeles right now.

Pike has just recently reemerged on the Hollywood radar after cutting her teeth on indie projects most recently. We should all look forward to seeing if she can bring her candid indie sensibilities to her role in the Wrath of the Titans. Just kidding. That won’t happen. (Deadline)

Actor Sam Worthington has pulled a Shia LaBeouf by trashing his recent film, Clash of the Titans. But don’t worry! The upcoming sequel, Wrath of the Titans, won’t suck my tiny, three-inch cyclops.

I just think we can improve on it. I think the first one, we kind of let down some people. And yeah, I totally agree. The only point of doing a sequel is either the audience demands it or you believe you can better the first one. What we’re setting out to do with this one — the writers and the director and myself — is improve.

If the only goal is to improve on the original, I’m fairly certain that can be accomplished. After all, unless they do a time-travel crossover with Sex and the City, or turn it into an anti-bullying parable, it can’t be any worse. (Moviefone via Collider)

In a recent interview with the Belfast Telegraph, Liam Neeson talked Titans. Specifically, he confirmed that the sequel to Clash of the Titans will be called Wrath of the Titans, and the script for the film is on its tenth draft.

“I’ve only read half of the script and there is still some work being done—they’re on script 10—but I think it’s going to be som kick-ass stuff and a very human story to it.”

I’m really bad at detecting sarcasm, so I’m not 100% sure that the script has really gone though ten drafts. But even an idiot can tell that Neeson’s comment about the quality of the story was facetious. Good one, Liam. (Latino Review)

Warner Bros is aiming high for the sequel to Clash Of The Titans. But maybe they’re aiming a little too high.

In news from the Land Of Make Believe, Production Weekly reports that the studio would like to put Javier Bardem and James Franco in silly wigs and robes for Wrath Of The Titans. I don’t think there’s anyway this is going to happen. It’s one thing to get Liam Neeson because HE. WILL. DO. ANYTHING. But both Bardem and Franco are enjoying Oscar-buzz for Biutiful and 127 Hours. It’s doubtful that they’ll flush that away so quickly. Then again, it is a chance to work with the director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.

Jonathan Liebesman will direct Clash of the Titans II, Coming Soon is reporting. Liebesman, who also directed the upcoming Battle: Los Angeles, will most likely be joined by Sam Worthington and Gemma Arterton, who both starred in the first installment. Unlike the first film, which was retrofitted, the sequel will be shot entirely in 3D. Also, unlike the first film, Clash of the Titans II will supposedly have a plot mapped out before shooting begins.

(Spoiler Alert) Hopefully this sequel will avoid some of the pitfalls of its predecessor. For example, one of the worst scenes from Clash of the Titans was the ending, when Zeus randomly resurrected a character who had died earlier in the film. Resurrection? Talk about an unbelievabl cop out? No wonder no one worships Zeus anymore.

The film will most likely be shot in 3D, and is tentatively scheduled to begin production in early in 2011.

I’m not exactly sure why Warner Bros. is putting money behind a sequel. By almost any standard, the first film was awful. But on a side note, the original did make $487 million worldwide. I’m beginning to think the only justification for revisiting the project is that it might make money, and frankly, I’m a little dispointed in Hollywood right now. Shame on you guys for chasing the almighty dollar instead of trying to make art. (First Showing)
