Canada has yet to apologize for Justin Bieber.

Not content to simply dress as Psy for Halloween, Lena Dunham has courted controversy by recommending a costume via Twitter. It all began when Mindy Kaling tweeted Dunham suggesting that she, Kaling, and B.J. Novak dress as the West Memphis Three. Dunham responded that Kaling and Novak should dress as Canadian rapists and murderers Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka, adding: ‘I’ll be her sister they murdered. Scariest! Luv U,’ referring to 15-year-old Tammy Homokla.

Her Canadian followers (including those that knew victims of the couple) voiced their offense and Dunham quickly apologized with the following tweets.

‘I obviously don’t find rape or murder funny, rather the concept of a trio of hapless people in poor taste Halloween costumes,’

Sounds like a fun party. We’re obscure early 90′s Canadian murderer/rapists and their teen victim. You’ve probably never heard of them.

‘Generally not a proponent of apologizing for one’s work but that tweet wasn’t my work — it was as throwaway as most 140 character thoughts.’

So…. that’s an apology?

‘Obviously didn’t understand what a painful part of the Canadian identity the Bernardo/Homolka case was. Saw a TV movie w/ Laura Prepon,’

Don’t drag Laura into this.

‘Part of the reason I was so concerned is that I’ve always dreamed of retiring to Canada.’

Pinko!

If anything, this serves as a reminder that we all need to be more careful with the thoughts we share in this day and age. And if Lena Dunham is still trying to decide upon a Halloween costume, here’s a suggestion: PANTS.
What happens when a random crime isn't so random after all.

Road Trip and Hustle & Flow actor DJ Qualls got beat up by a Canadian this weekend. As embarrassing as that sounds, in all fairness, it was a cop that attacked Qualls. The alleged beating took place when Qualls (who was in Vancouver to film an episode of Supernatural) witnessed a “multi dude fight” and then “saw a dude punch a girl.” When trying to explain what he witnessed to an arresting officer he was inexplicably threatened and then attacked and handcuffed.

As confusing and needless as this crime seems, perhaps it wasn’t a miscommunication or random chance. Perhaps the officer knew full well who he was attacking and was actually upholding justice… Canadian Justice.

Here are seven potential reasons DJ Qualls may have got his ass beat.

The Cop Also Auditioned For Supernatural

Qualls claims that the officer who beat him repeatedly asked, “You think you’re f***ing better than me?” This leads me to surmise that the officer is also an aspiring actor who has grown jaded and disillusioned by the audition process. He’d probably read for the part on the CW‘s Supernatural and thought he had it in the bag. Then Mr. Hustle & Flow swooped in using his past credits to steal the role out from underneath him.

He Was Mistaken For Joel David Moore

It’s a little known fact, but Joel David Moore actually has 47 warrants out for his arrest in Canada. This all stemmed from an incident at a Toronto Maple Leafs’ game in 2009 where he wouldn’t offer his seat to Dave Foley. I’m told there’s also a hefty reward.

One of E.L.’s Schemes Backfired

E.L. and the guys certainly seem like they know what they’re talking about but then again, they’re only college students. How did they get to become experts? Actually, E.L.’s track record is pretty spotty. Wasn’t it enough when he blew up DJ Qualls’ car? And it’s not the first time he’s caused a fight to break out. Whatever he did to anger the Canadian Mounties must be pretty extreme to prompt a beating like this.

If this happens, I'll never forgive Kevin Spacey.

Oh, fret and bother! Young Canadian eyeballs mustn’t see any untoward images nor should their semi-French ears hear a naughty word. It’s Queen’s rule!!

That’s why Canadian broadcasters are urging to have Netflix Canada forced to abide by the same regulations which they have to work under. That, or money. Yeah, it seems like a money thing.

Now that Netflix is generating their own content, it could be argued that they are a broadcaster. However, regulating Netflix is only a few steps away from regulating the Internet. And what will happen then? Our wives and girlfriends will find our porn is what. Please Canada, I urge you to look into the horny depths of your pervert hearts and call off the hounds. Thank you. Sincerely, American penises. (THR)

If you're living in the United States, you may have never heard of Canada's flagship superhero, Captain Canuck. Well, if certain parties pledging allegiance to our northerly neighbors are to be believed, that might be about to change.

If you’re living in the United States, you may have never heard of Canada‘s flagship superhero, Captain Canuck. Well, if certain parties pledging allegiance to our northerly neighbors are to be believed, that might be about to change. The creator of the independently-published comic recently told the LA Times that he’s in (very polite) talks with a Canadian production company to film a $15 million movie adaptation of the character. In case you’re wondering, the movie would be about a future in which “Canada has become the most powerful country in the world, and their fair land is protected by the red and white spandex of Captain Canuck.” The comic, which debuted in 1975, was set in the year 1993, but it’s safe to assume they’d pick a year that’s actually in the future now. Put your money down on 2025 — that’s a good-sounding year.

It’s been pointed out that getting news about big-screen adaptations from the creators of the comic is notoriously unreliable, so we’ll just have to wait and see if this is really happening. I think having a Canadian counterpart to Captain America is a cool idea, but “Captain Canuck” is kind of a lame name. He sounds like a hockey mascot.
