Shouldn't it technically be 'Hello, Ghost'?

Because the well of American scripts in which studios can shoehorn Adam Sandler is beginning to run dry, director Chris Columbus has turned to the world of Korean cinema and the 2010 export Hello Ghost as a starring vehicle for Mr. Happy Madison.

Hello Ghost is a film about a man who has survived multiple suicide attempts (yay!) and now has the buren of helping four ghosts that interlope in his life until their problems are solved and they go on their merry ghost-y way.

Unless we actually get to Adam Sandler repeatedly try to kill himself, then fail at even that, then maybe we should just toss this in the pile with Click and Grown Ups 2 and keep living our lives.

Brace yourselves for 3D trolls.

Chris Columbus has discovered he loves Troll Hunter. The Home Alone and Harry Potter director’s 1492 Pictures has partnered with CJ Entertainment & Media to purchase the remake rights to the Norwegian film. In current release in the US, the festival favorite follows a group of students working on a documentary about a recent string of bizarre bear murders (I don’t know if that means bears were murdered or bears were murdering people. Or other bears for that matter. (Somebody make this film)), who discover something far more terrifying. They then document a man known at the Troll Hunter as hunts the giants throughout the woodside.

“Troll Hunter was a visceral, thrilling cinematic rock and roller coaster ride of a movie. Visually, there are scenes in this film that American audiences have never seen. We want to introduce an International audience to this amazing moviegoing experience!” said Chris Columbus.

I think I can speak for the American movie-going public when I say, the movie needs to end with a giant troll swallowing a huge bomb, and then grumbling “Oh, shhh–” mere seconds before exploding. That’s why you guys didn’t like Cloverfield, right??
Hurricanes AND eerie premonitions? This movie's got something for fans of all sorts of different awful things.

I don’t see why Chris Columbus can’t make “disaster-thriller” a legitimate genre. He’ll give it a go with an adaptation of the novel Cyprus House by Michael Koryta, the story of a WWI vet who faces a hurricane in the wake of premonitions of his companions’ deaths. In case it wasn’t clear, the film is set in 1935. If it was set in the present day, the protagonist would be really, really, really old.

<a class='img' href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/the-help-trailer-looks-like-oprahs-book-club-the-movie/' title=''The Help' Trailer Looks Like 'Oprah's Book Club: The Movie''>
'The Help' Trailer Looks Like 'Oprah's Book Club: The Movie'

While the quality of his more recent work hasn’t matched the potential he exhibited with smart family comedies such as Home Alone and Adventures in Babysitting (even his two Harry Potters were considered the runts of the litter), his 1492 production company seems to have been keeping itself quite busy recently with The Help (ugh), and a remake of the creepy Korean film Hello Ghost, which he would also direct. His next trip behind the camera will be the next installment of the ‘Percy Jackson’ saga, and there’s nothing you or me or anyone else can do about it. (Deadline)

It's been confirmed that 'Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters' is officially being worked on. My hands are trembling with excitement as I type this.

I know you’ve been refreshing Screen Junkies all day for a possible Percy Jackson 2 announcement. Now you can finally get on with the rest of your life, because it’s been confirmed that Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters is officially being worked on. My hands are trembling with excitement as I type this.

Fox 2000 has signed the Perce-Man himself Logan Lerman for the sequel, and while Chris Columbus probably won’t return as director/ruiner, he will produce Sea of Monsters. Writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (1408) will adapt Rick Riordan’s second novel in the popular Percy Jackson series.

Lightning Thief‘s haul was far from Olympian, but the books remain popular, so Fox 2000 will give Percy Jackson another chance to sla the box office monster. Maybe Percy will grow up from a half-blood god to a Harry Potter, if we all just give it a chance, which at the moment I’m not prepared to do.

Below is a plot summary from the book your little cousin won’t shut up about. (Collider)

Percy Jackson’s seventh-grade year has been surprisingly quiet. Not a single monster has set foot on his New York prep-school campus. But when an innocent game of dodgeball among Percy and his classmates turns into a death match against an ugly gang of cannibal giants, things get… well, ugly. And the unexpected arrival of Percy’s friend Annabeth brings more bad news: the magical borders that protect Camp Half-Blood have been poisoned by a mysterious enemy, and unless a cure is found, the only safe haven for demigods will be destroyed.

In this fresh, funny, and hugely anticipated follow up to The Lightning Thief, Percy and his friends must journey into the Sea of Monsters to save their beloved camp. But first, Percy will discover a stunning new secret about his family — one that makes him question whether being claimed as Poseidon’s son is an honor or simply a cruel joke.
America's Least Objectionable Filmmaker Chris Columbus is apparently a fan of the cinema of Korea.

America’s Least Objectionable Filmmaker Chris Columbus is apparently a fan of the cinema of Korea. And not the ultra-violent squid-eating kind, but the gentler kind. But still with ghosts and suicide. The movie is called Hello Ghost, and here’s a quick synopsis: “After a young man tries to kill himself, he’s haunted by four ghosts. They won’t stop haunting him until he helps each of them fulfill one wish.”

And Chris Columbus knows that no movie not in English is worth watching by American audiences, so he’s snapped up the remake rights:

“After watching Hello Ghost I was immediately struck by the film’s ability to mix comedy, drama and complex emotional themes. Its strong universal storyline translates to any culture, and I’m looking forward to bringing a version of this wonderful story to the English-speaking audience.”

Thanks, Chris! His last movie was the forgotten Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, so maybe this one will pass by and be forgotten as well. But, er, best of luck Mr. Columbus. (via Deadline)

When you’re adapting a famous museum of freaks into a movie, who better to star than a man once famous for talking out of his butt?

A movie version of the Ripley’s Believe It Or Not franchise has been in the works for awhile now. Both Tim Burton and Chris Columbus have been attached at different points. Now it looks like Ripley’s will be written by Forrest Gump scribe Eric Roth and star Jim Carrey as globe-trotting newspaper columnist Robert Ripley. Personally, I would have cast Carrey as the guy who can stick a billiards ball, a tennis ball and a golf ball in his mouth and still whistle, but if they wanted my input, damn it, they should have asked me sooner.

Here’s a synopsis from Deadline:

The film is about Ripley’s search around the world for the most unusual people and places that he immortalized in his newspaper column. The locales were exotic and the sights were unbelievable, but the film is about Ripley’s journey to appreciate that the unusual people were more than just conquests to be cataloged.

So he learns that freaks aren’t just attractions who help sell tickets to museums. They’re also people. Real people. Real freaky people who will get tourists to buy tickets to a schlocky museum. That’s gonna be a very sweet ending, I can tell. (Deadline)
