Are you ready? Nah, you're not ready.

As we’ve seen with the crazy box office business drummed up by The Avengers and it’s many spinoffs, the big idea these days is to assemble a group of characters, release some films with all of them, then release some individual films, then become REALLY rich.

We see DC Comics beginning to do it with Justice League, featuring Batman, Aquaman, and all the other men, and Marvel’s even doing it again with Spider-Man and his weird group of friends.

However, Universal doesn’t want to limit the opportunity to just comic book characters, as it’s supposedly assembling all it’s classic monster characters from it’s really old movies, like Van Helsing, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, and all those other people you grandfather won’t stop talking about. The premise kicks off in 2016 with a new Mummy film that presumably won’t have Brendan Fraser in it, but who knows?

It’s commonly held among both nerds and non-nerds that the Iron Man suit, featured in the movies of the same name, and The Avengers, is one of the coolest movie toys out there. So it was only a matter of time before the U.S. military, arguably the best-funded organization on Earth, demanded one like a petulant child.

To make the dream come true, the military isn’t just working with its normal contractors like Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics (is there a more sinister name in the world than “General Dynamics?”), but also with Legacy Effects, who designed the suit for the films.

The Wall Street Journal is claiming that the suit will have “a weapon, provide bullet protection, monitor vitals, and give its wearer superhuman strength and perception.” The perfect outfit to kill a lot of people in.

No word on when the suit will be ready, but it sounds like Summer 2017 is a good slot.

You think just because a movie rakes in $500 million at the box office that it’s beyond criticism?

Then you’re wrong. DEAD wrong.

(Sorry, that was a little too menacing.)

But you’re still wrong. As Screen Junkies has done with The Dark Knight, Avatar, and Transformers, it does again with the superhero mashup film The Avengers. And if I may so myself, we really stick it to that Joss Whedon guy. So much so that I bet he sees this, then falls off his giant pile of money, with only a slightly smaller pile of money to cushion his fall.

Oh, the humanity.

Hope you enjoy us making fun of The Avengers!

In about two months, The Avengers film will be in theaters. That’s a long wait for many fans, but the wait will feel about 14 hours shorter for Marvel fans who sign up for The Ultimate Marvel Movie Marathon, which is pretty much just what it sounds like.

Leading up to an Avengers showing at midnight, the marathon will offer showings of all the movies featuring Avengers characters. So Spider-Man and Ghost Rider can go straight to hell.

On the docket are screenings of Thor, Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, and Captain America. Now that’s a lazy Thursday that we can all get behind. Only 10 theater in 10 cities will be screening this marathon, so in big markets, move now to guarantee a ticket. Tickets are only $40 for all the films, so your reasons for not sitting in a dark room and watching comic book movies are dwindling.

So that’s how the super friends all met! We can thank a bald black dude in an eyepatch.

In case you were wondering exactly how the characters from The Avengers were all assembled so as not to look like a superhero version of the Miami Heat, here’s your answer. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) assembled a team of elite superheroes (Is there any other kind?) to tackle the type of costumed ne’er-do-wells that could only populate a Marvel universe.

While I’m sure the origin story of The Avengers is somewhat carefully crafted, it’s pretty hard to get past seeing Captain America next to Thor next to Iron Man. It looks like a parody of itself, but that probably won’t stop it from being fun.

The Only City Mighty Enough For The Avengers To Call Home? The Avengers will be filming in…Cleveland. It’s uncertain why a group of bad-asses that travel the world would end up in the much-maligned Midwestern city, but my guess is that they felt like performing a civic duty and turning the local economy around. Maybe the whole film is about them visiting the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I’m kidding.

They’re going snorkeling in Lake Erie.

Whatever the reason, the decision to film there is a coup for civic leaders, who have been searching for a way to get Cleveland back in the American consciousness since their previous salvation, LeBron James, decided to take his talents to South Beach. Wayne Hill, of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission (which, since “The Drew Carey Show” went off the air, was probably probably a calling tantamount to being unemployed) says it’s “the largest film ever shot in Ohio.” Duh.

For those unfamiliar, The Avengers is an ensemble film featuring many of the stars of the Marvel Comics universe, most of whom have gotten their own films already. The laundry list of superheros includes:

Previous reports had solidified the film would be shot in Brooklyn, then one surfaced saying the majority would be shot in Albuquerque, then rumors of filming in Detroit were dashed, so don’t get too married to the idea of filming in Cleveland just yet. However, when a member of the Greater Cleveland Film Commission speaks, you listen, so remain cautiously optimistic. (Bleeding Cool)

Samuel L. Jackson, who appeared as Nick Fury after the credits of Iron Man, and somewhere in the murky, sequel-y depths of Iron Man 2, is finally getting his own shot at the spotlight in The Avengers, but he’ll be sharing it with a hot brunette sidekick. Jackson told Jimmy Fallon last night, “I gotta screen test like five actresses on Friday. They have this new character that’s my sidekick or something, that’s with me all the time.” So far we know that several actresses, from Scott Pilgrim’s Mary Elizabeth Winstead to  Cobie Smulders from “How I Met Your Mother” are being considered for the role, along with several other equally beautiful but less noteworthy brunettes. The Avengers begins filming in April, with an intended release date of May 4, 2012. (The Playlist)
