Shrek and Chronicles of Narnia director Andrew Adamson is heading back to the world of animation. For his next project, Adamson is bringing the comic Beasts Of Burden to the big screen. The story is set in the community of Burden Hill, and follows a gang of dogs and one cat who team up to protect their owners when supernatural events begin to occur. Not like those dogs in Super 8 who decided to get the fuck out of dodge when the alien arrived. Buncha pussies.

But let’s get serious for a moment. Gang of dogs? They have those?? Can I join?? Seriously, just tell me what part of me I’ll need to lick as part of the initiation and I’ll start practicing now. (THR)

Hugh Laurie Is ‘Mr. Pip’, Whatever That Means

In today’s breaking news about the star of “House,” Hugh Laurie, Hugh Laurie had a chicken salad sandwich on whole wheat, with Swiss cheese and sprouts. Also, he’s been cast in Mr. Pip, by director Andrew Adamson, adapted by Adamson from the novel by Lloyd Jones. It’s not, as I had previously thought, about the man behind Gladys Night’s band in the 50s.

“Mr. Watts [is] the last white man left on the war-torn island of Bougainville. Asked to open a school there, he reads the kids his favorite novel, Great Expectations. He bonds with the children over the book, which sheds some perspective on their own difficult lives.”

I’ve often said that I would watch Hugh Laurie read the phone book, so I guess him reading Great Expectations would be an upgrade from that. (Deadline)

James Cameron To Seriously Creep Us Out With Cirque du Soleil

I knew that 3D technology was too awesome of a power to expect that it wouldn’t corrupt. Now, James Cameron, driven made by stereoscopic film-making, is teaming up with Cirque du Soleil to take creeping us all out to the next level.

Cameron is currently in the midst of producing a 3D film based on Cirque du Soleil with Shrek / Chronicles Of Narnia director Andrew Adamson behind the lens. They’re about a third of the way through production after having filmed portions of Cirque’s Las Vegas show. The performances will be intercut with narrative bits that transport the film’s lead character to a magical world. A magical world where bendy, trippy, scary clowns can reach out of the screen and into your nightmares and make you have to turn to pills again. Then again, could be worse. (Deadline)
