This behind the scenes look at Real Steel shows us exactly what makes the robots tick. Surprisingly, it’s not Andy Serkis.

Boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard is the man behind the mo-cap this time, choreographing fight moves with actual boxers (imagine if he played Gollum). Normally I’d make a joke about the spandex and motion-ball outfits, but I value my jaw so I’ll let this one slide. Also featured are stars Hugh Jackman and Anthony Mackie, who do their best to act against nothing. I’m talking about the special effects, you guys. Not Evangeline Lilly.

ADAM SCOTT will appear with Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand in My Mother’s Curse as well as the comedy See Girl Run opposite Robin Tunney where he’ll play a sensitive artist. Adam, I hope you checked with Paul Rudd to make sure he wasn’t interested in these roles first. He has seniority. (THR)

ANTHONY MACKIE will join The Gangster Squad after all. He’ll play Rocky Washington, the first black lieutenant in the LAPD who bumped himself back down to beat cop before being recruited to join Ryan Gosling and Josh Brolin‘s elite squad of gangsterbusters. He’s their Winston. (Variety)

ROBIN WRIGHT is in talks to star opposite Kevin Spacey in David Fincher‘s Netflix original series, “House Of Cards.” The political thriller is slated to begin production next spring so she has plenty of time to add and remove “Penn” from her name before the guy who animates the opening credits has to request last call. Anthony Mackie has officially gone from an “Oh Yeah, That Guy!” to a bankable movie star. Thanks to The Hurt Locker, you’ll see him in some high-profile roles very soon that don’t require him to do bad imitations of Tupac.

He’s received an offer to battle the undead alongside Brad Pitt in World War Z and is being looked at for a role in Gangster Squad. No idea what characters he will portray in either but we can assume both will require him to kick some ass. Especially the zombies. They need to learn they can’t go around biting everyone. (Variety)

Robin McLeavy To Be Abe Lincoln’s Mom Instead

In a development that I’m sure is humiliating to poor Robin McLeavy, the actress, who was previously rumored to be playing the part of Abraham Lincoln‘s crazy wife Mary Todd in the big-screen adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, is now playing the 16th president/vampire hunter’s mother instead. Whoa! Next I’ll be telling you that Robin McLeavy was cast as Helen Keller but got switched to Annie Sullivan instead. That’s a good joke, trust me.

The movie will also star Benjamin Walker, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper and Jimmi Simpson. As for a plot synopsis, I think you’ve got pretty much all you need from the title. Abraham Lincoln hunts vampires. If you need anything more than this I’m not sure a website is going to solve your myriad of problems. (via The Playlist)

UPDATE: Variety is also reporting that Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia, Captain America) has signed on to play the key role of Henry Sturgess, a role that Joaquin Phoenix had been in talks to play earlier.

While Pride and Prejudice and Zombies seems to be the pool in which all talent dips their toes, only to yell, “Heavens! That’s too cold for me!” (or whatever), the similar historical bastardization, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter seems to get its house in order more and more every day. Today’s news is that we are close to a best friend/sidekick casting for our protagonist, Honest Abe (played by Benjamin Walker). Anthony Mackie is in talks to play the role of Will, Lincoln‘s buddy and partner in vampire-slaying. The part is said to be a big one, with lots of bloodsuckers dying by his hands, which would probably put Mackie over the moon if he hasn’t had such a good run of luck already.

He is starring with Hugh Jackman in the actioner Real Steel, then next up is a role with Matt Damon and Emily Blunt in The Adjustment Bureau. Further, he’s gracing the cover of Vanity Fair‘s Hollywood Issue this month. So yeah, you could say his star is on the rise. (Deadline)

Robot Nutshots Galore In ‘Real Steel’ Teaser Trailer

If you haven’t yet had your fill of robots kicking each other’s asses in movies then this Real Steel trailer is going to make you go cuckoo bananas. Directed by Shawn Levy, it stars Hugh Jackman as a robot boxing coach who teams up with his son to make their mechanical heavy weight a championship winner. Supposedly they used mostly practical effects in the film, but it appears to be mainly CG to my eye. They shouldn’t have cropped Jackman’s hair so short if they wanted him to look real.

Casting Begins for Tom Cruise’s ‘M:I4′ Protege

According to my super-secret source within Paramount Pictures (by that I mean The Wrap), director Brad Bird and Tom Cruise are about to begin casting for the role of Ethan Hunt’s protégé in Mission: Impossible 4. While nothing is definite, Keven Zegers, Christopher Egan and Anthony Mackie are all vying for the part, although they may be in the running for other roles, as well.

After the failure of Cruise’s last film, Knight and Day, Paramount was anxious to hedge its bets by bringing in another prominent actor to help draw an audience. By that logic, I really don’t see why the studio passed over Tyler Perry. Diary of a Mad Black Warlord or I Can Do Baghdad All My Myself would have killed, and no one would have cared about the bad acting or cheesy plot. (/Film)
