Tony Chu is a federal agent who gets clues from eating. Get it? "Chew?"

Showtime has decided to shake things up in its original programming lineup by adding a dark comedy. Seriously. You can’t make this stuff up.

In the vein of”Dexter,” “Nurse Jackie,”"Weeds,” “Californication,” “The Big C,” “Shameless,” and “The United States of Tara,” comes something that’s kind of like all of those, only about a detective. “Chew” is the story of federal agent Tony Chu, who is able to “get psychic impressions from the things he eats.” Oh. So the title works on two levels. Fun. The show will follow Agent Chu as he gets assigned the toughest and most bizarre cases floating around.

The story will be adapted from the comic of the same name and produced by Circle of Confusion, which has had a breakout year with its other comic-based project,”The Walking Dead.” It’s been discussed that “Chew” will have a strong food focus, which would make “Weeds” a natural lead-in. Zing. (Deadline)
