The team that brought us Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl is back with another look at The Lone Ranger. Here we get an idea of the origin of Armie Hammer‘s Ranger — a man thought to be dead dons a mask and teams up with a Native American for justice. Attempts at summer blockbuster action Westerns have failed in recent memory, but perhaps this one will break the streak. It has Johnny Depp after all (assuming no one remembers The Tourist).

Armie Hammer, the actor clean cut enough to play not one, but two Winklevosseseses and the Lone Ranger in Disney‘s upcoming adaptation is living a double life! Behind that clean-cut facade and tight body (what?), Mr. Hammer enjoys taking the pot in edible form. Two cookies and a brownie, to be precise.

To be fair, Armie was in possession of seemingly the smallest amount of pot (.02 ounces) that can still constitute “having some pot on you.” After consulting with uh, a friend, it would seem that .02 ounces is, like, barely a bowl. So the question isn’t “why did Armie Hammer have pot on him?” but rather, “Why did Armie Hammer have so little pot on him?”

Another question to ask yourself is why was he carrying it in Sierra Blanca, Texas, the town where Willie Nelson and Snoop Dogg were also busted for weed. Further, what was Armie doing hanging out in a Texas border town frequented by the likes of Willie and Snoop? Get back to Nantucket, Armie. Stat!

Leonardo DiCaprio Channels Batman In ‘J. Edgar’ Trailer

I’d never known that J. Edgar Hoover and Batman were so similar until I watched this trailer for J. Edgar. Both committed themselves to ridding society of gangsters and evil-doers. Both took the fight in both hands when the downtrodden weren’t strong enough to rise. And both enjoyed to play dress up.

Leonardo DiCaprio and a balding cap star as the FBI director in a story that spans several decades. The 987th film from celebrated director Clint Eastwood, J. Edgar will hit theaters just in time for awards season by opening wide on November 11th. Though it’s likely to face some strong competition from Darren Lynn Bousman‘s 11-11-11.

‘The Lone Ranger’ Has A Release Date

First off, I know Tonto doesn’t wear the mask, but I don’t care.

Disney will release The Lone Ranger on December 21, 2012. Now you know what to see on Christmas day before you gorge on Chinese food. Hi ho, Silver! and all that jazz. The film, directed by Gore Verbinski, stars Armie Hammer as the titular Lone Ranger and Johnny Depp as his trusty sidekick, Tonto. I’m personally excited to see what new funny voice Depp will come up with this time. Or his take on the cliché Native American speech pattern.

Ang Lee‘s Life of Pi and Judd Apatow’s next film also release on December 21, 2012. That is until they realize they’re opening against a Johnny Depp film.

Relativity’s ‘Snow White’ Casts Dwarves Aplenty

The Great Snow White Race continues. Relativity recently bumped their untitled Snow White project’s release date to March 16, 2012, months ahead of Universal’s Snow White and The Huntsman bow on June 1, 2012. Now Relativity is pulling ahead by doing a major casting blitz, hiring 7 bros to play 7 dwarves. Where are your dwarves, Kristen Stewart? Yeah, that’s what I thought.

Armie Hammer, Julia Roberts and Lily Collins will be joined in the cast by Jordan Prentice (Harold & Kumar), Joey Gnoffo (Pirates of the Caribbean), Danny Woodburn (Watchmen), Ronald Lee Clark (Epic Movie), Sebastian Saraceno (Bedtime Stories) and Mark Povinelli (Water for Elephants). I like that they’re using actual little people, as opposed to camera tricks, wardrobe tricks or f*cking CGI. However, was Peter Dinklage at least called?

Michael Lerner and Mare Winningham have also landed parts in the film. (Deadline)

Namey Award winner Armie Hammer, who doubled your Winkelvoss in The Social Network, is officially confirmed to star in The Lone Ranger as… the masked guy. What’s his name? White horse, the movie’s named after the dude… Tonto? No, that’s gonna be Johnny Depp. Damn it, this is gonna bug me all day.

Hammer will ride for director Gore Verbinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer in Disney’s big screen revival of the classic Western series. He’s also got a supporting role in the upcoming J. Edgar Hoover biopic and he’ll play the prince in Th Brothers Grimm: Snow White, just one in an infinite number of Snow White projects in the works. However, this looking-to-start-a-franchise movie could be the spurs to the sides of the horse that is Hammer’s career. The horse is named “Ol’ Careery.”

No official release date yet for Disney’s Lone Ranger, but it could ride into theaters as early as fall 2012. (Variety)

‘Snow White & The Huntsman’ Pulls Ahead Of Other ‘Snow White’ In Release Date Race

Hollywood executives and internet commenters have something in common: The urge to shout “first!” So it is with the filmmakers at Universal behind Snow White and the Huntsman, who have moved their movie’s release date up six months, putting it a few weeks before the now-untitled Snow White movie that used to be called Brothers Grimm: Snow White, coming out June 29th, 2012.

In case you haven’t committed the myriad Snow White movies to memory, Snow White and the Huntsman is the one with Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth as the titular characters, and Charlize Theron as the evil queen. The other movie, from Relativity Media, stars Julia Roberts, Lily Collins, and Armie Hammer. It’s not known if Relativity plans to respond by moving ITS movie up to before Snow White and the Huntsman, but I’m hoping that this race continues to the point where they attempt to beam the movies back in time. I guess we’d know now if they did that, though. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Armie Hammer was rumored to be playing The Lone Ranger opposite Johnny Depp, but the truth was something even stranger than that – OK, just as strange: The movie is 2:22, from Todd Stein and Moon screenwriter Nathan Parker. Here’s the low-down on Hammer’s role in the movie:

“[A]n air traffic controller whose life unravels after he’s nearly responsible for a collision between passenger planes caused by a mysterious blinding flash at 2:22 p.m. The event leads him to meet a woman whose life seems to have been intertwined with his long ago.”

Given current trends in Hollywood, they might change the woman into Osama bin Laden. They have until the fall to decide, when the movie starts shooting – around the same time as The Lone Ranger, in fact – which is why Hammer probably can’t do both. Unless he brings in his twin to help him out again like he did on The Social Network. Is Armie Hammer‘s twin still acting? (Variety)

‘Lone Ranger’ Producers Declare It (Armie) Hammer-Time

Armie Hammer is now in talks to star as the titular character in Disney’s The Lone Ranger, opposite Johnny Depp’s Tonto.

Though Ryan Gosling had been in talks to play the character, it was unlikely to fit in his schedule, as he had his plate full with Logan’s Run, which is expected to be a multi-picture franchise, as is The Lone Ranger, presumably. However, Mr. Hammer, having just recently enjoyed notoriety from his turn in The Social Network, has a little more flexibility, so it’s possible he will get the privilege of talking down to his Native American sidekick in this project.

The Lone Ranger reunites Depp, director Gore Verbinski, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer, so expect the vets to haze the hell out of the new guy by making him French kiss his horse or slow-dance with a cactus. (Deadline)

Phil Collins’ Daughter Is Snow White

Casting news for Th Brothers Grimm: Snow White, which is the Snow White movie with Julia Roberts and Armie Hammer, has been conspicuously lacking information about who would actually play the titular character of Snow White. It turns out we should have looked at the “Phil Collins connection” that runs through so many of the mysteries in today’s world. His daughter, Lily Collins, is the lucky girl who now gets to be the subject of countless clever puns involving the phrase “lily white.” This isn’t her first journey into the world of acting though – she was previously Sandra Bullock‘s daughter in The Blind Side.

Collins is also appearing in Priest and John Singleton’s Abduction. It’s a shame there’s no role for Phil, unless … are there going to be dwarfs in this version? (via Deadline)

Just One Of Armie Hammer Cast In ‘The Brothers Grimm: Snow White’

You probably know Armie Hammer as the gifted actor who played not one, but both of the Winklevoss twins in David Fincher‘s The Social Network. How gifted? He’s apparently also able to take both of his bodies and merge into one in order to play fairy tale princes, as we now know he is in Th Brothers Grimm: Snow White, one of three Snow White movies currently in development. You might say they’re triplets, if triplets were born separately befor fighting each other to the death.

In case you don’t have your “upcoming Snow White adaptation” scorecard, this is the one directed by Tarsem Singh (The Cell) with Julia Roberts as the evil queen, not the one that Viggo Mortensen told to go to hell. As for the title character, it’s not set in stone yet, but Saoirse Ronan is reportedly being looked at to play Snow White opposite Hammer. Hammer and Ronan both have big movies coming out, with the former appearing in Clint Eastood’s J. Edgar Hoover biopic, and the latter in Hannah. (via Deadline)

Stephen Root Is An FBI Cooperator

Character actor Stephen Root (Red State) has a way of turning up in unlikely places, especially now that he’s escaped from the comedy ghetto of his earlier work. Now, he’s been added to the already-in-production J. Edgar from drama ghetto denizen Clint Eastwood.

He’s joining a pretty impressive cast, with Leonardo DiCaprio in the titular role of FBI head J. Edgar (Hoover), The Social Network‘s Armie Hammer as J. Edgar‘s “companion” Clyde Tolson, and Judi Dench as J. Edgar’s mother.

All right-thinking film fans should be excited about this, because Stephen Root is one of the most fascinating people to watch in movies today. And if you’re skeptical about his ability to be in serious dramas, see his recent work in No Country For Old Men and the TV series”Justified.” (via The Playlist)

Government bureaucracy isn’t normally depicted as the sexiest of career paths, but Charlize Theron might soon change that. She’s been offered the role of Helen Gandy, eccentric FBI man J. Edgar Hoover’s personal assistant, in Clint Eastwood’s greatly anticipated Hoover biopic, with Leo DiCaprio already cast as J. Edgar himself. Also in talks to join the cast is Armie Hammer, the guy who played those rich, blond twins a.k.a. The Winklevi in The Social Network. He would portray Clyde Tolson, Hoover’s right-hand-man and rumored lover. Eastwood previously offered the part of Tolson to professional crazy person Joaquin Phoenix, who reportedly turned it down after learning that the role would require him to do more than just stare at things intensely.
