In case you're bad with idioms, "he's dead."

At the age of 86, Andy Griffith hadn’t much of an impact on recent generations, save for a killer Arrested Development cameo, but the icon’s mark on previous generations has left his death rattling countless old folks who just want their Matlock. Of course, Andy Griffith also made quite the name for himself and Ron Howard, with the endearing and enduring The Andy Griffith Show, in which the namesake spouted homespun wisdom a la Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird.

Maaaaatttttttloooooooooock!

<del>Matlock</del> Andy Griffith died Tuesday morning in his North Carolina home. Griffith had endured quadruple bypass heart surgery in 2000, then a hip surgery after falling in 2007.

Because Andy Griffith probably never resonated profoundly with the younger readers of this site, our reaction can probably be encapsulated with this cryptic Dave Coulier (Full House) Tweet:

“RIP Andy Griffith. Thank you for all the laughs. I love Mayberry, and never knew that R.F.D. was for Rural Free Delivery. #AndyGriffith”
