<description><![CDATA[Even a broken clock is right twice a day. ]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Last night’s <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-lists/screw-it-here-are-our-2013-oscar-predictions/" target="_blank">Oscars</a> ceremony was hardly a triumphant <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/affair/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>affair</a>. It consisted of a <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-lists/heres-why-the-muppets-should-be-hosting-the-oscars-instead-of-billy-crystal/" target="_blank">Catskills comedian</a> emceeing a show made to celebrate largely unpopular films. There were very few moments of interest throughout the program, but since we’re done bitching about the show (we got that out of our system last night), let’s scrounge for the high points in the telecast. Considering how flat the show was, they shouldn’t be too hard to spot.</p>
<h4>The <em>Wizard of Oz</em> Focus Group</h4>
<p><a href="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/wizard-of-oz.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-246271" title="wizard of oz" src="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/wizard-of-oz.jpg" alt="" width="450" height="283" /></a></p>
<p>This bit was a welcome oasis in a desert of Crystaline humor. When they offered the heavy-handed introduction to the skit, I let out a slow audible groan, which was quickly silenced when it became apparent that the troupe tasked with the short were the <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/christopher-guest-195/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Christopher Guest</a> players. I’m guessing Parker Posey was in the hospital or something.</p>
<p>Though the skit wasn’t actually that <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/funny-986/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>funny</a> by CGP standards, the novelty of seeing these guys gave it a big leg up over the things that came before and after it. Plus, seeing Fred Willard harp on monkeys like some sort of speed freak was almost worth the price of admission all by itself.</p>
<h4>Nick Nolte’s Transformation into Rooster Cogburn</h4>
<p><a href="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/nick-nolte.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-246270" title="nick nolte" src="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/nick-nolte.jpg" alt="" width="450" height="297" /></a></p>
<p>One of the best features of Oscar night is your ability to check back in with stars that often manage to stay out of the public eye during their normal lives. For example, Chris Rock. I saw Chris Rock and was surprised by how different he looks. I didn’t see the Ike Turner look coming, so that was a pleasant surprise.</p>
<p>However, Chris Rocks appearance paled in comparison to Nick Nolte’s, who looks like he killed three men on the way to his seat. Also, the slitty little eyes add an element of <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/mystery-779/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>mystery</a> to a guy who is known to take GHB and just be generally crazy. Crystal’s “mind reading” gimmick fell flat, save for his insight into Nolte’s psyche, which only revealed, “Uhhhhhhhhhhhh.” I was half expecting to see Nolte recreationally gnawing on a <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/dead-852/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>dead</a>, intact rabbit, but I guess the camera never caught that part.</p>

<description><![CDATA[Satan is an official household name now.]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Paramount&#8217;s <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/like-crazy-the-devil-inside-now-have-sweet-freedom-to-look-forward-to/" target="_blank"><em>The Devil Inside</em></a> caused film analysts to spit out the water they&#8217;d just <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/taken' target='_blank'>taken</a> a big sip of when it debuted as the first huge hit of <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/2012-728/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>2012</a>. The film (which was made for $34) nabbed the top spot at the <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/actors-directors/box-office-brutes-10-most-famous-hollywood-actors-ever/" target="_blank">box office</a> with an opening of $34 million. That&#8217;s huge! And good news for the creaky, breaking bones lady in the commercial; She&#8217;s certain to be the toast of <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/the-town' target='_blank'>the town</a> now. Can&#8217;t wait to see <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/photos-659/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>photos</a> of her breaking her bones for paparrazi outside da clubs.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s most surprising here is that <em>The <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/devil' target='_blank'>Devil</a> Inside</em> garnered the very rare F rating from a thing called CinemaScore that apparently Joe Q. &#8220;I Wanna See Bones Twist&#8221; Public doesn&#8217;t check in with before buying a movie ticket. That, combined with the impressive <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/box-office-740/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>box office</a>, make the film a surprise hit like the films listed below.</p>
<h4><em>District 9</em></h4>
<p><a href="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/district-9-warning-small.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-241886" title="district-9-warning small" src="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/district-9-warning-small.jpg" alt="" width="450" height="264" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Budget: $30 million</strong> &#8211; <strong>Worldwide box office: $211 million</strong></p>
<p><em>District 9</em> defied expectations when it toppled <em>G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra</em> and <em>The Time Traveler&#8217;s Wife</em> in its first week of release. Very little was known about the film&#8217;s plot, lead, or director when it opened strong. Analysts then anticipated for its revenue to fall off after week one, following <em>Cloverfield&#8217;s</em>example, but great word of mouth and awesome special effects pushed the sci-fi action commentary on to be a global phenomenon.</p>
<h4><em>Slumdog Millionaire</em></h4>
<p><a href="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/slumdog-millionaire-f04-e1326131626963.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-241890" title="slumdog-millionaire-f04" src="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/slumdog-millionaire-f04-e1326131626963.jpg" alt="" width="450" height="299" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Budget: $15 million &#8211; Worldwide box office: $362 million</strong></p>
<p>Starring a cast completely <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/unknown' target='_blank'>unknown</a> to American audiences, the Danny Boyle-directed film became the darling of <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/shows/the-academy-awards' target='_blank'>the Academy Awards</a> after its release in 2008. When the critics began to notice the film, the film then opened wide reaping a huge box office and making a household name out of Virendra Chatterjee.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>After sharting her way into our hearts, <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-review/sxsw-review-bridesmaids-work-print/" target="_blank"><em>Bridesmaids&#8217;</em></a> breakout star <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/melissa-mccarthy-reveals-that-she-was-channeling-guy-fieri-in-bridesmaids/" target="_blank">Melissa McCarthy</a> is on a roll. The recent <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/emmy-683/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Emmy</a> winner is in talks to set up her own <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/script/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>script</a>, <em>Tammy</em>, at <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/new-line-874/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>New Line</a>. The story would follow McCarthy&#8217;s Tammy as she embarks on a journey of self-discovery&#8230;. with her tag-along grandmother.</p>
<p>Expect to see a lot more McCarthy in the next few years as she swiftly climbs the Hollywood A-list. If Tammy production can get underway before <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/betty-white-683/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Betty White</a> retires, they&#8217;ve got a bonafide hit on their hands. <description><![CDATA[But he's being mysterious.]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em>Bridesmaids</em> was a film that kept us laughing from beginning to end and the two unexpected highlights of the film weren&#8217;t <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/kristen-wiig-45/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Kristen Wiig</a> making wacky noises or Kristen Wiig making a lazy eye face. Instead, they were <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/melissa-mccarthy-reveals-that-she-was-channeling-guy-fieri-in-bridesmaids/" target="_blank">Melissa McCarthy</a> and <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/jon-hamm-is-smooth-in-bridesmaids-international-trailer/" target="_blank">Jon Hamm</a>. This morning there was news that director <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/paul' target='_blank'>Paul</a> Feig wanted to call upon his all-stars again for another project. <a href="http://www.moviehole.net/201142195-exclusive-feig-on-the-hammmccarthy-movie-rumour" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Moviehole</a> caught up with Feig, who was surprised to hear that the news had broken.</p>
<blockquote><p>“It was one of those things where I was like ‘Oh, that wasn’t supposed to come out’ but I’m kinda glad it did; I’ve been secretive about it the past few months but I guess I’ve dropped enough hints too. It’s a real passion project; again, I just want to tell stories that don’t normally get told and this is another of those.”</p>
<p>“They’re the <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/inspiration/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>inspiration</a> for it”, Feig says of Hamm and McCarthy, adding that the film would be a “very unconventional <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/love-story/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>love story</a>, in the vein of <em>[Bridesmaids</em>]. Judd and I have a very specific storytelling style – it’s very real and out of the reality we’ll try to make it as funny as possible. I’m excited about that.”</p>
<p>How long away is this prospective Hamm/McCarthy movie? “I’m just writing it at the moment”, the filmmaker says, “There’s actually something in the Fall that…is a sequel to a movie that people know but I can’t really talk about it yet; we’re still trying to finalize it. That would be fun. It’s something I’ve wanted to with some actors I’ve wanted to work with.”</p>
<p>“This would be a reboot of a franchise. I want to talk about it but it might not happen because of actors deals and so on so I better remain mysterious.”</p></blockquote>
<p>Ummmm&#8230;. my guess is <em>Ghostbusters</em>. Or something else entirely. Yeah, let&#8217;s go with something else entirely.(<a href="http://www.moviehole.net/201142195-exclusive-feig-on-the-hammmccarthy-movie-rumour" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Moviehole</a>)</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/the-spirit' target='_blank'>the spirit</a> of the studio system, the team behind a successful project is being preemptively reunited to do &#8220;that same thing again, but, you know&#8230;different.&#8221;</p>
<p>After <em>Bridesmaids&#8217;</em> monster take at <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/the-box' target='_blank'>the box</a> office this May, Universal has reunited director <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/paul' target='_blank'>Paul</a> Feig and producer/director/writer/man-child <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/judd-apatow-talks-pee-wee-herman-movie-and-knocked-up-spinoff/" target="_blank">Judd Apatow</a> by purchasing a pitch from their camp. Of course, the studio refuses to deliver the log line, but <a href="http://www.deadline.com/2011/06/bridesmaids-duo-paul-feig-and-judd-apatow-at-altar-on-new-universal-comedy/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Deadline</a> informs us it&#8217;s an &#8220;unconventional <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/love-story/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>love story</a> and is something Feig has been working on for awhile.&#8221; Wow! Consider my appetite whetted!</p>
<p>This duo has worked together since &#8220;<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/freaks/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Freaks</a> and <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/geeks/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Geeks</a>&#8221; way back in the <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/1990s/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>1990&#8242;s</a>, and their bodies of work, both individually and as a team are pretty solid, so get excited about this project, if only because this <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/reunion-43/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>reunion</a> might mean an original new comedy from two bright minds, as opposed to a stale retread, similar to <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/hangover-2-tattoo-has-legal-clearance-release-date-unchanged/" target="_blank">that other May release</a>.</p>

<div id='post_in_video' class='post_in_video'><a class='img' href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/melissa-mccarthy-reveals-that-she-was-channeling-guy-fieri-in-bridesmaids/' title='Melissa McCarthy Reveals That She Was Channeling Guy Fieri In 'Bridesmaids''><span></span><img width='200' height='150' src='http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/mccarthy-fieri-220x165.jpg'></a><h3><a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/melissa-mccarthy-reveals-that-she-was-channeling-guy-fieri-in-bridesmaids/'>Melissa McCarthy Reveals That She Was Channeling Guy Fieri In 'Bridesmaids'</a></h3></div><br />
That&#8217;s why I&#8217;m excited to share the video above from <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/Video/the-monopoly-movie-trailer-is-somewhat-here/" target="_blank">Funny or Die</a>, which is a compilation of unused takes from the movie. It&#8217;s rapid fire improvs/cut lines from <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/Video/jon-hamms-soup-is-done-in-bridesmaids-red-band-trailer/" target="_blank">Jon Hamm</a>, <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/melissa-mccarthy/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Melissa McCarthy</a>, plus the eventually underused <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/ellie-kemper-241/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Ellie Kemper</a> and Wendi McLendon-Covey. I especially lol&#8217;d at the Hamm sex bookends, where things get wackier than in the original cut. I like wackier <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/jon-hamm-941/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Jon Hamm</a>. The guy has gravitas to spare, so let him make a butt cheeks joke every once in awhile, <em"<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/shows/mad-men' target='_blank'>Mad Men</a>.&#8221;</em></p>

<description><![CDATA[It all makes so much sense.]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It all makes so much sense. <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/melissa-mccarthy/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Melissa McCarthy</a> is enjoying some success thanks to her show-stealing turn as the oddball Megan in <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/Video/jon-hamm-is-smooth-in-bridesmaids-international-trailer/" target="_blank"><em>Bridesmaids</em></a>. The character kept people laughing with tales of her connection to dolphins who saved her after a cruise ship messed up her shit and her off-kilter personal style. She told <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/conan-obriens-60-minutes-interview/" target="_blank">Conan</a> last night that personal style was inspired by someone we all know.</p>
<blockquote><p>&#8220;Really, when I first read it, the first person that I thought of was Guy Fieri from the <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/food-network/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Food Network</a>. I wanted to do the shirt, the Kangol. Every scene I would have my glasses on the back of my head. I tried for a long time to convince them to let me wear short, white, spiky hair, and they were like, &#8216;You can&#8217;t actually <em>be</em> Guy Fieri.&#8217; Cut it off at some point!&#8221;</p></blockquote>
<p>Now that she&#8217;s pointed out the influence, it&#8217;s spot-on. I&#8217;d say we should get these two in a room together, but if they were to touch it could <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/rip/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>rip</a> the fabric of space and time. And I personally refuse to <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/travel/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>travel</a> back to a time before Panera Bread. <content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Box office analysts are shocked at the news that <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-review/sxsw-review-bridesmaids-work-print/" target="_blank"><em>Bridesmaids</em></a>, a Judd <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/apatow-112/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Apatow</a> comedy starring <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/kristen-wiig-45/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Kristen Wiig</a>, <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/maya-rudolph/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Maya Rudolph</a>, and a bunch of other females, managed to <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/gross/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>gross</a> a very respectable $24.5 million, putting it at number two for the weekend, right behind feminist icon <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-review/review-thor/" target="_blank"><em>Thor</em></a>, with $34.5 million. Who says women can&#8217;t be funny? No, seriously, who is saying that? I&#8217;ve never heard anyone say that.</p>
<p>The other new release to crack the top five was <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-review/review-priest/" target="_blank"><em>Priest</em></a>, the <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/paul' target='_blank'>Paul</a> Bettany-hunts vampires-in-3D movie, which snagged the number four spot with a weekend gross of $14.5 million.<em <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/fast-five' target='_blank'>Fast Five</a> </em>continued its triumph with a number 3 $19.5 million gross, and <em>Rio </em>continued its reign of terror at number 5, with $8 million. Who says CGI parrots can&#8217;t be funny? (<a href="http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/?view=main&amp;yr=2011&amp;wknd=19&amp;p=.htm" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Box Office Mojo</a>)</p>

<description><![CDATA[In case you didn't think these bridesmaids were rough-and-tumble...they are. This trailer has the ribald language to prove it.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The red-band trailer for <em><a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/Bridesmaids' target='_blank'>Bridesmaids</a>-poster-the-romcom-gods-are-smiling/&#8221; target=&#8221;_blank&#8221;>Bridesmaids</a></em> is not terribly different than the green (mauve?)-band trailer, save for three f-bombs, some scattered &#8220;shits&#8221; (not as <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/gross/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>gross</a> as it sounds), <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/kristen-wiig-45/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Kristen Wiig</a> in a bra, and a reference to a fat lady&#8217;s undercarriage.</p>
<p>Other than that, we&#8217;re still rocking ladies with gas, fat chick talking about fight clubs, and a bunch of other instances of girls acting like guys, only girlier.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s also some shots of <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/Video/jon-hamm-is-smooth-in-bridesmaids-international-trailer/" target="_blank">Jon Hamm</a>, mid-coitus, which you should find just delightful, regardless of your sexual orientation. He also says &#8220;soup&#8217;s done&#8221; in a reference to reaching climax, which I have never heard before, and hope to never hear again.</p>
<p><a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/bridesmaids' target='_blank'>Bridesmaids</a> will completely eff with your sensibilities, in a charming, middle-America way on May 13th.</p>

<description><![CDATA[I find his attitude refreshingly European.]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/Video/apatow-lifts-the-veil-on-bridesmaids-trailer/" target="_blank"><em>Bridesmaids</em></a> isn&#8217;t through trying to convince you that it&#8217;s actually secretly funny. A new <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/international-trailer-532/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>international trailer</a> has begun to swim its way across the pond and this one plays to <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/jon-hamm-too-close-to-death-to-play-superman/" target="_blank">Jon Hamm</a>&#8216;s strengths&#8230; being a total dick to women.</p>
<p>In this trailer, we see Hamm do his careful best to dismiss <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/kristen-wiig-45/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Kristen Wiig</a> after a night of hot, steamy, bra-on sex (Hollywood&#8217;s favorite kind). But we shouldn&#8217;t <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/rush/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>rush</a> to judge. Perhaps he just needs to fart really badly. Sometimes that happens to fellas. Especially if they aren&#8217;t careful about what they eat the night before. Damn you, Nestle Flipz!!</p>

<description><![CDATA[Brush up on their projects. ]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/Paul' target='_blank'>Paul</a>-movie-still.jpg&#8221;><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-201198" title="paul-movie-still" src="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/paul-movie-still.jpg" alt='' width="550" height="315" /></a></p>
<p>SXSW screened <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-review/sxsw-review-paul/" target="_blank"><em>Paul</em></a> and <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-review/sxsw-review-<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/Bridesmaids' target='_blank'>Bridesmaids</a>-work-print/&#8221; target=&#8221;_blank&#8221;><em>Bridesmaids</em></a> as a double bill because Kristin Wiig is in both and Universal released both. So the stars and filmmakers of both films walked the red carpet in Austin, TX outside the Paramount theater.</p>
<p>In <em>Paul</em>, Kristin Wiig plays Ruth Buggs, a trailer park owner who gets a glimpse at the alien in Graeme (Simon Pegg) and Clive (Nick Frost)’s trailer. With her Christian creationist world shattered, Ruth takes every opportunity to swear along the road. <em>Bridesmaids</em> stars Wiig as a maid of honor in crazy wedding shenanigans.</p>
<p>Q: Did you enjoy playing this silly swearing girl?</p>
<p>Kristen Wiig: No… [pretends to walk away] I’m just kidding. What if I did that? It’d be horrible. Yes, oh my God, it was so nice to have them write a character that had that trait and someone that went through such a crazy transformation after seeing an alien.</p>
<p>Q: Is the reason it’s funny that it’s her first time, this awakening of her?</p>
<p>KW: Yes, first time seeing an alien as opposed to other people who’ve been revisited.</p>
<p>Q: I think it’s her first time swearing, because she was so devoutly religious before.</p>
<p>KW: Oh, first time swearing, yes, because she thought that was sinning and then when she sees the alien, she comes to the conclusion: well, maybe if there’s an alien, there’s no god and there’s no sinning, I can do whatever I want.</p>
<p>Q: What will we see in <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/bridesmaids' target='_blank'>Bridesmaids</a>?</p>
<p>KW: There’s no aliens that I can tell you about. I’m really excited. Judd <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/apatow-112/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Apatow</a> produced it and <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/paul' target='_blank'>Paul</a> Feig directed it. I co-wrote it with my friend Annie. There’s a lot of funny ladies in it.</p>
<p>Q: When you’re writing a character for yourself, what sort of vehicle do you want to create?</p>
<p>KW: I tried not to think of myself playing it so much when we wrote it because I didn’t want to cloud how I was writing the character that much. I just wanted to write something that made sense and had a lot of good parts for females.</p>
<p>Q: Do you have a unique take on the bridesmaid phenomenon?</p>
<p>KW: Well, you’ll have to see the movie.</p>
<p><a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/simon-pegg-89/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Simon Pegg</a> plays Graeme, a sci-fi artist and Comic-Con fan who meets the real alien, Paul. He co-wrote the script with Frost and loaded it with references to our favorite mutual <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/sci-fi-movies-603/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>sci-fi movies</a>. He was cagey about Mission: Impossible IV which he’s already shot and A World’s End which he’s writing with <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/edgar-wright-952/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Edgar Wright</a>, but actually had more to say about <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/star-trek-724/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Star Trek</a> 2 which doesn’t exist in any form yet.</p>
<p>Q: Are we seeing your comedy grou <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/break' target='_blank'>break</a> up into different combinations, like we saw the Pythons do where some of them did A Fish Called Wanda but not the whole troupe?</p>
<p>Simon Pegg: Yeah, I guess. I don’t know what our comedy team is. The Pythons were a unit that came out of a comedy troupe from university whereas we’ve all met at different times. I think we can probably split up with less obviousness. Nick and I have worked together a lot because we’re best mates and probably will continue to do so because it’s a way we can hang out. But I really want to work with people like Kristin and Bill [Hader] and Jason [Bateman] and those guys. I love them so it’s a treat to be able to.</p>
<p>Q: But you, Nick and Edgar are a group.</p>
<p>SP: Well, Edgar had developed <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/scott-pilgrim-936/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Scott Pilgrim</a> and we knew that we wouldn’t be doing that with him because it was a separate project. Paul was a separate project from Edgar so we always were going to go off and do our own little side projects and come back together again.</p>
<p>Q: What is the obsession with a three breasted woman?</p>
<p>SP: It’s just one more, isn’t it, than you should have. I think it’s one of those sort of slightly lame sort of sci-fi clichés, that guys would think one more would be somehow better than too. It’s odd.</p>
<p>Q: Even in Total Recall he said he wished he had three hands. But we don’t.</p>
<p>SP: I think Jo LoTruglio says, “You should’ve given her four” which then becomes, I say, sick.</p>
<p>Q: I love that you were so decisive about it.</p>
<p>SP: Well, then you become some sort of wolfmother. It’s just weird. Three’s good, four is terrible. It’s the old saying, isn’t it?</p>
<p>Q: We do love the collaborations between you, Nick and Edgar. Is A World’s End your take on the apocalypse genre?</p>
<p>SP: No, it’s nothing yet. It’s just a title that we’ve thrown out there to shut people up.</p>
<p>Q: When do you actually get to start working on that?</p>
<p>SP: Hopefully in the next couple of months we’ll start writing it. It’s just a question of getting together.</p>
<p>Q: Do you get cool stuff to do in Mission: Impossible IV?</p>
<p>SP: Yes, I do. That’s all I can say.</p>
<p>Q: Obviously Scotty was the last one to join the crew in Star Trek. Obviously you don’t know what the next script will be yet but are you excited to be there from the beginning?</p>
<p>SP: Absolutely. I can’t wait. It’s a great crew. We all got on very well and I can’t wait to get back into that thing of getting to know each other. I think they’ll pick up the story from where we left off and we’ve all only just met so there’s a lot of mileage I would imagine dramatically in us all sort of getting to know each other.</p>
<p><a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/paul-feig-913/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Paul Feig</a> was a regular director on “Arrested Development” and he still does major TV shows like “Nurse Jackie” and “The Office.” <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/bridesmaids/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Bridesmaids</a> is his second movie, and he’s technically not done making it yet.</p>
<p>Q: What are we going to get to see tonight in Bridesmaids?</p>
<p>Paul Feig: You’re going to see everything. They’re calling it a work in progress but really it’s all locked. It’s just we haven’t done the sound mix or the color timing on it yet but it’s a big funny comedy that’s about women but is not just for women. We really worked hard to just make it funny for everybody but it’s a very grounded emotional story about a woman whose life is falling apart. This event just speeds that along but it allows her to rebuild herself to a better place.</p>
<p>Q: A lot of wedding movies are about “this is all crazy, but you should still do it everyone, everyone still have big weddings.” What’s the worldview of your movie?</p>
<p>PF: For us, honestly the wedding is just a conduit to tell the story of a woman who’s having problems with her best friend. It’s much less about the wedding and more about how important your friends are to you. The wedding allows it to be the ticking clock that moves it forward but at the end of the day, it’s really about friendship.</p>
<p>Q: What will be the standout comic set pieces?</p>
<p>PF: Oh, you will definitely be talking about the dress shop, I guarantee you that. You’ll be talking about the airplane, I guarantee you that and about Annie trying to get the cop’s attention at the end of the movie.</p>
<p>Q: Do you have a great trying on dresses <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/montage-855/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>montage</a>?</p>
<p>PF: Well, we do but we’ve subverted it a little bit so you’ll go into it thinking you know what’s going to happen and then you will be very pleasantly surprised.</p>
<p>Q: Will Julia Roberts be pissed at you?</p>
<p>PF: That’s my goal. That is my goal. Hopefully she will say, “Yes, ah, why didn’t I think of that?”</p>
<p>Paul is in theaters now. Bridesmaids hits May 13.</p>

However, as <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/paula-abdul/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Paula Abdul</a> and a cartoon cat instruct us: opposites attract.</p>
<p>On the set of the Feig directed <em><a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-review/sxsw-review-bridesmaids-work-print/">Bridesmaids</a></em>, he hit it off with Hamm. Now the two are working on some kinda top-secret-for-now project. Comedy nerds, start heaping tons of praise on this project right now. Speaking of &#8220;comedy nerds,&#8221; that&#8217;s how Feig described Hamm in a recent interview:</p>
<blockquote><p>“[Hamm] is such a comedy <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/nerd/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>nerd</a>. He will quote lines from <em>Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy</em>. You’re quoting something even I can’t quote! He’s always wanted to do comedy. One of the next things I’m developing a project for him to star in. I think he’s so funny. He’s like <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/cary-grant/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Cary Grant</a> to me.”</p></blockquote>
<p>It&#8217;s pretty awesome that <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/jon-hamm-941/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Jon Hamm</a> loves <em>Brain Candy</em>. If I was passing him on the street and said &#8220;cat on my head,&#8221; he might yell &#8220;cat on my head&#8221; back at me, rather than give me a freaked-out glare and walk in the other direction. I guess you can&#8217;t judge a nerdy book by it&#8217;s handsome cover. (<a href="http://collider.com/paul-feig-jon-hamm-project/80781/" rel="nofollow">Collider</a>)</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A new <em>Bridesmaids</em> trailer is up, and it appears to give away a LOT of gags in the film. Maybe all of them. If you had any preconceived notions of what <em>Bridesmaids</em> is going to be, this trailer will likely reinforce them. It&#8217;s an <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/apatow-112/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Apatow</a> film about girls with slightly more gross-out humor than you would expect. &#8216;Cause normally it&#8217;s guys that are <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/gross/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>gross</a>, get it?</p>
<p>If you&#8217;re the type of person that enjoys watching people suffer from food poisoning in fancy environments, you will love this trailer. If you don&#8217;t, who knows&#8230;you might still like it. <description><![CDATA[Follows the same plot as all “outrageous wedding” movies.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/bridesmaids' target='_blank'>bridesmaids</a>-movie-gals.jpg&#8221;><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-201447" title="bridesmaids-movie-gals" src="http://cdn2.screenjunkies.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/bridesmaids-movie-gals.jpg" alt='' width="600" height="<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/300/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>300</a>&#8221; /></a></p>
<p>The work print screening of <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/Video/apatow-lifts-the-veil-on-bridesmaids-trailer/" target="_blank"><em>Bridesmaids</em></a> played well at <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/sxsw-504/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>SXSW</a>, but I wasn’t into it. It’s actually the first movie of the festival I haven’t liked, so it probably feels like a harsher letdown.</p>
<p>It opens funny with <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/annie/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Annie</a> (<a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/how-to-train-your-dragon-actress-kristen-wiig/" target="_blank">Kristin Wiig</a>) having outrageous sex with Ted (Jon Hamm). Annie speaks in the stream of consciousness rambling that Wiig peppers with humor each time she adds a phrase. Once her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) gets engaged, it becomes the typical wedding movie.</p>
<p>All the other <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/bridesmaids/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>bridesmaids</a> are contrived one-dimensional types. Rita (Wendi McLendon-Covey) complains about her obnoxious sons and husband.  Becca (Ellie Kemper) is the lovey dovey newlywed. Megan is a butch type. Helen (Rose Byrne) is just so perfect it drives Annie crazy.</p>
<p>Wiig pretty much stops doing the Kristin Wiig thing in order to serve a generic, clichéd plot. She does a dance when Officer Rhodes pulls her over but stops the random phrases and tones down the physicality, so you don’t get a Kristin Wiig movie after all.</p>
<p>The big problem with the premise is that jealousy is not funny. Helen outshines Annie’s wedding plans and the film follows the same plot as all “outrageous wedding” movies. At the engagement toast, the dress fittings, the <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/bachelorette/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>bachelorette</a> party and bridal shower, Helen comes up with crazy plans that take over Annie’s sincere ones.</p>
<p>Helen’s manipulative usurping isn’t funny though. She has connections to a fancy dress shop. She wants to take the girls to Las Vegas. She has a fancy mansion with a fondue fountain. The only joke is that Annie is insecure that Helen’s more superficially impressive than she is.</p>
<p><em>Bridesmaids </em>might coast if it was just generic, but it drags out so long it forces you to work it out. Directo <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/films/paul' target='_blank'>Paul</a> Feig said that “work print” only meant they had color timing and sound issues to polish. He should really consider taking 30 minutes out, because there’s so much plot. At a certain point you realize while Annie’s working out her relationship with Office Rhodes, hey, they still have to have a wedding to wrap this sucker up.</p>
<p>I like Kristin Wiig a lot. I think her physicality is phenomenal and her attitude is sweet. She doesn’t seem to make jokes at anyone’s expense. She just enjoys being silly. <em>Bridesmaids </em>doesn’t feel like her, and she wrote it herself!</p>

<description><![CDATA[The first trailer for Judd Apatow's first foray into "you go, girl," comedy is here.]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align: center;">
<p style="text-align: left;">Judd Apatow&#8217;s first foray into &#8220;you go, girl!,&#8221; comedy <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/bridesmaids-poster-the-romcom-gods-are-smiling/" target="_blank"><em>Bridesmaids</em></a> has its first trailer and it looks&#8230; okay. <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/kristen-wiig-45/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Kristen Wiig</a> has proven her comedic chops with her roles in <em>The 40-Year Old Virgin</em> and <em>MacGruber</em> and by making repetitive noises on &#8220;SNL.&#8221; I&#8217;m happy to see her stepping into the lead.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">The supporting cast looks funny too. You&#8217;ve got the fat one, the neurotic one, the horny one, and the bitch. Just like at your office. More importantly though, this trailer features what every trailer should &#8212; tuxedo-clad yawning puppies. Can we re-do the DGA Awards?</p>

<description><![CDATA[A female driven romantic comedy produced by Judd Apatow? Is hell freezing over? Is it 2012 yet? No, it's just time for 'Bridesmaids', a new film written by and starring SNL's Kristin Wiig.]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>A female driven romantic comedy produced by <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/judd-apatow-cries-about-ricky-gervais-to-twitter/">Judd Apatow</a>? Is hell freezing over? Is it 2012 yet? No, it&#8217;s just time for <em>Bridesmaids</em>, a new film written by and starring SNL&#8217;s Kristin Wiig to be unleashed upon us all. Are we ready? I think so. The pedigree, from writer/actor Wiig, to <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/maya-rudolph/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Maya Rudolph</a>, <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/rose-byrne-207/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Rose Byrne</a>, <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/12-actresses-you-should-know-better/">Ellie Kemper </a>&#8220;<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/shows/the-office' target='_blank'>The Office</a>&#8220;), Wendy McLendon-Covey (&#8220;<a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/reno-911-958/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Reno 911</a>&#8220;), and even <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/jon-hamm-941/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>Jon Hamm</a>, is strong, and the film&#8217;s been getting great reviews in advanced screenings. The poster, below, looks like primed and ready to mop the floor with <em>Valentine&#8217;s Day</em>, <em>Bride Wars</em>, <em>Leap Year</em>, or any other steaming pile of <a href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/tag/romcom/' class='linkify' target='_blank'>romcom</a> bullshit that came out in the last five years. <em>Bridesmaids</em> is out May 13, 2011.
