Captain America: The First Avenger is busy shooting on the streets of Manchester, and the Internet has gone mad over this exciting behind-the-scenes video. In the clip, director Joe Johnston demonstrates why he is considered a master, expertly guiding his actor, Chris Evans, as they film a pivotal scene.
No need for me to oversell it. Sit back and enjoy this rare glimpse of movie magic. (/Film)

ScreenJunkies caught up with Stanley Tucci at the press junket for Easy A. When not answering questions about the works of Nathaniel Hawthorne or how good Emma Stone smells, the Tooch talked a bit about his role as Dr. Erskine in Marvel's Captain America.
Yeah, I don't look like that character as drawn originally. The character as drawn originally is a very big, sort of square-headed, square-shouldered guy with a big white moustache and a huge thing of hair. I don't look like that. We chose to, I have a scruffy beard that we grayed even more than mine is gray, and like white hair here [above the ears], sort of longish and then glasses and a German accent.
In other words, something like this:
If you listen closely, you can hear Christopher Lloyd firing his agent off in the distance.
So basically the Comic-Con teaser posters for Captain America and Thor are awesome. If the films are half as awesome as these gritty, realistic conceptual depictions by artist Ryan Meinerding we're in for an awesome treat.
Look at Captain America up there, deflecting those bullets with his massive patriotic shield. He looks furious and hungry enough to eat a Nazi's face for lunch. Please Joe Johnston, dangle this poster in front of your face for inspiration as you direct the film. If Joel Schumacher would have done such a thing, the bat suit never would have been altered with nipples.
Check out larger versions of the posters after the jump…
It's official: Dominic Cooper will play Howard Stark in the upcoming 'Captain America' film. Although rumors have been circulating about Cooper's involvement since May, Marvel did not send the official press release until yesterday. It's kind of like how you know your girlfriend is going to leave you for that guy at the gym, but she hasn't yet packed up her stuff. As I wrote in May, Howard Stark is a Howard Hughes-esq inventor and the founder of Stark Industries, the company later inherited by his son Tony (a.k.a. Iron Man). Assuming no one has changed the Wikipedia page from which I grabbed it, that information should still be accurate. (Collider)
"Not now, ScreenJunkies."News broke today that Stanley Tucci will break out the ol' mustache and wear an Albert Einstein costume and appear in Captain America: The First Avenger. In the film he will play Dr. Abraham Erskine, Captain America's dad. Well, not his biological dad but the scientist who creates him. Like Pinnochio's Geppetto or Megaman's Dr. Light or Johnny Five's Steve Guttenberg. He'll be joining the previously-cast Chris Evans, Hugo Weaving, Tommy Lee Jones, Hayley Atwell, Dominic Cooper, Toby Jones, Sebastian Stan and Neal McDonough. (THR)
YAAAH-HAAWWW!!!! Pull yerselves up a rock and knock back some apple jack. We've got usselves a casting round-up, and it's gonna be a hog killin' good time.JEREMY RENNER – is in talks to play Hawkeye in Joss Whedon's Avengers. He's previously denied his involvement with the project, but he's ready to talk now that the pieces are falling into place. Will this disclude him from appearing in PT Anderson's The Master? Let's see? Dress up as the Marvel Universe's archery guy or piss off all the Scientologists in Hollywood? Here's a pile of cash and a brochure for archery lessons. (THR)NEAL McDONOUGH – is in talks to play Dum Dum Dugan in Joe Johnston's Captain America. Dugan is a member of the Howling Commandos and Nick Fury's second-in-command. I'd report further but looking at McDonough hurts my eyes. He should really be required to wear a hat in trenchcoat when out in public. Like a ninja turtle. (Deadline)
AICN snagged some very official looking concept images of what Chris Evans could maybe possibly look like as Captain America. Marvel has not yet confirmed their authenticity, so basically they could be you or me, probably you, jerking around on the computer in a basement, surrounded by American flags and Nazi scalps. In which case, I commend you. That's an impressive collection of Nazi scalps.More unofficially official images of Captain America after the jump.
We're getting late word tonight that Captain America: The First Avenger has picked up actor Tommy Lee Jones. The pickup allegedly took place in the bathroom stall of a "superhero bar" where Captain America was trolling for actors.During a recent interview, Actress Hayley Atwell, who co-stars in the film, confirmed that Jones is on board with the project. Although his actual role has not been announced, experts (i.e. my 28-year-old cousin who still lives in my aunt's basement) speculate that Jones will star as General Chester Phillips, the officer who chooses Steve Rogers for the super soldier program. Dork-a-licious! (Coming Soon)
First Showing is reporting that Dominic Cooper has has been brought on to play Howard Stark, the father of Tony Stark (a.k.a. Iron Man) in the upcoming film, Captain America: The First Avenger. Cooper will play a much younger version of the character than was briefly seen in Iron Man 1 and 2.According to my vast knowledge base of comic related information (a.k.a. wikipedia), Howard Stark is a millionaire inventor and the founder of Stark Industries, a weapons company that came to prominence during World War II. Like his son Tony, Howard is a brilliant but flawed character who battles with alcoholism. The character of Howard Stark is supposedly based on eccentric aviation pioneer Howard Hughes. I'm assuming that Cooper has already begun hording jars of his own precious urine in order to get into character.
What is it with people and their five fingers?Toby Jones is in final negotiations to play villain Armin Zola in Captain America: The First Avenger. Title not look familiar? That's because it used to be The First Avenger: Captain America. Give yourself a few days to adjust. Like when your parents got divorced. The British actor is best known for playing Truman Capote in Infamous, Karl Rove in W., and the grocery clerk with a penchant for gun slinging in The Mist. He'll be joining Hugo Weaving, who's already been cast as Red Skull, in an effort to give Captain America a really tough time. Jones' character, Armin Zola, is a scientific genius specializing in genetics and cloning. So don't be surprised when a herd of two-headed sheep stampede an entire city. (/Film)
I hate reporting on stuff that ISN'T happening, but it's a slow news weekend and I thought you could use a picture of some stellar cleavage. Emily Blunt has officially passed on the role of Peggy Carter in Captain America. Most likely she prefers money in exchange for her services, and Marvel is notorious for hating to give up theirs. If they could pay their actors with t-shirts from the swag room they'd jump at the opportunity. Now that Emily is out, Kiera Knightley and Alice Eve are the top contenders. Isn't everyone like sooooo over Knightley yet? I want my Peggy Carter to have some meet on her bones. If Kiera gets any skinner she's going to have to develop a coke habit. Not because she should do drugs, she just needs a cooler explanation than genetics. (/Film)
In all the commotion surrounding just who the frig would be playing The First Avenger: Captain America, we all neglected to needlessly stress out over who would play his plucky sidekick. Today comes word that Gossip Girl's Sebastian Stan will squeeze into Bucky's red tights and strike an arms akimbo pose. He is to Captain America what Robin is to Batman, what Ernie is to Bert, what Samwise is to Frodo, what Bernie Taupin is to Elton John. There have been a few different versions of Bucky in the comic and there is no word yet on how he will be portrayed in the film. You know, except for ridiculously. (THR)
Cheer up, Chris. You're set for life now.The great search is finally over! Marvel and Joe Johnston have found their Captain America. Chris Evans, the guy who wore the whipped cream bikini in Not Another Teen Movie, accepted the coveted role today. They still have to work out all the minor details in what I'm sure is a massive contract, but I can officially say that I don't have to report on this story any longer. Hallelujah!Marvel scoured all of Hollywood to find the right actor to play The First Avenger. Ryan Phillippe was in the running along with Channing Tatum and the guy with the hair from Gossip Girl, but Chris Evans emerged victorious. In your face, pretty boys! They got a pretty boy who can grow a beard for the job. (THR)
Looks like someone sh*t the bed, Phillippe. The never-ending search for Captain America could finally be ending. THR is reporting that the role has been offered to Johnny Storm from The Fantastic Four, a.k.a. Chris Evans:Evans' offer would include starring in up to three "America" movies plus "The Avengers" movies and appearances in several other Marvel movies. While an offer to star in "America" may seem like something you don't have to mull over too long, one possible complication is that Evans is committed to co-starring in the Anna Faris romantic comedy "What's Your Number?" Both are scheduled to shoot this summer. It's understandable why Evans would have a difficult time making this decision. If you read the quote above it says he's scheduled to star in an Anna Faris rom-com. Nope, Captain America seems like too much of a gamble. Fart in the face of the Gods, Evans, so you can have a chance to bang the House Bunny on set. OR ask your agent to get you out of it and BANG ANYONE EVER ALL THE TIME WITH FISTFULS OF COKE-DUSTED CASH. Your choice, really.
It appears the new Captain America has been cast. We're not sure who he is, but it appears when he's not murdering Nazis he enjoys kicking back at Pierhead Restaurant & Bar with Ghostrider, The Flash, Mr. Incredible, The Hulk, and no less than TWO Robins. Superheros should learn to be more secretive about where they go to get sh*tfaced. Google is ALWAYS watching. Heat Vision has posted a list of seven actors believed to be screen testing this week and next for The First Avenger: Captain America. They are Michael Cassidy (Smallville), Patrick Flueger (The 4400), Mike Vogel (She's Out of My League), Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Garret Hedlund (Tron Legacy), and Jim "John Krasinski" from The Office.Okay, but who are the real choices? What? These are them? THESE are them?? These guys. Okay. Well, silly me. I thought you'd cast someone who could carry the film and it's eventual Avengers spin-off. That's my bad. Far be it from me to tell the director of The Wolfman and Jurassic Park III what he should do differently. (THR)
Joe Johnston has been pressin' it up for The Wolfman and he's taking that opportunity to talk about his upcoming Captain America, or The First Avenger: Captain America as it is known by fans of using too many words. Casting hasn't been announced yet but is expected to shortly. Ryan McPartlin from Chuck said that he read for the part and we're sure most of young Hollywood has as well. Except for the ugly ones naturally.Johnston's biggest announcement so far is that the Red Skull will appear as the main villian in the film, which comes as a shock to no one. To the best of my knowledge, Captain America only has two enemies: Red Skull and that dude with the skull that is red. Johnston also spoke briefly about the framework of the film."We will see the Captain America villain, the main villain, the Red Skull. But it's the origin story. It's how he became Captain America in World War II. There are present-day bookends, but it's his origin story. And we decided you only get one shot at telling an origin story, so you might as well tell it first."Yes. You only get one shot at telling an origin story. Especially for comic book movies. Unless of course we're talking about The Hulk, The Punisher, The Fantastic Four, Daredevil, or Spider-Man. Otherwise, you only get one shot. Oh yeah, also Batman. (HitFix)
