Apart from his acting accomplishments, Cheetah also holds the oldest non-human primate record in the Guinness Book, living to reach the age of 80. The normal life expectancy for a chimpanzee in captivity is 35 to 40 years of age.

“America‘s favorite grouch-in-chief” passed away this weekend after complications from a minor surgery. Why do they call it a “minor” surgery if it involves complications? You would think that a minor procedure would be worry free, not something that leads to death. Or perhaps it’s called that because the surgery is performed by a minor. Doubtful. Young people today are too busy dragging their baggy clothes down the street, rather than take the time to learn the medical trade and the human body. I bet that you couldn’t find a teenager that could point to their own Iliac’s Crest. Back in my day, all the doctors had gone off to war, so we had to depend on teenagers for our medical well-being. At least then we could trust that they would wash their hands first. Do you know what I hate? Soap in a pump bottle. The stem that is supposed to carry the soap to your dirty hand doesn’t reach to the bottom of the bottle. That deprives the consumer of hard-earned soap. I’ll take a palm full of soap chips over that any day of the week. The days of the week make me angry. Wednesday is commonly referred to as “Hump Day,” which means it is the most difficult day in the week. Once you get passed it, everything else is better by comparison. But what if your work week ends on a Wednesday? Then your final day is the most difficult and stressful. And what if your only day off happens to fall on a Wednesday. Or the holidays? Christmas with family can be stressful enough. I just don’t know. Sounds complicated.

This is always a difficult time of year to pass away. I’m predicting we’ll see more than a few Charles Napier costumes this Halloween.

Whitfield was plucked out of obscurity for the lead on the hit Starz series and had completed filming of the first season when diagnosed. Plans for a second season were put on hold while Whitfield underwent treatment. However, his condition grew worse and the network was forced to replace him.

Whitfield was 39.

Though best known for his role as the trench-coated detective (a role that would win him four Emmys), Falk was also memorable for his performances in films like The Princess Bride and Murder By Death. In 1961, he became the first actor nominated for an Oscar and an Emmy in the same year, receiving best supporting nominations for the movie Murder, Inc., and the TV show “The Law and Mr. Jones.” He followed up in 1962 by being doubly nominated again for supporting actor for the movie Pocketful of Miracles and best actor (he won) for “The Price of Tomatoes,” which was an episode of “The Dick Powell Theatre.”

There’s a big open hole in Hollywood today as one of its most famous icons is now gone. Taylor is survived by 4,734 ex-husbands.

The multiple Oscar-winner left an indelible mark on the franchise having supplied the theme songs to eleven of the twenty-two films in the series, beginning with Dr. No and ending with The Living Daylights. His influence on music remains strong even in the modern day. Kanye West sampled his “Diamonds Are Forever” and his style was cribbed for films like Inception and The Incredibles. Yates garnered four Oscar nominations for the films Breaking Away and The Dresser. He forever changed the face of the action film with Bullitt‘s classic car chase scene that sent Steve McQueen screaming through San Francisco in a Ford Mustang. Nowadays we have Vin Diesel skyping while surfing on nuclear torpedoes as they hop a row of helicopters. As extreme as they may be, today’s action films can’t hold a candle to the suspense Yates was able to conjure with a driver and a car. He will be missed. (AP)

We’ve lost our cheek boniest actor. Pete Postlethwaite passed away yesterday after a long battle with testicular cancer. After garnering and Academy Award nomination for his role opposite Daniel Day Lewis in In The Name Of The Father, Postlethwaite went on to appear in a slew of well-known films such as The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Romeo + Juliet, Amistad, and The Usual Suspects. Just this past year he had roles in Inception, The Town, and Clash Of The Titans. I only regret that we’ll never get to view him in Real 3-D. The post-conversion process did him no justice. Pneumonia has claimed another comedy legend. Pink Panther creator Blake Edwards passed away today at the age of 88. His film resume boasts an impressive list of classics: The Pink Panther films, The Party, Breakfast At Tiffany’s, and Blind Date to name a few. Between 10, S.O.B., and Skin Deep, he was also a hero when it came to convincing hot actresses to do topless scenes.

It was his work with Peter Sellers that had the biggest impact on me. Especially The Party. If you haven’t seen that, I’ll loan you my copy. I just need your to hold your favorite thing as collateral. (LA Times)

Beloved comic actor Leslie Nielsen has passed away at the age of 84. He is best known for his roles in hysterical spoof films as well as Scary Movie 4. It was his work as the incompetent Lt. Frank Drebin in The Naked Gun series of films that cemented his status as a legend. Though he got his start sixty years ago in dramatic roles, it was his deadpan delivery in the over-the-top comedies that garnered him fans from all over the world.

His agent confirmed that the actor passed away surrounded by his wife and friends due to complications of pneumonia early Sunday evening. Screen Junkies extends our deepest condolences. We’ve truly lost one of the greats.

More bleak news to report as this week has claimed another celebrity. In addition to Gloria Stuart, Sally Menke, and Greg Giraldo, Hollywood legend Tony Curtis has also passed. Best known for his roles in Spartacus, Some Like It Hot, Sweet Smell Of Success, The Defiant Ones, and The Bad New Bears Go To Japan, Curtis proved himself an effortless performer in both drama and comedy. Then there was Lobster Man From Mars.

A representative for daughter Jamie Lee Curtis confirmed the news of his passing this morning. He was 85. (ET)

Sad news today that the Facebook-neglected Golden Girl Rue McClanahan passed away after suffering a massive stroke. She is of course best known for her role as O.G. Cougar Blanche Devereaux. We’re sad to see her go but would like to celebrate her for what she did best: partying on Cat Mountain.

Peter Graves has sailed to that big Turkish prison in the sky.

The veteran television and film star has passed away at the age of 83. Fans will recognize Graves for his various roles in over 70 films and television projects. Following a career in radio, Graves moved to Hollywood and eventually landed the role of Jim Phelps in Mission: Impossible. More recently, Graves won an Emmy as the host of Biography.

Though Graves left his biggest impression on the world for his memorable role in Airplane! As Captain Oveur he became a comedy hero, with his untoward questions for a young passenger. Peter Graves will be truly missed and his death serves as a reminder that Leslie Nielsen is not imperishable. When that old fart goes, I will be inconsolable.

The more slurry half of the Coreys has passed away. Corey Haim was found dead this morning after an apparent overdose of prescription drugs. TMZ reports that he collapsed in front of his mother just before 1 AM and was reported dead a little over an hour later after being rushed to the hospital.

Haim rose to fame as a 1980′s teen heartthob in such films as Silver Bullet, Lucas, The Lost Boys, License to Drive, and Dream a Little Dream. Problems with drug addiction led to a career spiral though he is said to have rehabilitated himself in 2004. He was seen most recently in A&E’s The Two Coreys and Crank: High Voltage. He was 38. (TMZ)
