Before we start decrying that the man is too busy…Well, nothing. Let’s just not decry that the man is too busy and assume that he will get us our Star Wars film in a timely fashion because Abrams is rich, and rich people can get things done with remarkable ease.

In any event, during a keynote speech for somesuch thing in Las Vegas yesterday, J.J. told the world that Bad Robot would be teaming up with video game company Valve to see if Half-Life and Portal films were viable. I’m guessing that they will be.

The extent to which Abrams would be personally involved with these project would be anyone’s guess. He is, after all, very, very busy.

Not that it’s any of our business how busy someone is with their career.

Want to make expensive Hollywood special effects, but you’re sick of waiting on slow render farms and discouraged by bad pixelation? Well, your worries are over. Thanks to J.J. Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot, you can now download the Action Movie FX app. Just shoot at least five seconds of video with your iPhone and choose the effect you like. Inspired by scenes in Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol, the current effects available are “Missile Attack!” and “Car Smash.”

The app and these effects are free, but additional effects such as “Chopper Down”/”Tornado” and “Air Strike”/Firefight” are available for a small fee. More effects are on the way, like “Lens Flare,” “Spielberg,” “Annoying Viral Campaign,” and “Hire Greg Grunberg.” (THR)

All you need to know: "Swashbuckling robots with swords."

Monica Breen and Alison Schapker are a rare thing in Hollywood, particularly in the field of science fiction: A successful female screenwriting team. They’ve worked on TV shows for J.J. Abrams, such as “Alias,” “Lost,” and now”Fringe,” but they’re in the big picture business as well. They’ve been brought on to write a draft with the working title of Zanbato, about which little is known but has been described as “swashbuckling robots with swords.” Well, I’m sold.

Breen and Schapker aren’t done coming up with weird stuff for Abrams and his production company Bad Robot, such as their crime drama comic “Pulp,” which is set to be published by DC Comics. Ladies writing movies about robots and crime comics? What would our forefathers think of this, other than being too distracted by swashbuckling robots with swords to care?
