See A Romantic New Clip From 'Drive'

Of all the stuff getting promoted at Comic-Con, the thing I’m personally most excited about is Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Drive. Starring a cool Ryan Gosling, a beautiful Carey Mulligan, an evil Albert Brooks, and more adjective-matched stars, it looks to be an arthouse action movie to give Tarantino a run for his money.

This trailer, fortunately, has done nothing to make my level of anticipation decrease. There are some cool automotive stunts, and glimpses at the aforementioned stars, along with Christina Hendricks, Bryan Cranston, and Ron Perlman. I can’t wait to drive (my Segway) to my local theater to watch Drive!

The producers of the Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Drive are rolling out a fair amount of promotional material in advance of its upcoming Cannes premiere. There was the footage from a few days ago, and now a Cannes press kit that contains these photos (and more). None of which you should even be reading about if you are currently behind the wheel of an automobile of any kind. Driving is a privilege, not a right.

Now, for all of you not driving, you’ll notice that these photos have our first look at Albert Brooks, Christina Hendricks, Ron Perlman, and Bryan Cranston in the movie, in addition to star Ryan Gosling. So if you previously were unaware of what they looked like, you’re welcome. (The Playlist)

The car chase movie is experiencing something of a resurgence, with Fast Five actually getting reviews that resemble being in the same general area as “good.” But we’re still a ways off from the 60s and 70s, when true artists like John Frankenheimer, Walter Hill, William Friedkin, and Sam Peckinpah made car chase movies that were hard-boiled, stylish, and CGI-free.

Well, judging from this clip from Driven, which you can watch here, Nicolas Winding Refn is doing his part to bring back the cool car chase movie. And it has reasons to get excited in front of the camera, too: Drive stars Ryan Gosling, along with Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks and Ron Perlman. So, even if this clip was terrible, I’d still be there. It isn’t terrible though.

Is Albert Brooks Cool Enough To Join The Apatow Gang? http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/is-albert-brooks-cool-enough-to-join-the-apatow-gang/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/is-albert-brooks-cool-enough-to-join-the-apatow-gang/#comments Thu, 17 Mar 2011 05:51:13 +0000 Geoffrey Golden http://www.screenjunkies.com/?p=202121 Brooks is in negotiations for a part in the 'Knocked Up' spin-off, which I assume includes a lot of sad puppy dog faces from the Brooks camp.

There was a magical time six years ago, before the earth was blanketed by twitters, that Albert Brooks used to star in live action movies. Well, it wasn’t that magical, with films like Looking For Comedy In The Muslim World and The In-Laws dying in theaters, but he’s made up for those non-starters with great voice acting in Finding Nemo and The Simpsons Movie. Now Judd Apatow and his hip clique might allow Brooks to sit at the cool comedy table.

Brooks may join the cast of the Knocked Up spin-off, playing Paul Rudd‘s dad. He’s currently in negotiations for the part, which I assume includes a lot of sad puppy dog faces from the Brooks camp. Apatow has a reputation for insular casting, but today the floodgates are open. Earlier, we found out Megan Fox is also in negotiations for a role. Any celebrity who wants a job better call Apatow right now, while he’s generous. Does Gilbert Gottfried have Apatow’s number?

The film doesn’t have a title, but it does have a release date of June 1st, 2012. (FirstShowing)

Albert Brooks Is One Bad Motha in ‘Drive’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/albert-brooks-is-one-bad-motha-in-drive/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/albert-brooks-is-one-bad-motha-in-drive/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 Albert Brooks isn't exactly considered a bad-ass. Finding Nemo and Defending Your Life don't usually strike fear into the hearts of men. Aside from his cameo as a supervillain on "The Simpsons," he usually plays a mild-mannered guy...until now. Behold, Albert Brooks 2.0. Now the famed comedian is 90% more menacing thanks to his upcoming role in Drive, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. In the film, Brooks will play a New York mobster named Bernie Rose who moves to L.A. to kick ass and take names. The film also stars Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan and Bryan Cranston, who has turned into a bit of a bad-ass himself thanks to "Breaking Bad." Now that Brooks has gone tough guy, can fellow comedian and neurotic Jew Richard Lewis be far behind? Only time will tell. (Deadline)
