‘Social Network’ Author and ‘Easy A’ Director Team Up To Commit Moon Crimes?

Who wants to commit earth crimes anymore? That’s so boring. Cool criminals are robbing space stuff, where the real money’s at. Yesterday there was talk about director Doug Limon‘s sci-fi heist story – about a group of engineers attempting to steal crazy moon energy – finally getting off the ground. Now it might be director Will Gluck‘s (Easy A) turn to swipe his piece of the big cheese rock in the sky for Sony Pictures.

Gluck is in talks to adapt the forthcoming book Sex on the Moon by author Ben Mezrich (The Social Network). It’s a story everyone can relate to: Boy meets Girl, Boy gets NASA Internship, Boy attempts to steal a piece of the moon Johnson Space Center and sell them online to impress Girl, followed by hijinks. Space hijinks, the best kind. Good luck to Mezrich, who’s looking to continue his streak of selling his book’s movie rights before most people have even read them.

“Sex On The Moon” will be released July 12th. Gluck’s new comedy, Friends With Benefits with Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, gets into bed with theaters July 22nd. (LA Times)

The dudes and dudette behind The Social Network are getting the band back together. Producers Scott Rudin, Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti have made a deal with Sony to adapt the work of Accidental Billionaires writer Ben Mezrich once again. Sex On The Moon tells the true story of Thad Roberts, a NASA employee who literally tries to give his girlfriend the moon.

Enlisting the help of his girlfriend and another girl, both NASA interns (pimp), Thad planned an Ocean’s Eleven-style heist to steal heavily-guarded moon rocks. Seems like a lot of trouble, but to each their own. He could have just bought some on Amazon for $170.00 plus shipping. Or $130.00 if he’s approved for the Amazon.com Rewards Visa Card. (Deadline)

“BLOOD SIMPLE” IS BEING REMADE IN CHINA

In the past seven years we’ve seen a glut of Asian movies remade on our shores. Some of them fantastic, others craptastic. Well, now it looks like the shoe is on the other foot. The Playlist reports that House of Flying Daggers director Zhang Yimou is remaking the Coen Brothers classic Blood Simple in his homeland of China.

I hope this does well and leads to more retreads on foreign soil because I personally would love to see a Japanese version of Goodfellas. How great would that be? All the gangsters would dress like Elvis and gesture wildly like Lenny and Squiggy.

"What’s that? You think I’m clown? I amuse you, hound dog?"

Oh my God. This film needs to be made. Somebody get Japan on the phone.
