Today comes video evidence that Better Call Saul exists. This ten second teaser shows a pre-Breaking Bad Saul pitching himself to a prospective client. As you can see, he’s not the most efficient salesman. Which means we’ll get to watch the events that turn him into the slickest and slimiest lawyer in town. February has never felt further away.

Along I-25 in Albuquerque, keep an eye out for an innocuous-looking billboard that features a sharp, scrappy lawyer named James McGill. Mr. McGill, as Breaking Bad lore has it, will eventually become Saul Goodman, the shady lawyer that manages to insert himself into the biggest meth operation in the American southwest. This billboard comes up now during shooting of the Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul.

This pic was snapped by a commuter, so the billboard is up, and it’s likely that it’s serving as both a marketing device and a visual element of shooting.

In case you were wondering, the number on the billboard is real, so go ahead and give it a call. In case you’re all out of your anytime minutes, the line leads to a recorded message by Odenkirk as McGill.

Get excited for Better Call Saul, coming 2015.

More details emerge to ensure that Better Call Saul exists as the sweet methadone, to our Breaking Bad heroin withdrawals. This time, we’re learning that story will start about six years before when we first met Saul on Breaking Bad.

Of course, we’ve been told by the producers that the spinoff will exist in a slightly different universe and timeline than its parent show, but we know what’s what one look at Bob Odenkirk‘s young scamp Jimmy McGill before he changed his name to become a more ‘exotic” lawyer I mean, he’s got a head of hair and a song in his heart judging by this picture.

Here’s another image to tide us over until the show’s premiere next spring:

We need Breaking Bad. In the absence of actual new Breaking Bad episodes, which seem very, very unlikely, we were willing to satisfy ourselves with Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad spinoff that we just learned has been delayed for about six months, BUT also picked up for two seasons.

So that’s for the future. WHAT ABOUT NOW?

Well, now AMC, realizing that we need something to get us through, and they’re plum out of Better Call Saul casting announcements, has gone ahead with a Breaking Bad marathon that will start on August 10th, then air marathon episodes on Sundays until the finale in October. The marathon will also be sprinkled with interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff that Netflix won’t give you.

Aside from that “bonus” this is very little that you can’t get from Netflix at literally any time.

Aaron Paul, a guy who consistently seems to be completely excited about everything, doesn’t appear to be super-excited about the prospect of appearing in Better Call Saul. In fact, he seems excited NOT to star in it, despite Vince Gilligan pledging that we will see both Walt and Jesse in the Breaking Bad spinoff.

Let’s go straight to the source, Mr. Paul, who offered this up to the Huffington Post:

“There’s rumors floating around that I’m going to be [appearing on Better Call Saul], but that’s simply not the case. To be honest, it’s not gonna happen.”

Well, shit. That’s pretty cut-and-dry. I mean, the guy did Need for Speed. That movie flopped, and now he’s flat-out refusing to go back to the very well that made him a star?

On the plus side, this does afford him the opportunity to call people “bitch” even more frequently than he already does.

Last we heard, Vince Gilligan was nervous about Better Call Saul. The production was off to a rocky start with at least one week needed to play catch up and Gilligan fearing the entire show was “a mistake.” Do with that information what you will as AMC has just ordered a thirteen-episode second season following the adventures of everyone’s favorite piece of sh*t lawyer.

AMC shared this news along with a set photo of Gilligan, co-showrunner Peter Gould, and star Bob Odenkirk whose hair is flowing luxuriously in the Arizona winds so it’s definitely not fake so just stop asking, okay?

Additionally, AMC President Charlie Collier still seems excited about airing a show with a built-in fanbase:

“Production on ‘Better Call Saul’ is underway and we could not be more proud of nor more excited about the work to date. We join the fans in eager anticipation for this series and today we happily confirm that our initial ‘Saul’ order is for two seasons and a total of 23 episodes,” said AMC president Charlie Collier. “When introducing any series, especially one with the DNA of ‘Breaking Bad,’ there are countless factors to consider in making sure the show gets the launch it deserves. We have a strong history with Vince, Peter, Bob, the studio and so many involved with this production; we are enjoying the process on ‘Saul’ and all share a focus on making it a true television event. No half measures.” (Via Variety)

And, oh yeah, about those delays. The show is now pushing from November 2014 to the first quarter of 2015. You can’t trust lawyers.

Better Call Saul is underway in New Mexico, meaning that it’s likely that the proposed November premiere date is attainable and realistic, which in turn means that this isn’t some cruel hoax dreamt up by AMC and Vince Gilligan to taunt us with a return to the Breaking Bad universe.

So we’ve got the script pic, and a pic of a skatepark.

BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

I dunno. Maybe the script is so weak that they’ve turned to a Bam Margera skateboarding cameo in the first episode. If so, ick. But more than likely, Saul will just be dicking around at some skatepark with the scum of the earth.

Or maybe they take the sitcom route, and that Huell and Saul are good friends until one day Saul bets Huell that Huell can’t land a 540 fakie McTwist. Huell comes up a bit short on the landing, and because he lost the bet, he now has to be Saul’s henchman.

Or whatever. Here’s the pic:

It seems that the siren call of Breaking Bad has lured back yet another alum. Skyler White, better known as “Ugh! Her?” may be popping up in the forthcoming prequel series/spinoff Better Call Saul.

The extent of her participation isn’t known, Anna Gunn, the woman behind the wife, has hinted that a) she will be in on the action, and b) she might just be pregnant. So that would probably put the events parallel with the start of the Breaking Bad timeline, just probably without Walt and Jessie’s business at the forefront.

To recap, we’ve got Saul and Mike as regulars, and then Skyler, Jessie, Walt, and a whole smattering of others in more limited capacities.

But what of Huell, they all asked?

WHAT OF HUELL?

Now that the hype around Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul has died down a smidge, we can have conversations about casting without EVERYONE FREAKING OUT OMG POLLOS HERMANOS.

Well, we can try anyway.

Today it has been reported that Aaron Paul is in serious talks to step back into his Jesse Pinkman role, but in brighter, younger days, when he was making meth for fun, not because Heisenberg was playing mind games. No word on whether the role would be a one-off appearance, recurring, or a regular, but given how much fun Paul had during his time on set, I would bet on a larger role rather than a smaller one.

The Breaking Bad prequel series, Better Call Saul, has just cast fan-favorite Jonathan Banks as a series regular. He’ll reprise his role as the haddock-eyed, ass-kickin’ grandpa Mike Ehrmantraut. It’s presumed we’ll learn exactly how Bob Odenkirk‘s Saul Goodman began his business arrangement with Mike the Fixer. And that Mike will wear a hilarious hairpiece. Or not. Really don’t know a damn thing about this series. Originally, it was believed Better Call Saul would be more comedy than drama, but the addition of Banks strongly implies bad guys will be murdered in extremely creative ways. Which is great because that is always hilarious to watch. (Deadline)

Peter Gould, a producer of the upcoming Better Call Saul, sat down with Yahoo! recently to discuss the anticipated spinoff that, if nothing else, will serve to give us a sweet, sweet fix of that Breaking Bad universe.

Saul will exist to a large extent in courtrooms, which means that we can take the awesomeness that was Counselor Goodman talking to the cops and project it onto a larger, more formal scale. We saw how we dealt with Walt and Jesse, so of course, with a show about him, we’ll see how he’s dealing with every other undesirable that crosses his path.

Gould also said that the creators are striving to find a way to bring familiar character into the story, but we nothing has been announced yet (and I wouldn’t be surprised if they just show up in passing).

Sooooooooo, those suits at AMC, after realizing they could put on a wrap-up talk show following their most popular series, now realize that they can make whole other series out of their most popular series.

Last week it became clear that Breaking Bad‘s Saul Goodman spinoff, Better Call Saul, was moving forward, so it was only a matter of time (five days?) before the network announced that they would be spinning off a Walking Dead series.

Of course, the first difference that comes to mind between these spinoffs, of which relatively little is known, is that Breaking Bad will be off the air when Saul comes to life, while Walking Dead will most likely not be, meaning one network will be offering us two zombie shows. Perhaps it’s better than Low Winter Sun, but that’s not a tough bar to clear.

The show will take place in the Walking Dead universe, but will not be rooted in the comic books already written. The President of AMC, Charlie Collier, said in the announcement the spinoff will contain “an entirely new story and cast of characters.” He added, “It’s a big world and we can’t wait to give fans another unforgettable view of the zombie apocalypse.”

And that’s all we know right now. Stay tuned.

The buzz around the watercooler and Nescafe machine for the past few months has been that AMC is contemplating a Breaking Bad spin-off series following shady lawyer/snappy dresser Saul Goodman. This week, they pulled the trigger and gave the green light to Better Call Saul!, a series that will serve as a prequel to Saul’s adventures in the world of methamphetamine.

With the help of Hollywood contacts that we haven’t upset yet, we were able to get our hands on the show’s opening credits scene. Looks like it will be a classic!

AMC has announced today that it reached an agreement with Sony Television to license the Saul Goodman spinoff from Breaking Bad, and the word on the street is that it’s a prequel. The show hasn’t technically been ordered yet, but they’re probably just waiting to deal us some really harsh blow in the next weeks of Breaking Bad, then smooth things over with the announcement.

Unfortunately, the prequel revelation does NOTHING to give certainty to the fate of Saul in a Breaking Bad context, so we can all assume that Walter White shoots him with that huge gun, then dumps ricin in the wounds in a macabre twist.

Or he’s fine.

Some other things that are (and aren’t) mentioned:

  • The prequel will be an “evolution” of the character, so he might start off as a normal, non-slimy, non-awesome person. Vince Gilligan LOVES evolutions of star characters.
  • The show will be an hour long, and not the thirty minute comedy that had been rumored a couple months back.
  • It’s not mentioned if Vince Gilligan will be as involved in this as he is in Breaking Bad. It would be great to have him on board creatively, but the world may require his authorship on another, non-prequel project.
  • LITERALLY NO MENTION OF HUELL. He’s probably in the bathroom. He’s got a stomach thing.
  • Its working title is Better Call Saul. No shit.
