Here are 10 reasons why he's absolutely right!

Even though Michael Keaton is currently on a press tour to promote his new movie Need For Speed, alongside Aaron Paul, there’s really only one thing on his mind: Beetlejuice 2, Beetlejuice 2, Beetlejuice 2! Though he does have a few conditions (e.g. Tim Burton must direct–DUH, if not, why bother?!). Keaton is saying he’s been keen to get back in the shoes of the ghost with the most for years. And the good news is that Tim Burton apparently IS on board with this. But Tim, if you’re still on the fence, if you still need a little convincing, here are 10 reasons why you absolutely NEED to make this movie! (Maybe I should also say Beetlejuice three times, just to be safe? He’ll always appear when you say it three times, right?)

1. Michael Keaton is still young enough to play the role. It would be blasphemy to cast anyone but him, but…let’s be honest, the man isn’t getting any younger. You gotta get on that while he still has the physical strength to uncoil a pair of 20 foot-long arms that are attached to inflatable mallet hands. Getting around that with CGI is NOT OK.

2. Beetlejuice cannot be played by an old man, because he can never age beyond the age that he was when he died, which is the age that he is as a dead guy. Otherwise, it won’t make any sense. Again, Keaton’s not getting any younger!

Beetlejuice goes into whorehouse dante's inferno room

3. A sequel of sorts without Michael Keaton has already been made. It was weekly, it was animated and it was for kids. And it was terrible. Just kidding, I really don’t know if it was terrible or not. What I DO know is that it didn’t have any of the dirty jokes or references to great literature in the form of miniature hellish whore houses. This wrong needs to be righted.

4. Beetlejuice attended the Harvard Business School and Julliard. He’s seen The Exorcist about a hundred and sixty seven times…and it keeps getting funnier every time he sees it! Can we really let those qualifications go to waste?

5. Sandworms.

6. As long as you don’t cast Helena Bonham Carter, everyone will see it. OK, so that’s just not realistic. Everyone will see it anyway.

7. A movie like this made using practical effects over CGI would be wonderfully refreshing. (You’d use practical effects, right, Tim??)

8. People have forgotten about the whole Winona Ryder shoplifting thing. In fact, people have pretty much forgotten about Winona Ryder period. Lydia, (a.k.a the “love” of Beetlejuice’s afterlife) could come back without tarnishing the film. Well, maybe a little with her bad acting. But that’s OK. It’s a comedy.

9. A story about bio-exorcism is always relevant. How many times have you wished you could say something as simple as “Beetlejuice” three times in order to get some awful people out of your house?  It’s completely relateable. Who wouldn’t want to again live vicariously through the person that calls on Beetlejuice to do just that for them?

10. Because it would be amazing. I know I’m not alone in citing Beetlejuice as one of my all-time favorite movies or in thinking that Beetlejuice is a character who a new generation of audiences would will love too. Tim, make the sequel now and make it right, before someone else does the unthinkable…and does a remake.

If you say “Tim Burton” three times in the mirror, the legend says that he will appear, remake a beloved property, and Johnny Depp will receive a new hat.

Someone must have been running their mouth, because Mr. Burton has surfaced, reportedly to give us a sequel to Beetlejuice. Of course, there was a sequel planned almost immediately after the original, but life has a way of shanghaiing your plans, and Burton went on to do about ten films of dwindling quality since then.

But Michael Keaton and Geena Davis have both expressed an interest in returning, and most any girl can be made to look like Winona Ryder with the right haircut, so this thing could stay pretty true to form. No plot details are available right now, so let’s make some up: Beetlejuice goes to see Dark Shadows, is refused a refund after the film ends, then goes home and sobs for 86 minutes.

Michael Keaton Almost Played Jack On ‘Lost’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/michael-keaton-almost-played-jack-on-lost/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/tv/tv-news/michael-keaton-almost-played-jack-on-lost/#comments Mon, 23 Sep 2013 21:23:08 +0000 Wookie Johnson http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=257156 That would have been cool. Before they decided to go with Charlie from Party of Five, the producers of LOST had much different plans for Dr. Jack Shepard. Originally, J.J. Abrams approached Michael Keaton about playing the role… and planned to kill him off in the pilot episode.

Keaton says he was thinking about doing it until Abrams called to let him know that “Dr. Jack Shepard,” who was slated to die in the first episode of the original pilot, would instead be a series regular. “I said, ‘I’ll seriously consider it, send me the script,’” says Keaton. “He said, ‘No, we’re keeping the guy alive,’ and I said, ‘Oh, ok, well I can’t do that.’”

Despite the success of “Lost,” Keaton says he knows he made the right decision. “I wouldn’t do it if the guy was going to be in the show every week,” he says. “An hour show every week… I’ve got stuff to do, I’ve got a life to lead. When would I fish?”

I can understand Keaton’s decision not to move to the beautiful landscape of Hawaii for most of the year. It’s too bad that things didn’t go as originally planned. Had Keaton played Jack and been killed off early in the series, he could always come back as a ghost. The ghost with the most.

After a merciful false start in the early 90′s (unless the public really wanted a Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian), it sounds like Warner Bros might be going forward with a sequel to Beetlejuice, the 1988 beloved Tim Burton film starring Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, Winona Ryder, and Michael Keaton.

The studio has signed a two-year, first-look deal with writing duo Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg, who are behind both Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Burton’s upcoming Dark Tower. The duo have penned a script that is believed to be a continuation, rather than a reboot, of the original Beetlejuice.

For those who are too young to have seen the original firsthand, Beetlejuice is a dark comedy about ghosts who are trying to scare the new occupants out of their old home. The film definitely runs quirky and Burton-esque, so without his involvement, this project could find itself woefully misguided. The same could be said for Keaton, so it will be interesting to see what path the studio takes.

Further, it could be funny seeing Keaton throw out his back performing wacky antics.

Seriously, though, I wish the guy nothing but the best. He’s Mr. Mom, after all.

Actor Michael Keaton has expressed interest in reprising his role of Beetlejuice, the ghost with the most. When asked about the possibility, Keaton replied, "Absolutely, that's the one thing I'd love to do again." I would have guessed that the "one thing" Keaton would have chosen to revisit would have been Mr. Mom, or maybe Gung Ho. But that's just me.Considering his Beetle Juice co-star Geena Davis has already expressed interest, it's probably only a matter of time before a studio throws money at yet another 80's nostalgia project. Of course, this is provided Alec Baldwin isn't too busy with "30 Rock," and Winona Ryder isn't too busy shoplifting! Zing! That joke is just as relevant as it was nine years ago! (DeadCentral)
