We haven’t seen Matt Damon get mad at anybody since he showed Minnie Driver‘s phone number to Viggo the Carpathian. But now he’s showing animosity toward The Bournce Legacy writer and director Tony Gilroy. He hasn’t been shy about disliking Gilroy’s work and claiming allegiance to dismissed director Paul Greengrass. Gilroy and Greengrass have very different styles and, in fact, Gilroy refuses to be in a room with Greengrass. I know, what a bitch!

But now there are reports that this anger might end any of Damon’s participation in a continuation of the series.

“I think if [Bourne Legacy] doesn’t work, we can just ignore it and pretend it didn’t happen, and that’d be fine,” Damon said. “But I expect that it will work and only help us if we did another one, which I’d love to do.”

“At the end of the day, it’s between me and Tony, and we’ll figure it out or we won’t.”

How do you like those apples? (The Playlist)

It’s Joel Edgerton’s Turn To Be Rumored For ‘Bourne’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/its-joel-edgertons-turn-to-be-rumored-for-bourne/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/its-joel-edgertons-turn-to-be-rumored-for-bourne/#comments Thu, 21 Apr 2011 21:12:07 +0000 Penn Collins http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=208231 Director Tony Gilroy and Universal think this truck driver could make a decent 'Bourne' lead.

The producers of Bourne realized that if they wanted to include every actor in Hollywood in the rebooted Bourne casting rumors, then they couldn’t just focus on the big stars. So right now, the man of the hour is Joel Edgerton. Word on the street is that director Tony Gilroy is lobbying for Edgerton to get the part, but Universal is hesitant for two reasons.

First off, they are worried that his name doesn’t hold enough weight (yet) to carry such a franchise. Secondly, they like Edgerton for the seemingly toxic role of the Huntsman in Snow White and the Huntsman. Apparently they feel he is a big enough name for that role. Or that Kristen Stewarts brand equity will do most of the heavy lifting there.

If this seems too cut and dry, don’t worry. This Vulture piece also bandies about the names McAvoy and LaBeouf. Maybe the new Bourne lead could be played by a host of actors, like that Bob Dylan biopic. Is Cate Blanchett available?

Reports are trickling in, after an exclusive by Latino Review, that Jeremy Renner is about to get the offer to play the lead role (not Jason Bourne) in the next installments of the franchise. This makes sense, after a field that was rumored to include no less than: Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Hedlund, Taylor Kitsch, Kellan Lutz, Joel Edgerton, Josh Hartnett Paul Dano, Michael Pitt, Oscar Isaac, Michael Fassbender, Luke Evans, Alex Pettyfer and Benjamin Walker (via Playlist) seemed to be a little heavy on the pretty boys. Bourne has always been a slightly grittier take on the genre, so Renner seems to be a good fit, despite his involvement in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Again, this is just an offer, so it’s not known whether Renner will take the role should this story pan out, but it clearly demonstrates that the producers don’t want to venture too far from what made the first three installments work, which is fine by me. Here’s to hoping this pans out and the next Bourne hero isn’t Alex Pettyfer.

Matt Damon stated he would standby Greengrass, and walk from the project as well. Since that time, everyone was curious what would become of the franchise. Recast? Reboot? A prequelization? Is that a word? Today, Gilroy answers the burning question. Matt Damon will not appear in the film, nor will his character be recast. The Bourne Legacy will not feature Jason Bourne whatsoever. Rather, a new agent will be introduced in an effort to expand the Bourne universe and conspiracy. So, like Teen Wolf Too? (Hollywood Elsewhere)

KITCH!! KITCH!!" Last fall, it seemed like the Bourne series was sunk when Paul Greengrass pulled a bitchfit and removed himself and star Matt Damon from a fourth Bourne film. That doesn't seem to bother Universal too much. Despite the fact that he directed Duplicity, they've just hired Tony Gilroy to direct the next chapter. Gilroy, of course, wrote each of the previous films as well as the newest script. Not sure if they plan to use Damon, recast, shoot a prequel, or go the tried-and-true route of using a cardboard cut-out. You really can't tell the difference if you shake the camera around enough.
