‘Lincoln Lawyer’ Director Telling The Tale Of Pablo Escobar

In a project that is being hailed as “the Latino Godfather” (which, coincidentally was my nickname in grade school), The Lincoln Lawyer helmer Brad Furman has attached himself to a film on the reign of Pablo Escobar. Producer Scott Steindorff has said it will be as much about war as it will be about crime, an allusion to the cartel that had a paramilitary presence in Bogota for most of Escobar’s time at the top.

This project appears to have rallied ahead of the now-on-hold Killing Pablo adaptation, as well as Oliver Stone‘s Escobar. The source material isn’t known at this time, but Matt Aldrich has been hired to pen the screenplay. Aldrich has recently become a hot property with the bidding war his most recent script, Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses caused a few months back.

Let’s just hope this film shows this ruthless drug boss the respect he so mercilessly killed to obtain.

Darren Aronofsky Back In The Drug Game

Director Darren Aronofsky got the attention of everyone in Hollywood with his second movie Requiem for a Dream, which provided a harrowing portrait of drug addiction (“it was about drugs,” in case you don’t speak blurb). Now Aronofsky is going back to that well, but as a producer instead of a director.

The project is called Intricate, based on a true story about a college basketball recruit who becomes involved in the 1990s New York drug trade. The film already has a director too, in Brad Furman of the upcoming The Lincoln Lawyer. I wouldn’t get my hopes up for any “ass to ass” scenes, but you never know.

This sounds like it would be pretty good to me – the last movie I saw that Aronofsky produced was The Fighter, and that was one of the best movies of last year. Also, I’m a sucker for one-word titles. (via LA Times)

McConaughey Hates Offices In New ‘Lincoln Lawyer’ Trailer

In this second trailer for The Lincoln Lawyer, Matthew McConaughey plays the finest car-based defender that money can buy. This time around we get an inkling more about the film’s plot and an answer to the important question, “Why a car?” The answer is simple: because offices suck.

McConaughey gets the case of his career when he’s hired to clear Ryan Phillippe after he’s been accused of imitating Charlie Sheen. However, as McConaughey learns, the golden boy isn’t as innocent as he seems. I love how the courtroom scene will undoubtedly play out.

McConaughey: “You need to confess.”

Phillippe: “No.”

McConaughey: “It would be a lot cooler if you did.”

Judge: “Case closed.”

Bailiff cues up Rupert Holmes song and everyone parties in the court room.
