It took 'Arrested Development' six years to get ten more.

After exceeding the minimum ratings threshold that kicked in an automatic renewal, Anger Management, a show in which Charlie Sheen plays pretty much his Two and a Half Men character, only sans bowling shirts, has been picked up for a few more episodes.

90 episodes. Which means that it’s already guaranteed to hit the 100-episode milestone required for wide, painful syndication.

Yay?

To the “credit” of the show, and FX, it has quickly become the highest-rated sitcom on cable, surpassing like Workaholics, Always Sunny, Wilfred, and three others, so it’s probably performing as well as cable will allow it to. Still, it’s a Charlie Sheen TV adaptation of an Adam Sandler film.

Strange times, readers. Strange times.

Life imitating art. Wait. I inverted that. Art imitating life. That's way less impressive, though.

In case you forgot what Charlie Sheen is like in real life, Anger Management is giving you a little something something to remind you. But don’t take it too literally, because I don’t think he ACTUALLY has a Masters degree, but only because it’s not possible to major in “Pussy and Coke,” though maybe he could some sort of out-of-class tutorial.

Also let this clip remind you that Selma Blair is aging like a Chateau Latour, and will reach epic heights of beauty somewhere around her 40th birthday.

Charlie Sheen And His New TV Show Get Picked Up By FX

My research hasn't turned up any signs of Chuck Lorre's involvement in the show.

Charlie Sheen’s TV adaptation of the film Anger Management has been picked up by original programming powerhouse FX after the show had been pitched to virtually every player in cable TV. The order for ten episodes is expected to premiere in summer 2012.

This news comes as something of a surprising move considering FX‘s recent taste for more “thoughtful” fare, as Charlie Sheen, a TV adaptation of a film, and Anger Management don’t really scream “highbrow.” I’m not inclined to prejudge, but I’m wondering how much the public’s fascination with all things Sheen played into the demand for the show. The show has been a project of Sheen’s since the CBS Unpleasantness of Last Spring, and he’s embedded in the project as both the star and executive producer.

If the ten episodes ordered meet certain ratings criteria, then FX will pick up the show for an additional 90 episodes. Considering many people will check in on the initial episodes just to see what Sheen is up to, there’s a decent chance he’s struck a deal that will keep him in our lives for a while.
