Of course, Andy Griffith also made quite the name for himself and Ron Howard, with the endearing and enduring The Andy Griffith Show, in which the namesake spouted homespun wisdom a la Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird.

Matlock Andy Griffith died Tuesday morning in his North Carolina home. Griffith had endured quadruple bypass heart surgery in 2000, then a hip surgery after falling in 2007.
