Ugh, it's so hard to care.

After being banned from the Academy Awards a few days ago, Cohen has scrambled to issue this video rebuttal, claiming that their would be dire consequences for the Academy if they didn’t give him back his tickets. While the premise is funny, he comes across as a little trigger happy with the puns, which is rarely the hallmark of high comedy.

Based on the trailer for The Dictator, it was a fear that Sacha Baron Cohen was going for something a little less-cerebral than he did with Borat and Bruno. It seemed as though the film was relying a little too hard on caemos and pop-culture references to compete with Cohen’s earlier faux-docs.

It’s still pretty funny, but not what we know to be “Sacha Baron Cohen” funny. Take a look.

We would all feel a lot better if this guy was a fictional character.

Australian Daily Show-type program The Hamster Wheel has taken the same approach their US counterparts have to skewering local, national, and international politicians by sending them up with oblivious reporters and letting the subjects just embarrass themselves.

Sometimes that job is made very, very easy, such as the case with Lord Monckton.

In case you think he doesn’t deserve the treatment, you’re really wrong. He does. Monckton serves as the Independent Party‘s head of research, offering up such gems as “the Hitler Youth started off as liberals,” “climate change is a myth,” and “AIDS sufferers should live on an island somewhere.” He also has really buggy eyes that freak the hell out of me, but that’s not really his fault, so we’ll table that one.

Insisting that someone this over the top and ridiculous can only be a Borat-type manifestation, The Hamster Wheel takes this premise and runs with it, even interviewing Monckton as though he was a character.

Nice and nicely done, Hamster Wheel.

We're gearing up for Movember

The moustache has played an important role throughout cinema history. In the early days of silent film, the facial hair was often used to brand a character as evil. Over time, moustaches found their way onto the faces of movie heroes such as Errol Flynn and Clark Gable. Today, they can still be found on a wide range of characters, but as in the early days, the stache is still used to add an aura of intimidation to characters.

I bet you’re wondering why the hell I’m going on and on about moustaches. Well I’ll tell you why, smart ass. We’re gearing up for Movember, and we’re encouraging our readers to do the same. The rules are easy: Go here and sign up with Break and Movember. Start November 1st clean shaven, then proceed to grow a killer Moustache, all while raising funds for men’s health. Last year, Movember raised $81 million for prostate research, and this year we plan on helping them break that record. So sign up today, and help make a difference.

Then, when you’re done with that, help make a difference in my paycheck by checking out the 9 most intimidating moustaches of all time.

Borat – Borat

Though Borat’s moustache may not be intimidating in the sense of manliness or machismo, I think you’ll find him quite intimidating when he comes at you with a plastic bag full of feces.

Ron Burgundy – Anchorman

Ron Burgundy is the number one local newscaster in 1970′s San Diego and he owes a lot of that to his mythical, Scotch-scented moustache. In addition to “a voice that could make a wolverine purr and suits so fine they” make “Sinatra look like a hobo,” his moustache is also a powerful aphrodisiac. Hairs from his moustache brush are incredibly sought after to be used in love potions and fertility centers around the world. Everything look how good he looks!!

Peter Mitchell – Three Men and a Little Lady

Tom Selleck’s moustache is very different from the intimidators on this list. But that doesn’t mean you should rule it out. There is one category in which it dominates — the ladies. No woman is free to resist the course tufts upon Selleck’s upper-lip, and Nancy Travis’s Sylvia Bennington was no exception. Selleck’s moustache swooped in and stole her away from the altar just as she was about to marry a rich, stuffy but ultimately bald-faced British prick. It’s godly, really.

Hopefully the third time’s a charm for director Larry Charles and Sacha Baron Cohen. Actually, the first two times have already proven to be quite charming, as they consisted of Borat and Bruno. Even so, here’s hoping for a three-peat.

The pair are teaming up again for The Dictator, a film written by Cohen as well as Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Cohen will play both a goat herder and a deposed foreign dictator traveling across the U.S. Will the film pack as many laughs as Borat, or perhaps as many ball-sacks as Bruno? Only time will tell.

Sacha Baron Cohen has signed on to play Queen front man Freddie Mercury in an upcoming biopic, Deadline is reporting. The film will be written by Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen), and will be financed by GK Films, in conjunction with several other companies including Queen Films, which is made up of the surviving members of Queen. Production will begin in 2011.

Will Cohen be able to pull off the flamboyantly gay showman that was Freddie Mercury? Considering his character of Brüno makes Mercury look like Pat Robinson, I'm assuming he'll do just fine. In fact, if my understanding of Mercury is accurate, it will be a lot like the Brüno movie, except instead of being Austrian he'll be British, and instead of having a happy ending he'll die of AIDS. Basically Brüno meets Philadelphia.
