Comedy genius Jonathan Winters, best known for playing the crazy old guy goofing around with Robin Williams in Mork & Mindy, has passed away at the age of 87. He died in his home of natural causes and not by random lion attack as the Wall Street Journal erroneously reported. Our condolences to all who loved him.

Richard Dawson has died.

Beloved game show host and kissing bandit Richard Dawson has passed away. The former Family Feud host died on Saturday at the age of 79 from complications related to esophageal cancer. He began his career as a stand up comedian before booking roles on The Steve Allen Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Hogan’s Heroes, and eventually the sadistic game show host who terrorized Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Running Man.

As Feud’s original host, Dawson kissed “somewhere in the vicinity of 20,000″ contestants. One of which was Gretchen Johnson, the woman who would become his second wife. Dawson is survived by Gretchen and their daughter, as well as two sons from his first marriage to actress Diana Dors.

An icon has passed and we should not allow him to die in vain. I beseech you. Lay down your differences. It’s time that all of this feuding should end.

When was the last time you hugged Willie Aames?

Losing Robert Hegyes (Welcome Back, Kotter’s Epstein) has taken us here at Screen Junkies by surprise. I guess we just figured that he’d always be around and took for granted the fact that life is fleeting. We never called to check in on him or made sure to get birthday cards mailed before it was too late. Today has been a wake up call.

We need to start showing our beloved sitcom stars how much they really mean to us. That we appreciate them and the gift of repeated laughter they’ve given us over the years. That all changes today. Alexander Payne or Quentin Tarantino shouldn’t have to save them for obscurity to make us love them again. If you see any of the beloved sitcom characters below, please give them a hug from us.

J.J. Evans

J.J. Evans made America his bitch with three simple syllables, DYN-O-MITE. To deny his charm is to deny all things we know to be true. He’s even won over white supremacists. Here’s photographic proof.

Buddy Lembeck

Whose better than Buddy Lembeck? Eight is Enough star Willie Aames captured lightning in a bottle for a second time when he was cast as a loveable dope on Charles In Charge. You could always count on Buddy for the best punchlines.

With two hit shows under his belt, Aames himself is no stranger to keeping busy. In fact, he’s got a pretty diverse resume. Child star, drug addict, born again Christian, ordained minister, furniture builder, suicide survivor, financial advisor, bankruptcy petitioner, and assistant cruise ship director.

Known for his easy charm, winning smile, and knack for losing himself in a role, Cheetah was arguably one of the most famous animal actors in Hollywood’s rich history.

Apart from his acting accomplishments, Cheetah also holds the oldest non-human primate record in the Guinness Book, living to reach the age of 80. The normal life expectancy for a chimpanzee in captivity is 35 to 40 years of age.

He spent his golden years at the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary in Palm Harbor, Florida alongside aside a myriad of other retired film and zoo animals who had no place else to go. You can donate here if you would like to pay your respects and help better the lives of these animals.

CBS‘s 60 Minutes paid tribute to their fallen brother Andy Rooney last night in the most fitting way possible. By jamming a quickly slapped together video between toothpaste ads and car commercials at the tail of the show.

“America‘s favorite grouch-in-chief” passed away this weekend after complications from a minor surgery. Why do they call it a “minor” surgery if it involves complications? You would think that a minor procedure would be worry free, not something that leads to death. Or perhaps it’s called that because the surgery is performed by a minor. Doubtful. Young people today are too busy dragging their baggy clothes down the street, rather than take the time to learn the medical trade and the human body. I bet that you couldn’t find a teenager that could point to their own Iliac’s Crest. Back in my day, all the doctors had gone off to war, so we had to depend on teenagers for our medical well-being. At least then we could trust that they would wash their hands first. Do you know what I hate? Soap in a pump bottle. The stem that is supposed to carry the soap to your dirty hand doesn’t reach to the bottom of the bottle. That deprives the consumer of hard-earned soap. I’ll take a palm full of soap chips over that any day of the week. The days of the week make me angry. Wednesday is commonly referred to as “Hump Day,” which means it is the most difficult day in the week. Once you get passed it, everything else is better by comparison. But what if your work week ends on a Wednesday? Then your final day is the most difficult and stressful. And what if your only day off happens to fall on a Wednesday. Or the holidays? Christmas with family can be stressful enough. I just don’t know. Sounds complicated.

Steve Jobs isn’t the only dead guy in town. Sadly, square-jawed character actor Charles Napier has passed away at the age of 75. The Bakersfield, California resident enjoyed a 43 year screen career, having recently voiced Dr. Spelts on Archer. Napier is most famous for his authorative look which earned him memorable roles in Rambo: First Blood Part II, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, The Blues Brothers, and The Silence of the Lambs.

“Columbo” star Peter Falk has passed away according to his family members. Falk died Thursday night at his Beverly Hills estate. No cause of death has been reported but the actor had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease.

Though best known for his role as the trench-coated detective (a role that would win him four Emmys), Falk was also memorable for his performances in films like The Princess Bride and Murder By Death. In 1961, he became the first actor nominated for an Oscar and an Emmy in the same year, receiving best supporting nominations for the movie Murder, Inc., and the TV show “The Law and Mr. Jones.” He followed up in 1962 by being doubly nominated again for supporting actor for the movie Pocketful of Miracles and best actor (he won) for “The Price of Tomatoes,” which was an episode of “The Dick Powell Theatre.”

Despite the efforts of Dr. Drew Pinsky, Conaway was placed into a medically-induced (not by himself) after a recent drug overdose. His family made the painful decision to remove his life support today.

Besides his roles on “Taxi” and his appearances on “Celebrity Rehab,” Conaway is also known as Kenickie from Grease, “Babylon 5″, “Murder, She Wrote,” and was slated to appear in a movie about the Chilean miners. This is a prime example of the damage that drugs can do. That’s why kid’s should avoid leather jackets and other gateway apparel at all costs. Just heard that Elizabeth Taylor passed away, you guys.

Her publicist reports that she died of heart failure at the age of 79. Known for her work in films like Cleopatra, Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf, which she won the Oscar for, and as the voice of Maggie Simpson, Taylor was also known for her dedication to important causes such as AIDs activism.

There’s a big open hole in Hollywood today as one of its most famous icons is now gone. Taylor is survived by 4,734 ex-husbands.

Film composer John Barry passed away yesterday at the age of 77.

The multiple Oscar-winner left an indelible mark on the franchise having supplied the theme songs to eleven of the twenty-two films in the series, beginning with Dr. No and ending with The Living Daylights.
He was well known for towing thirteen boats at a time across various harbors up until the age of 70. In addition to being a human tugboat, he once approached my friend at a mall food court and gave him an unsolicited shoulder rub. To which my friend responded, “Oh hi. Nice to see you.” And then seconds after, “Who the eff was that guy?!”

But that’s the kind of person Jack LaLanne was. He’d swim wearing shackles while towing over a dozen boats behind his 70-year old body and give shoulder rubs to strangers while they dined on China Wok.

He also invented the Juice Tiger. (NY Times)

The director of Bullitt and Krull (not to be confused with Kull The Conquerer, which is not to be seen) died yesterday at the age of 81.

Yates garnered four Oscar nominations for the films Breaking Away and The Dresser. He forever changed the face of the action film with Bullitt‘s classic car chase scene that sent Steve McQueen screaming through San Francisco in a Ford Mustang. Nowadays we have Vin Diesel skyping while surfing on nuclear torpedoes as they hop a row of helicopters. As extreme as they may be, today’s action films can’t hold a candle to the suspense Yates was able to conjure with a driver and a car. He will be missed.
We’ve lost our cheek boniest actor. Pete Postlethwaite passed away yesterday after a long battle with testicular cancer. After garnering and Academy Award nomination for his role opposite Daniel Day Lewis in In The Name Of The Father, Postlethwaite went on to appear in a slew of well-known films such as The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Romeo + Juliet, Amistad, and The Usual Suspects. Just this past year he had roles in Inception, The Town, and Clash Of The Titans. I only regret that we’ll never get to view him in Real 3-D. The post-conversion process did him no justice.
Pneumonia has claimed another comedy legend. Pink Panther creator Blake Edwards passed away today at the age of 88. His film resume boasts an impressive list of classics: The Pink Panther films, The Party, Breakfast At Tiffany’s, and Blind Date to name a few. Between 10, S.O.B., and Skin Deep, he was also a hero when it came to convincing hot actresses to do topless scenes.

It was his work with Peter Sellers that had the biggest impact on me. Especially The Party. If you haven’t seen that, I’ll loan you my copy. I just need your to hold your favorite thing as collateral.
Beloved comic actor Leslie Nielsen has passed away at the age of 84. He is best known for his roles in hysterical spoof films as well as Scary Movie 4. It was his work as the incompetent Lt. Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun series of films that cemented his status as a legend. Though he got his start sixty years ago in dramatic roles, it was his deadpan delivery in the over-the-top comedies that garnered him fans from all over the world.

His agent confirmed that the actor passed away surrounded by his wife and friends due to complications of pneumonia early Sunday evening. Screen Junkies extends our deepest condolences. We’ve truly lost one of the greats.
