A 20-year-old woman came forward today with claims that Justin Bieber nailed her backstage at one of his concerts and left her with child. Though the singer’s camp (and lack of pubes) deny his involvement in passing her his seed, you can’t help but wonder. Bieber‘s team said in a statement, “While we haven’t yet seen the lawsuit, it’s sad that someone would fabricate malicious, defamatory and demonstrably false claims.” Which is pretty much their stock response whenever the kid gets caught being an asshole. So again, you have to wonder.

If history is any indicator, this could go either way. Hollywood stars have always been the subject of paternity suits, whether ludicrous or with merit. No one will really know if Bieber is the dad until he submits for DNA testing. And no using hypnosis to change the results, Justin. That’s cheating.

At any rate, here are nine celebrities that feel Justin Bieber‘s pain.

Mel Gibson

Back before he morphed into a sputtering, hate-fueled mess, there were many who were happy to align themselves with Mel Gibson. In 2006, a 29-year-old woman came forward claiming to be his love-child, saying that years earlier (30 years, I would guess) Mel had picked up her hitchhiking mother and then gave her more than just a lift. Gibson has not submitted for DNA testing.

Eddie Murphy

After dating Spice Girl Mel B., Eddie Murphy was skeptical when she told him that she was pregnant with his child. He commented, “I don’t know whose child that is until it comes out and has a blood test.” Murphy then refused to take a paternity test until the courts got involved. The results proved he is the father of their little girl. However, he has made no attempts to be in her life. Mel B. later went on to marry Stephen Belafonte, a celebrity mooch who is wanted in New Jersey for killing a duck with a brick.

Marc Anthony

Marc Anthony was accused of fathering a child with a Miami waitress while still married to his first wife. However, test results proved that he is not the dad. Despite this fact, he should probably not go back to that restaurant. Lord only knows what will end up in his food.

Adam Sandler is toying around with the idea of remaking the classic comedy Three Men and a Baby for a post-Guttenberg generation. However, the original film’s conceit of three swinging bachelor roommates raising a baby is being turned on its stomach. In Sandler’s version of the film, David Spade, Chris Rock, and Rob Schneider would play the three men. Oh yeah, and this time they won’t so much be roommates as they will be in a polyamorous gay relationship with one another.

There’s no word whether or not this will conflict with the Three Men and a Bride sequel that Steve Guttenberg announced or whether or not it will conflict with what people actually want to view. Though Sandler himself won’t play a lead role, it is expected that he could cameo. Probably as a Cajun guy prone to loudly encouraging the film’s protagonist. (Movieweb)

Looks like What To Expect When You’re Expecting is getting the full-on high profile ensemble cast treatment. More popularly known as the He’s Just Not That Into You casting technique, the Kirk Jones film has added Chris Rock, Anna Kendrick, and Brooklyn Decker to the cast that already includes Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz.

Rock will play the head of a group of expectant fathers who speaks at unnecessarily loud volumes and Kendrick and Decker will both play mommies-to-be. Kendrick’s character is Rosie, a girl who becomes pregnant after hooking up with a fellow food truck owner. Five bucks says they open a bakery truck called “Bun In The Oven.” Decker, meanwhile, will play an impossibly hot woman married to an older man. She pisses off all her friends when she breezes through a pregnancy with twins and is still awarded the Congressional Medal Of Women I’d Like To Motorboat. Haters gonna hate. (Deadline and Deadline)

Fou funny people. Four normal chairs. One nondescript room. That’s what you’re getting with HBO’s upcoming series “Talking Funny.” Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Louis C.K. and Ricky Gervais are the four funny people. These are some of the best stand-up comedians of all-time, as well as the guy who made Bee Movie. I keed, I keed – Seinfeld is obviously one of the greats, but seriously, Bee Movie is terrible.

Above is a trailer for the series, and below is the brand new poster. The trailer looks good – clearly, we are in for some solid, joke-related chat. The poster I’m not so into. I find it weird that this is a show about comedians talking to each other, and none of them are facing each other in the poster. Gervais is maybe sort of looking Seinfeld, but Seinfeld is too busy looking at nothing to notice him. At least I know from the trailer that they will occasionally make eye contact while speaking. Jerry Seinfeld, Ricky Gervais, Louis C.K., and Chris Rock are all going to sit down and shoot the shit for an hour or so for HBO’s upcoming special “Talking Funny.” The quartet will wax poetic on all things comedy, from their specific approach to writing and performing, to their experiences in the entertainment industry.

Each comic answers questions such as: “Who was the first funny kid you ever met?,” “When is it time to add new material to your act?” and “How do you know when you’ve hit on the proverbial ‘thing’ that sets you apart?,” giving quirky insights into what rocketed them to being the best in the business and at the top of their game.

Sounds interesting. Obviously it’d be better to see any one of these four actually performing instead of just talking about performing, but in a medium like television that’s usually a wasteland when it comes to stand up, I’ll take what I can get. “Talking Funny” airs Friday April 22nd at 9pm on HBO. The Worst of the Best: Anthony Hopkins http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/the-worst-of-the-best-anthony-hopkins/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/the-worst-of-the-best-anthony-hopkins/#comments Mon, 24 Jan 2011 21:59:36 +0000 Jame Gumb http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=21770 When a career spans more than four decades, even the best and the brightest are bound to make some awful films.

The post The Worst of the Best: Anthony Hopkins appeared first on Screen Junkies.

]]>

There’s no denying that Anthony Hopkins is talented. In fact, he’s arguably one of our greatest living actors. But when a career spans more than four decades, even the best and the brightest are bound to make some awful films. Will Hopkins latest film, The Rite, fall into that category? While we’ll have to wait and see, the January release date certainly doesn’t bode well. But if the film does prove to be a dud, it will be in good company. Actually, it will be in Bad Company. Here’s a look at nine of Anthony Hopkins‘ worst films.

RT = Rotten Tomatoes Fresh Rating

Freejack (1992) – RT = 17%

In Freejack, Hopkins plays a wealthy industrialist from the future. Of course, the film was made in 1992, and the future in question (the year 2009) is now the past, which is weird.

At any rate, in 2009, the rich pay to kidnap people from the past in order to steal their healthy bodies. If someone from the past escapes before they are harvested, they are known as a Freejack, and Mick Jagger is sent to hunt them down.

I wonder why this film bombed.

Meet Joe Black (1998) – RT = 50%

Spoiler alert: Meet Joe Black sucks. Not only that, but the original version is three hours long, which doesn’t help matters at all.

The plot involves a rich old man (Hopkins) giving the grim reaper (Joe Black) a tour of earth in exchange for a temporary reprieve from death, and the two go on a series of adventures involving corporate mergers and union disputes. How exciting.

The Wolfman (2010) – RT = 33%

While most of the films on this list are from the 1990′s, last years remake of The Wolfman proved that you’re never to old to make a really bad movie.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) – RT = 53%

In all fairness, Anthony Hopkins is only the narrator, so it’s hardly his fault that the film was awful. But even so, anyone who was associated with tarnishing this beloved children’s classic deserves to be publicly shamed.

Instinct (1999) – RT = 27%

Pairing Anthony Hopkins with Cuba Gooding Jr. is like covering a steak with ketchup. But that didn’t stop the producers of Instinct.

The plot involves a missing anthropologist (Hopkins) who resurfaces in Africa and kills a group of park rangers. As it turns out, Hopkins’ character has been living with gorillas during his absence, and only killed the rangers after they attacked his new ape friends. It’s like Gorillas in the Mist, but infinitely more stupid.

The Road to Wellville (1994) – RT = 44%

The Road to Wellville is fictionalized account of the life of John Harvey Kellogg, a nineteenth-century health nut with a penchant for enemas and nutritional supplements. I’m not a fan of the film, but based on what I just described, wouldn’t you have loved to have been in on the pitch meeting?

Kellogg went on to create Corn Flakes, and the film is about as exciting as that sounds. Also, it’s a comedy, so if you find breakfast cereal funny, you should definitely check it out.

Hannibal (2000) – RT = 39%

How do you follow Silence of the Lambs, the critically acclaimed psychological thriller that swept all-five of the major Academy Awards? You don’t. Actress Jodi Foster and director Jonathan Demme understood this, but apparently Anthony Hopkins didn’t get the memo. I’m assuming the producers gave Hopkins a dump truck full of money, because that’s the only way his involvement makes sense.

On its own, it’s not the worst film in the world. But given the fact that it’s the sequel to such an impressive film, it was probably doomed from the start.

Slipstream (2007) – RT = 23%

To be fair, Slipstream, a film written, directed by and starring Anthony Hopkins, has its defenders. Among them, film critic Roger Ebert, who called the film the most experimental of the year. But when the words “vanity project” keep popping up in other reviews, it’s definitely a bad sign.

Bad Company (2002) – RT = 10%

I love Chris Rock, but if he’s in a film, chances are it will suck. That’s science talking. Throw director Joel Schumacher and producer Jerry Bruckheimer into the mix, and you’ve got yourself a bona fide crap fest. You could have brought in the reanimated corpse of Laurence Olivier, and it still wouldn’t have saved Bad Company.

In the film, Hopkins plays a CIA agent who is put in charge of training a street hustler (Chris Rock) for a sensitive mission. What does the CIA need with a street hustler? As it happens, the hustler is the long-lost twin brother of a CIA agent (also played by Rock) who was killed in action, and the agency needs him as a stand in. Sound stupid? It is. And to make matters worse, the terrorism-heavy plot didn’t sit well with studio executives in the wake of the September 11th attacks, and the film was delayed for several months.

Grown Ups
PG-13, 98min., 2010
Cast: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schiender, Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph, Colin Quinn, Tim Meadows and Steve Buscemi
Directed by Dennis Dugean
Screenplay Adam Sandler and Fred Wolf

Throughout the 98 minutes of Grown Ups your brain keeps nudging you to just repeat these words: “It’s no surprise, because it’s an Adam Sandler movie.”

Here we have a full-fledged cast of comedians from Sandler, to Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, and yes, even the forever slave to Sandler movies, Rob Schneider counts as a comic, telling no jokes and just delivering kick to the balls or pie in the face moments.

It’s no surprise because it’s an Adam Sandler movie.

MORE AFTER THE JUMP…

Even real actresses like Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, and Maya Rudolph are given very little to do other than speak a line every 10 minutes and then have breast milk shoot at them or have toilet paper get stuck to their butts.

It’s no surprise because it’s an Adam Sandler movie.

Cameos by SNL cast members Colin Quinn, Tim Meadows and even Steve Buscemi offer little help to punch up the material, though Meadows and Rock get into a quick scuffle, providing one of the movies only few good laughs. Which is what people want from a Sandler movie: a good laugh here and there, but here it’s just a bunch of endless dick and fart jokes.

It’s no surprise because it’s an Adam Sandler movie.

The movie looks very expensive from all of the extras and large set pieces – from a New Hampshire lake house to a mammoth-sized water park and a huge 4th of July picnic at the end. The movie was just an excuse to go on vacation and get paid at the same time for Sandler and his crew.

It’s no surprise because it’s an Adam Sandler…
Time Out. Stop this madness.

Why has Sandle taken the money and run? We’ve seen Sandler make unapologetic critic-proof movies since the the mid-90s, but somewhere when his movies started to make money–throwing the middle finger at Big Daddy–they’ve become some of the most blandest and forgettable comedy movies of the past decade.

Not including Punch Drunk-Love, Reign Over Me, or Funny People, which all may be another excuse for him to go back and make these kind of money burning movies.

Kids growing up back in the mid-90s of the Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore days could quote Sandler left and right, “Stop staring at me swwwan”, “Sooo hot want to touch the hiney, ouwww!” It was stupid but funny. Now, I can’t think of one line from Click, I Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, or even 50 First Dates worth shouting at my friends at an inappropriate time.

By the end of Grown Ups, your brain is hurting from repeating these excuses, you’ve realized that you have officially ‘grown up’ from these “kind of comedies," yet all you want to do is run out of the theater like a scared little kid.

Death at a Funeral
R, 93m., 2010
Cast: Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Zoe Saldana, James Marsden, Columbus Short, Regina King, Keith David, Peter Dinkaledge with Loretta Devine, Luke Wilson, Tracy Morgan and Danny Glover
Directed by Neil LaBute
Screenplay by Dean Craig based upon his 2007 UK screenplay of Death at a Funeral

Death at a Funeral is an uneven, occasionally funny remake of the 2007 sleeper British comedy.

As family and friends gather for a funeral in an upper class community of Los Angles, eldest son Aaron (Chris Rock, leading an All-Star cast) has to keep everything under control for one afternoon, as he is faced with drugged out family members, bodies popping out of caskets and a blackmailing little man (Peter Dinkaledge, reprising his role from the UK original).

The All-Star mourners include a mix of current favorite actors from Zoe Saldana, Columbus Short, and James Marsden, as well as comedians Martin Lawrence, Regina King, Tracy Morgan and old screen favorites like Loretta Devine, Keith David and Danny Glover. (Somewhere in this mad-batch of characters is Luke Wilson looking fatter and awkward as ever.)

Many of these acting styles don’t particular blend well, but work on their own time. What keeps it all from total disaster is director Neil LaBute.

LaBute treats this Americanized version more like a mad capped play from the 1940s (Harvey or You Can’t Take it with You, come to mind). The first 20 minutes of the movie has some snappy dialogue and hilarious stage tableaux, one of which contains 4 of his male leads starring over a body of a 5th actor.

Yet by the end LaBute’s direction feels tired and he lets go of a lot moments that could have been true comedically classic scenes, like the fight between Rock and Lawrence as battlin brothers could have packed a lot more punch than a bunch of school yard disses and soft blows.

A lot of this movies success really depends on your personal preferences; if you like Rock, Lawrence, and Morgan then this film is a great canvass for their own individual shticks to be let loose, but if you don’t then this is not a movie for you.

Death at a Funeral is something that is classical in the sense of mad capped comedies, but if you’ve seen the original then most of the big laugh-out surprises will be turning in their graves.

In all honesty though, why the hell wouldn't this group make this movie? They're guaranteed sh*tloads of benjamins, and they get to hang out, laugh, and swing from ropes all day. Sure, Chris Farley is throwing a tantrum in heaven over the sight of Kevin James playing a role clearly intended for him, but I think we all know digitally placing him in the film wouldn't have worked out any better. The ground breaking concept of Grown Ups is about five good friends reuniting for a Fourth of July holiday weekend thirty years after their high school graduation. No, it's not The Big Chill. In all honesty though, why the hell wouldn’t this group make this movie? They’re guaranteed sh*tloads of benjamins, and they get to hang out, laugh, and swing from ropes all day.

Sure, Chris Farley is throwing a tantrum in heaven over the sight of Kevin James playing a role clearly intended for him, but I think we all know digitally placing him in the film wouldn’t have worked out any better.

The ground breaking concept of Grown Ups is about five good friends reuniting for a Fourth of July holiday weekend thirty years after thei high school graduation. No, it’s not The Big Chill. I know, but no.

Check out the teaser trailer after the jump.
