Just as ridiculous as 'Twilight' but without the silliness.

The Host is back with another trailer to remind us that sci-fi nerd Andrew Niccol can get mushy too. But not if that means he has to sacrifice including sleek, futuristic cars. There’s only one proper way to direct an Andrew Niccol film and that’s by adding cool cars. And helicopters fighting trucks.

Based on Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight follow-up, The Host trades sparkling skin for bizarro eyes and Kristen Stewart for an actress you don’t want to kick down a flight of stairs. When Earth is invaded by an advanced race of brain parasites, there are only a small number of sexy teens left to fight for the fate of mankind. Damn those brain slugs and their technological advancements and betterment of society. They won’t get away with that!

Don’t worry Twihards. Though your beloved film series is coming to an end, a new film is available from the brain of Stephanie Meyer. The premise of The Host is simple. It’s the future. Just about everyone has been body-snatched except for a small number of survivors. When the aliens close in on two characters from a Nicholas Sparks novel, the girl sacrifices herself. However, her strong will is able to resist the alien inside of her. Will the rebels and her boyfriend accept that? He had better. There’s a severe drought of hot tail in post-body snatcher America.

There’s no word yet if the young stars are an actual couple in real life or not, but I’m sure we’ll hear about it if they start banging.

In the future, science has stopped the gene for aging. However, you don’t live past twenty-five years old unless you’re able to earn more time as it has become the chief currency. Which means that the wealthy can live forever and the poor work until they die. Fuck that shit. I’m moving to Future Canada.

In Time stars Justin Timberlake as a man on the run after he inherits a century. Amanda Seyfried, Olivia Wilde, Cillian Murphy, Vincent Kartheiser, and Alex Pettyfer are also on hand to eternally attractive.

7 photosMila Kunis

Justin Timberlake, not content to be the most-liked pop star/actor working today, is apparently branching out into the world of action stardom. The vehicle for this endeavor is called In Time – directed by respected science-fictioneer Andrew Niccol, and it as hooky scifi premises go, it’s pretty golden. It’s the future, when science has cured aging, and everyone stops growing older at 25. Instead of gradually getting older and dying, the populace is given one more year to live. But the people can replenish their time remaining on Earth, since in this future society, time is used as currency, like money today. Pretty cool, right?

The trailer poses a lot of thought-provoking questions like “is it fair for some people to have lots of money while other people starve in the streets,” along with some ass-kicking and gunplay. Oh, and Pete Campbell from Mad Men is in it. Sold!

Between 'Gattaca' and this film, from now on, when you think "dystopia," think Andrew Niccol.

Andrew Niccol loved The Host so much that he not only adapted the book into a screenplay, but now he’s directing the damn thing. The adaptation of Twilight scribe Stephanie Meyer’s follow-up novel has gotten traction with this news and last week’s announcement that Saoirse Ronan (Hanna) will be starring. The news of Niccol’s involvement at the helm comes after Susanna White, who was originally attached as the director, came and went from the project with little fanfare.

Niccol has a slightly more proven track record as a screenwriter than a director, but it was his work as both on the film Gattaca that led Meyer to feel comfortable lending her work to him for adaptation.

For those unfamiliar, The Host follows a girl named Melanie Stryder (Ronan) in a time when parasitic aliens invade human’s bodies, erasing their personalities and consciousness. However, Stryder proves to be more resistant in giving up fellow humans once she is “invaded,” inspiring the inhabitant soul to reconnect with elements of her old life, including her boyfriend (OMG!).

It helps to understand it if you’re an alienated 14 year-old that wishes they’d never been born. (Variety)

If you're not into 'The Host' by Stephenie Meyer, you can just keep watching the skies instead.

Author of the Twilight series Stephenie Meyer’s novel The Host is tailor-made for a filmed adaptation. In addition to her Twilight-bolstered value as a name-brand, the book has a nifty scifi hook, about aliens who steal people’s bodies and erase their personalities.

Now we know who’s going to play Melanie, the main character and leader of the human resistance against the body-snatchers (called “Souls,” but “body-snatcher” is way cooler and more accurate) – Hanna star Saoirse Ronan. She’s also playing “Wanderer,” who appears to be the chief body-snatcher, and who finds that Melanie doesn’t go as easy as her human compatriots do.

The script is by Andrew Niccol, famous for Gattaca and his script for The Truman Show. He originally wrote the script with an eye to direct, then dropped out, and is now back in as a possible director again. Maybe his erratic behavior can be explained by his being controlled by aliens. (Deadline)

Mom?
Andrew Niccol is scooping up all the pretty people for his now untitled sci-fi film. Olivia Wilde is the latest hot, young thing to join the cast that already consists of Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy, and Vincent Kartheiser. Wilde will play Timberlake's hot mom, in the film about a society where the aging gene is turned off at age twenty-five. Hence, old and gross people can appear twenty-five forever.
Originally called I'm.mortal, the film is now currently untitled. That's good news for sh*tty trip-hop bands in Florida who may be in need of a name. (EW)

White guy cornrows always win in a Silly Head Contest.
Justin Timberlake has been offered the lead role opposite Amanda Seyfried in Andrew Niccol's dumbly-titled I'm.mortal. If Timberlake joins the cast of hot, young things in Niccol's science fiction-tinged excuse to meet attractive women, he'll play the role of a rebel from the ghetto who goes on the run with Seyfried as his hostage. That's right, "Breakin' Up My Heart" has talked street long enough that Hollywood actually believes him to be street. "Sup, girl. You just been took hostage by Orlando's most wanted. Nah mean? Buh! Buh! Rap!! Rap!! Rap!! Pssh!!! Betta ack like ya know." **moonwalks away menacingly** (Deadline)

Closer. Closer. They're almost on the glass. Just a little further....Amanda Seyfried has been announced as the first hot, young thing to join the cast of Andrew Niccol's I'm.mortal. The dumbly-titled movie tells the tale of a future society where the aging gene is turned off at 25, thus allowing sexys only, no olds allowed. Hot, young things must then buy and bank units of time so that they may hang on to their looks, or else they die. Much like on "The Hills."Seyfried is slated to play a wealthy, hot, young thing who is taken hostage and must run around and get all sweaty while pursued by a corrupt police force known as "time keepers." Promise me some slow-motion shots and I'll begin camping out in line for tickets today. That and because I got evicted from the overtipped canoe I've been living in. Stupid co-op board. (Variety)

Writer/director Andrew Niccol is returning to the world of science fiction and nerd love. The Gattaca and Lord of War director is preparing to helm I'm.mortal, from his own script. THR has the details:The story is set in the not-too-distant future where the aging gene has been switched off. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency and the way people pay for luxuries and necessities. The rich can live forever, while the rest try to negotiate for their immortality. The protagonist is a poor young man who comes into a fortune of time, though too late to help his mother from dying. He ends up on the run from a corrupt police force known as "time keepers."It's said that this is to be the most commercial of Niccol's work. Mainly because the premise's device would allow for a hot, young cast to attract and capitalize upon the tween demographic with their hypnotic abdominal muscles.Sounds like a really interesting premise. Gattaca with shades of Logan's Run. Not a fan of the title though. I'm.mortal sounds like something a Black Eyed Pea would tattoo on his or her clavicle.
