It was going to be one of the most ambitious projects eve taken on by a major studio. A mammoth adaptation of Stephen King‘s Dark Tower series, directed by Ron Howard and spanning three theatrical movies and two seasons of TV. Then, it was reported that the studio behind this project, Universal, was no longer interested. Now, in a stunning twist, they ARE interested, but only on a version that doesn’t cost so much.

So director Ron Howard, producer Brian Grazer, and screenwriter Akiva Goldsman are “regrouping” in order to figure out how to do adapt The Dark Tower, but cheaper. It’s not known yet what exactly this will entail, or whether or not this means Javier Bardem is still involved. A free money-saving tip to Ron Howard and co: Eat at Subway.
