David O. Russell’s ‘American Bullshit’ Cast Nearing Perfection

David O. Russell is putting together a film about Abscam, a large sting operation that involved politicians, foreign nationals, law enforcement, and some generally unsavory folks. And he’s titling it American Bullshit. That sounds like fun, right?

Well, this thing has gradually gone from good to great with the likes of Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Louie C.K., Jeremy Renner, and most recently, Jennifer Lawrence.

It’s hard not to get excited about this cast, director, and premise, which is exactly why Mark Wahlberg is checking his phone like a a fourteen year-old Asian girl, wondering if he’s in a dead cell zone or something because there has to be a good reason why Russell hasn’t called him yet.

Louis C.K. In Talks To Endure David O. Russell

Despite somehow losing the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Television Comedy to Don Cheadle last night, it looks like Louis C.K. might get his shot at a film nomination before long. C.K. is in talks to join David O. Russell‘s untitled Abscam film, previously known as American Bullshit.

Russell’s favoritest performers Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper and Jeremy Renner have already been cast in the film about a con man who works with the FBI. C.K. will play an FBI agent. Richard Jenkins must be pissed.

Louis C.K. certainly has come a long way.

Jeremy Renner To Dole Out ‘Bullshit’ With David O. Russell

Matt Damon surrogate Jeremy Renner is in talks to replace Christian Bale in David O. Russell‘s next project, American Bullshit, a film with a title so scandalous that…well, no one really cares actually. The title is fine.

David O. Russell has been bouncing around projects like some sort of item that bounces a lot recently, but has apparently landed on this film in which Renner would play a con man who becomes the target of an FBI sting.

This is exciting for two reasons:

1. It affords a remarkable synergy between actor Jeremy Renner and director David Russell, whose stock is trading at an all-time high after the widely acclaimed The Fighter.

2. More importantly, it allows me to totally put a contextual swear word in the headline of this article with devil-may-care abandon.

Life is good, folks. Life is good.

Ben Affleck Has His Pick Of Black List Bullsh*t

Thanks to The Town, Ben Affleck has put his history of terrible films in his rearview. He’s already passed on directing Superman: Man Of Steel and Tales From The Gangster Squad and has The Trade in the scripting phase. Now, Sony has handed him the Black List approved script American Bullshit. Which I just found out is not the title of a Kid Rock album.

Affleck is said to be seriously considering helming the true story of Abscam, a workout video that promised but failed to give 1993 Americans rock hard abs in just seven minutes. Oops. No. Abscam was actually the FBI’s 1980 undercover operation to root out corruption in Congress. It was devised by the world’s best con man (natch), and led to eleven convictions. And we all know what happens to Congress guys in prison now, don’t we? That’s right. They take away their C-SPAN privileges.

If there’s one thing Affleck has learned is that he needs to be more choosey when picking projects, so this is far from a lock. With Oscar buzz growing, it is likely he’s biding his time. In related news, J.Lo continues to suck. (Deadline)
