For those who weren’t able to catch the August-October 10-episode run of Strike Back, we’ve got some pretty good news for you. You’ll be able to get current with encore airings of the whole first season every Friday, starting tonight at 10 PM EST/PST.

If you have a Halloween party to go to tonight, don’t be a dick, just DVR it. Seriously, man. What’s your problem?

For those unfamiliar, Strike Back chronicles the actions of Section 20, a branch of MI6 that includes a former Delta Force operative. The serial program follows the bunch around as they go on the hunt for a Pakistani terrorist leader who’s planning something called Project Dawn.

I’m sure Project Dawn is worse than it sounds.

Exclusive Interview With ‘Strike Back’ Actors Philip Winchester and Amanda Mealing

With the first season of Strike Back behind us, the show’s ever growing fan base is already gearing up for season two. But for actors Philip Winchester and Amanda Mealing, the show’s success were never a sure thing.

“When you’re in the middle of filming, you’re so caught up in the day to day that you just never know,” said Winchester. “That’s why it’s really cool to see people who get it.”

Filmed on location in Hungary and South Africa, the series has been described as a gritter version of 24, with out the constraints of the real-time format and network sensors. And unlike its predecessor, which tended to lean toward the ridiculous, Strike Back and its host of former special forces consultants strive to maintain a gritty realism within the action.

“Action (shows) can be a little bit fairy tale, but we strive to keep it real,” added Mealing. “It’s also incredibly topical.”

As the stars noted, Osama bin Laden was killed by a special forces team while the first season was being filmed, a fact that helped to pique interest in the subject matter.

“People want to know who (special forces soldiers) are,” said Winchester. “People are curious.”

“Also, the bombs and the boobs don’t hurt.”

For viewers curious about season two, I regret to report that the plot is still top secret, even to the actors themselves. During our interview, Mealing recounted her costar’s comically futile attempt to get a look at next season’s scripts. But what we do know is that the bulk of the series will continue to be shot in South Africa, including both Johannesburg and Cape Town. More importantly, with most of the groundwork laid in season one, season two promises to delve more into the lives and back-stories of the individual characters.

But regardless of how season two takes shape, it’s clear that both actors are just happy to be along for the ride.

“During filming, we’re in hysterics, jumping out of helicopters with buildings crumbling around us,” said Winchester. I can’t beleive we get paid to play ‘Cowboys and Indians’ on steroids.”

It appears that the action series Strike Back has been kicking a lot of ass and taking a lot of names over at Cinemax. Want proof? Watch the above clip. It might be pretty quiet as far as Strike Back clips go, but the atmosphere on kick-ass stoicism is readily apparent. You may have heard of the action miniseries Strike Back, now showing in between Alien Sex Files parts 4 and 5 on Cinemax. If you haven’t, here’s a quick synopsis of episode 5, which premiered last night on Friday, September 16:

“After their previous trail went cold, Section 20′s next move is to track Latif’s (Jimi Mistry) weapons supplier, which leads them to Gerald Crawford (Iain Glen), a former British Royal Marine turned arms dealer. Once they snatch him, he agrees to help them only if they rescue his daughter Clare (Laura Haddock), an aid worker in the Sudan who is being held for ransom by a brutal militia leader Tahir (Adewale Akinnuoye Agbaje). The team reluctantly works with a questionable government official as a middleman to set up the exchange. When Scott is recognized by a war zone reporter and old flame Maggie (Rachel Shelley), he discovers that the story she was investigating may be intertwined with the arms deal. At the exchange point, Tahir has a different idea of doing the deal ‘in good faith.’”

Cinemax’s ‘Strike Back’ Puts Brits And An American On The Heels Of Terrorists

Oh, terrorists! When will you learn that you’ll never win against the good guys, especially when the good guys are a U.S. Special Forces operative and a crack British military team?

Such is the plot of Strike Back, a joint venture between HBO/Cinemax and Britain‘s Sky that is will continue its ten-episode first season with episode 2 this Friday, August 19th at 10 PM Eastern on Cinemax. The partnership gives the series a very international feel in the style of the Bourne franchise. The show’s quick pace takes the team from South Africa to India to Chechnya to England. Bring your passport.

We’ve got a clip for you, but first a little background courtesy of the show’s producers:

The team that tracks the terrorists is Section 20, an elite military black ops unit within the British government that focuses on high-risk, top-priority targets. When one of their own is captured and held hostage, the group enlists the help of Damien Scott (Sullivan Stapleton), a former Delta Force operative who is familiar with the terrorists. Although he has good instincts and skills, his cocky style is often at odds with the more formal team, especially the more by-the-book Sgt. Michael Stonebridge (Philip Winchester).

If you like the type of shows in which guys are pulling bullets out of each other’s legs, then this is probably for you.

Cinemax Prepping Coolest Amish Show Ever With Alan Ball

Cinemax, which recently got into producing original programming that isn’t softcore porn, is prepping what could possibly be the coolest sounding Amish series ever. Alan Ball of True Blood and Six Feet Under fame is attached as executive producer. According to the LATimes, Banshee, written by Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler, is “set in a small town in Pennsylvania Amish Country and features an enigmatic ex-con/martial arts expert posing as a murdered sheriff who imposes his own brand of justice while also cooking up plans that serve his own interests.”

Buuuuuuuuuuuuh? How does one pose as a murdered sheriff? Is there a supernatural element to this show? Can you be so badass that you’re both an ex-con AND a martial arts expert? And most importantly, does Chuck Norris have an offer on the table? And here I thought Witness and Kingpin did all that could be done with Amish Country. You’ve proved me wrong again, Brother Ball. From the creators of Femme Fatales Magazine comes a new late-night anthology series, “Femmes Fatales,” about powerful, sexy and dangerous women, debuting this Friday at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT exclusively on Cinemax. In each episode, women find ways of dealing with their problems and relaying on their survival instincts to get them out of sticky situations. The show is inspired by and styled in the tradition of pulp stories, film noir and graphic novels, and takes place in contemporary settings.

In this clip from the first episode, movie star Lacey Rivers (Kit Willesee) is in for the role of a lifetime after her fast-living lands her in jail. She has to rely on a starstruck guard to help her navigate the treacherous terrain of women’s prison. And that includes a sexy, take no shit cellmate. Things could get rough.

Ridley And Tony Scott Developing Non-Porn Content For Cinemax

Looks like Ridley and Tony Scott are all about television nowadays. In addition to “Labyrinth,” they’re also developing “The Sector” with Cinemax.

The deal comes under Cinemax’s new initiative to put less bare breasts and occasional glimpse of penis on their late night schedule. The action series “tracks the commander of a paramilitary unit who pursues a dangerous new race of genetically-enhanced humans.”

This makes me already miss Cinemax’s old shows about cosmetically-enhanced humans. Hopefully there will be a few episodes that take place in a ski lodge or at a fund-raising car wash. (The Wrap)

Cinemax Wants ‘Transporter’ Series In Between Softcore Porn

You might remember the movie The Transporter, starring Jason Statham as a kind of karate delivery man. He has three rules: Never change the deal, no names, and don’t kill any supervillains. Or something like that. Anyway, trash auteur extraordinaire Luc Besson is working as executive producer on a TV series based on his Transporter movies, to be shown in between Alien Sex Files 4 and Alien Sex Files 5 on Cinemax.

It’s part of Cinemax’s effort to get away from jokes like the one I just made, by placing an emphasis on scripted series like this one and their previously greenlit “Strike Back.”

No word on who they’re getting to play Frank Martin, the titular character originated by Jason Statham in the movies. Have they considered Jon Hamm? I bet he can do a pretty good British accent. (via Deadline)

Cinemax To Up Their Wardrobe Budget

Sorry guys. It looks like Cinemax used to be cool. The pay cable network has announced that it is forgoing the programming that helped it earn the nickname “Skinemax” in order to focus on producing shows that don’t require cock socks.

In addition to the new action series “Strike Back,” Cinemax has struck a deal to turn The Transporter films into a television series that nobody will watch.

“We’re exploring a few other shows like “Strike Back” that we feel would add value for the Cinemax subscriber, but there is nothing else to announce at this time,” says a spokesman.

Seems like another heartless move by a giant corporation. Think of all the fledgling actresses from Florida. How are they supposed to eat now? Or more importantly, WHAT will they resort to eating now?? (THR)
