Firth And Diaz Getting Their Pose On In ‘Gambit’ Pic

The world is on tenterhooks to see if Colin Firth has conquered his debilitating stutter in time for his new “crime-comedy” entitled Gambit, which is a little bit like calling your romantic comedy Wolverine. It also stars Cameron Diaz, Stanley Tucci, Cloris Leachman, and Alan Rickman. The movie seems to be something to get excited about, mostly because it was written by the reliable-to-say-the-least Joel and Ethan Coen. Here’s what it’s about:

“Firth plays British art curator Harry Deane, who devises a finely-crafted scheme to con England‘s richest man and avid art collector, Lionel Shabandar, (Rickman) into purchasing a fake Monet painting. In order to bait his buyer, he recruits a Texas rodeo queen (Diaz) to cross the pond and pose as a woman whose grandfather liberated the painting at the end of WWII.”

Between that synopsis and the Coens’ involvement, this looks like it will be twisty fun. Below you can see the first photo from the movie, featuring Cameron Diaz and Colin Firth – and I promise you, this is 100% authentic, and in no way a fake. Just trust me.

Attention, muggles. Time to grab yourself a bag of disgusting magical jellybeans and watch the brand new trailer for Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2: Revenge of the Hallows. This is the very last Harry Potter movie ever, and it’s the one where everybody dies, especially all the good guy characters you’ve come to love all these years, so you’ve gotta watch. A higher quality version from Apple is due later tonight.

Directed by David Yates, it’s the last time Daniel Radcliffe plays Potter before going off and making less interesting movies. Emma Watson and Rupert Grint are back as Potter’s posse of Hermione Granger and Ron “Bonghead” Weasely, along with Ralph Fiennes, Alan Rickman and Helena Bonham Carter.

Judging by the trailer, this could be the darkest, most explodiest of the Potter movies. Oh man, a lot of Harry Potter’s friends have been killed at this point, and Voldemort is not afraid to push that button. On the other hand, Harry Potter isn’t afraid of a little cliff-diving, so I guess good and evil really do balance each other out.

Deathly Hallows Part 2 rides into theaters on a Quidditch-regulation broomstick on July 15, 2011.

Colin Firth To Steal Alan Rickman’s Stuff In ‘Gambit’

Apparently, one slow-talking Brit is not enough for the producers of Gambit, as Alan Rickman will join Colin Firth (and Cameron Diaz) in the remake of the 1966 heist film starring Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine.

The film, set to shoot in May in jolly old England, centers on a thief (Firth) that garners the participation of a beautiful woman (Diaz) to steal a priceless statue from a billionaire (Rickman). Haha, Hans Gruber! We’ll see how you like a taste of your own medicine! Mega-heists aren’t so awesome when they’re happening to you, are they?

Considering the script is penned by Joel and Ethan Cohen, might this be the first film to not portray Colin Firth as the world’s biggest buzzkill? Or will he portray a frustratingly droll and staid thief? The anti-Thomas Crown, if you will? Here’s to hoping they sprinkle some ecstasy over the craft service table and get a livelier performance from him for this one. Failing that, maybe some caffeinated tea will suffice. (THR)
