Maybe Chevy Chase could ask him for a job.

Though Sony fired him from the show he loved viciously, Community creator Dan Harmon is doing pretty good. Free of showrunning duties, Harmon has been busy developing several projects. One of which has just been picked up by Adult Swim.

The animated series Rick and Morty follows the adventures of an inventor and his dimwit grandson will premiere in 2014 with ten half-hour episodes. In addition to this, Harmon has sitcoms in the works with CBS and Fox, as well as a movie with Charlie Kaufman. Meanwhile, sworn Harmon-hater Chevy Chase is apologizing for shouting the n-word in public and waiting for the show on which he’s seventh-billed to come back from indefinite hiatus. But Fletch was pretty good though. He’ll always have Fletch.

Of course, it’s Adult Swim, so you know there’s no chance that they’re not going to take the opportunity to screw with their audience. And honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.

With all the build-up of the Adult Swim marketing machine, fans of both Cartoon Network and the countless stars attached to the project were expecting…something.

And something is exactly what they got. If by “something,” you meant a “shot-for-shot remake of the Simon & Simon opening credits but with Jon Hamm and Adam Scott in the lead roles.”

Just watch, ok?

Sick and tired of battling Saturday Night Live with dumbass sketch shows, Fox has devised a plan to get theyselfs a piece of the younger male audience. Cartoons.

Fox Entertainment President Kevin Reilly announced the new strategy at the TCA press tour over the weekend. He noted that one of the problems with the Fox Sunday night block of animated programming is that a lot of material is developed that could never work in prime-time. It only makes sense to air that stuff after Grandma goes to bed.

Adult Swim’s Nick Weidenfeld and Warren the Ape’s Hend Baghdad have been placed in charge of the new unit, which is expected to role out the new late-night Saturday slate in January of 2013. Fingers crossed that this awesome idea isn’t perverted into the animated adventures of Nick Cannon and Wanda Sykes. (Deadline)

One of them bangs a sex doll. Take a look, why don't you?

Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job are making a movie, a fact to which readers of this site are probably hip. What they (you) may not know is that Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie features some sick stuff that these two let out when the lax Standards and Practices guys at Adult Swim aren’t around to crack the whip.

What kind of sick stuff? Oh nothing really, just disgusting things like JEFF GOLDBLUM and ROBERT LOGGIA! Forehead dildos, and JOHN C. REILLY! Can your stomach take it?

I have to cram this piece with as many jokes and one-offs as possible in the hopes of weaseling out of establishing a narrative based on this trailer, a feat that is downright daunting. If someone would like to take a stab at explaining this film in the comments, that would be pretty cool.

In the meantime, let the weirdness and profanity wash over you in a soothing wave, with the knowledge that, soon, the weekend will be here.

At 15 minutes per episode, a new season means a whopping 90 minutes or so of programming the station won't have to worry about next year.

For a throwaway gag originally aired on a 15-minute web series, Adult Swim has to be happy with the performance of NTSF:SD:SUV. If they weren’t, then why the hell would they renew it for a second season?

The crime drama/procedural spoof starring Rebecca Romijn, Martin Starr, June Diane Raphael Paul Scheer, and Kate Mulgrew has offered a substantial return on its admittedly cheap investment, adhering to the sensibility that has made Adult Swim the success that it is today. According to TV By The Numbers, NTSF has posted “solid” growth and ratings. Anything “solid” is probably an unmitigated success when dealing with a demographic consisting largely of stoners and insomniacs.

The series will shoot season two some time in early-mid 2012, offering the writers plenty of time to watch 24 so that they can make fun of it a lot more.

And the winner is: <a href="http://www.break.com/surfacevideo/stevie-wonder/family-off/" target"_blank">Stevie Wonder.

When asked about the offensive aspects of the program during a Comic-Con panel, Green confessed that Wonder was not a fan of the way he was depicted on the show, and that he received an angry letter in response. Although Green went on to say that he believed it was actually Wonder’s people who were complaining, and not the singer himself. Writer Doug Goldstein agreed, pointing out that Wonder probably hasn’t even seen the show. Get it? Get it?

While speaking at the Childrens Hospital Comic-Con panel, actor Ken Marino confirmed that a feature film based on the show “is a go.” Maybe you already knew it was confirmed, but there’s something special about hearing it straight from the horse’s mouth.

The comments came after the screening of an episode of Childrens Hospital entitled Bar Mitzvah, which featured a cameo by the Party Down cast.

In the words of Marino himself, that news is so good that “I’d dip my balls in it.”

After a brief introduction, Sheer and the rest of the cast took to the audience, filming a scene in which a terrorist steals a clip of The Hobbit and threatens to move the convention to Vancouver. The whole thing lasted about five minutes, and will probably only make for about 30 seconds of usable footage. That said, if you happen to catch the segment, be thankful that televisions only allow you to experience sight and not smell. The Adult Swim audience knows their humor, but they don’t seem to know about deodorant (I kid because I love…but honestly, it smells in here).

Killer dolphins are just the beginning.

A few months ago, we got to visit the set of the latest half-half-hour Adult Swim comedy, NTSF: SD: SUV. Paul Scheer created this spoof of terrorist action shows in which his National Terrorism Strike Force protects San Diego… and has some cool Sport Utility Vehicles.

In a plotline usually reserved for later seasons of long running seasons, Scheer already had the NTSF go to an alternate dimension for the episode he was filming during our visit. That’s an example of the crazy shenanigans in store for NTSF: SD: SUV. We spoke with Scheer for two minutes in between takes and talked about cell phones, screaming and kidnapping.
<a class='img' href='http://www.screenjunkies.com/video/no-animal-is-safe-in-adult-swims-ntsfsdsuv-trailer/' title='No Animal Is Safe In Adult Swim's 'NTSF:SD:SUV' Trailer'>
No Animal Is Safe In Adult Swim's 'NTSF:SD:SUV' Trailer

Q: When you watch the serious counterterrorism shows, what makes you think, “This is hilarious?”

Paul Scheer: Those shows are so crazy to begin with. That was actually a challenge in writing the show because we were like how do we top what’s already going on? I mean, you have shows where guys are wearing bombs around their neck and you have shows where, oh man, there’s an episode of CSI that takes place in Star Trek, like a 1960s version of Star Trek. There are episodes where people ar buried alive. Those shows blow ours away so we had to kind of find a way to trump it. On our show we have killer dolphins and we have time travel. Every time, we laugh. I think this show could actually be on the air as a real show. It’s not so different.

Q: Do you have a lot of angry screaming cell phone calls?

PS: Oh, primarily angry screaming cell phones. A lot of people cutting each other off, never saying goodbye, a lot of furious driving. A lot of that.

Q: And someone gets kidnapped every week?

PS: Well, I would say someone gets shot every week. Someone’s definitely shot. Every week, someone gets reprimanded. I wish someone gets kidnapped every week. Definitely kills. People get killed. A lot of people get blown up.

Q: This episode is in an alternate universe, right?

PS: Yes, there’s a CERN device in Sweden and the San Diego mayor decides to build her own CERN device here to get the tourism up. In protecting it, I actually time travel to an alternate dimension where NTSF is actually terrorists, not terrorist stoppers.

Q: Why doesn’t everyone have goatees in the alternate universe?

PS: Well, everyone in this universe has ponytails. That’s the thing. We’re not doing the traditional Star Trek. We’re going ponytails. So everyone here has ponytails.

Q: What do you like about the 15 minute Adult Swim format?

PS: The 15 minute Adult Swim format gives you just enough time to not get sick of something.

NTSF: SD: SUV premieres July 21 at 12:15AM on Cartoon Network.

What Children’s Hospital did to medical dramas, it appears NTSF:SD:SUV will do to police dramas such as Law & Order, CSI, and 24.

Originally a bumper parody from Children’s Hospital, NTSF quickly spun off into its very own 15 minute series, getting disproportionately big names like Martin Starr, Adam Scott in a wheelchair, Rebecca Romijn, Jeff Goldblum, Rob Riggle, Wilmer Valderrama, Kate Mulgrew, and Ed Helms, all of whom seem to have no problem putting their images aside in the name of jackassery.

There’s no shortage of awesome moments in this trailer, but if I had to pick a favorite one, it would certainly be the guinea pig exploding at the :40 mark.

Also, a beached dolphin gets punched. Like the bastard he probably is.

They share what's happening this season. Especially about all the porno.

The third season premiere of “Childrens Hospital” last week marked the return of the weirdest short-form television production on air. Like most of Adult Swim’s comedy offerings, the show is chock-full of frequent non-sequiturs, irreverent pop-culture jabs, and tongue-in-cheek references to events that never actually happened. Each episode is 15-minutes of rapid-fire comedy. There’s no plot, no carry-over between episodes, and no story-arcs to speak of. The only consistent element is the character lineup: A group of absurd, self-involved doctors with problems.

I sat down with the actors during the show’s last week of filming. In many ways, they’re just as quirky as the characters they portray.

Name: Henry Winkler
Character: Sy Mittleman, the hospital administrator

Screen Junkies: How’s your character looking this season?
Henry Winkler: I love Sy. He is misguided. He is a little goofball who tries to run this hospital, and he doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing.

SJ: Where do you pull the inspiration for your character from?
HW: That’s just it: He is so weird. I just listen to John [Stern], David [Wain], and Rob [Corddry]. I sometimes don’t know what’s happening and I’ll go to Rob or John and say “Just tell me, what are you thinking?” And then I try to get close. For instance, a couple of days ago we filmed a scene where my character shot a pornographic movie in the hospital. He’s the hospital administrator, but he rented out a room to a film company that shoots X-rated films, and then he joined in as a cameraman. So it’s just wacky.

SJ: Do you have any experience playing such a weird character? Your role on “Arrested Development” could be pretty out there at times.
HW: On “Arrested Development” he was just sexually unsure of himself. My character on “Arrested Development” wore chiffon underwear. Sy wears BVDs.

SJ: How does that difference in briefs translate to a difference in character?
HW: Well, you’re always aware of the feeling of the brief that you’re in, and that is where I have my character start. Sir Lawrence Olivier used nose putty, and he would create a nose for his character. Once he got the nose right, he knew the character. True story. For me, it’s the underwear.

SJ: Is this something you’ve been doing for most of your career?
HW: No, I kind of grew into it. No pun intended. And you know what? In a lot of ways, the Fonz really was the foundation of Sy. If you watch Sy very carefully, you can see the underpinnings of the Fonz in him. The cool guy in this nerd.

SJ: How do you like working with the rest of the cast?
HW: Honestly, this is an extraordinary cast. Each one of these human beings is a home run hitter. Each one of these people could be the head of their own show. They are funny, the very definition of funny. What doesn’t get on screen is a shame, what’s left on the cutting room floor.

Name: Rob Huebel
Character: Dr. Owen Maestro

Screen Junkies: What’s coming up in season three?
Rob Huebel: There’s a lot of cool stuff. There’s a ’70s episode, there’s another documentary episode where we find out what happens to us in the future, post Childrens’ Hospital, we all get really cool spinoff shows. Also, we see what we all do when we’re not at the hospital. I’m an airline pilot, of course. There’s an old-timey 40s episode, more of a play really. So there’s a few special episodes. Not where anyone gets molested or someone’s retarded or anything like that. Those are really special episodes. These are just special episodes. I find my father, I find my foreskin from when I was circumcised, I get it reattached. All of those things happen in the same episode. I die, I come back to life, there’s porn stars, there’s a goat. There’s a lot. It’s hard to keep track of. There’s also a lot of sex. Lots of cross-pollination on the show. But that’s something all hospital shows do, so we make fun of it.

SJ: Any notable guest appearances to look forward to?
RH: Yeah. In the comedy world, there’s a lot. Sarah Silverman, Nick Kroll, Rob Riggle, Seth Morris, Brian Huskey, Nick Offerman. Stephen Root from Office Space plays my dad. Yeah, there’s a lot. Oh, and there’s a black doctor this season.

SJ: Are you guys going outside of the hospital at all?
RH: We’re going to Brazil to shoot for real. You know, the show is a Brazilian-based television show, which is a joke that was made in season one and no one cares about it at all or knows. Like, you would be confused if someone mentioned that. But it is. The hospital is in Brazil, and we have to go to Brazil to shoot. There’s actually a fair amount of stuff that happens outside the hospital. There’s an episode at the beginning where you see what we’re all doing in our off hours. That’s all outside of the hospital. Everyone has different side jobs. There’s also an episode that just follows around the ambulance driver, documentary style.

SJ: Do you think the show could work the same way if it was a full half hour?
RH: No. We would never do that. If you do that, you have to have stories and you have to develop characters and there has to be continuity. You have to be consistent, and that seems boring. That’s a bad idea. We like to just have no consistence or continuity and just jump around and make it funny.

Name: Erin Hayes
Character: Dr. Lola Spratt

Screen Junkies: How’s shooting going?
Erin Hayes: It’s good. We’re doing a really different kind of episode right now. We get to do whatever we want, so we don’t even have to reference what we’ve done in past episodes.

SJ: Every episode is standalone.
EH: Every episode is totally standalone. It’s going to probably frustrate some people because we mess with the storyline so much. It’s just the freedom to do anything. We kind of pride ourselves on having no character development and no storyline arcs apart from what happens in each episode.

SJ: Is this your first experience with a show like this?
EH: Yeah. Mostly I’ve done traditional network sitcom type stuff. Most shows are like that. There are very few shows that do things differently, especially now with all those shows where people get very into the mythology and the back-story and the whole world. We really don’t need to bother with any of that. It’s very free.

SJ: How much of the show is improvised?
EH: It’s fully scripted, but improv does play a role. I think that’s really nice because there are so many amazing people in this cast who are very good at it. So you do a take, you certainly get what’s in the script, but if in rehearsal somebody just throws something in, a lot of times the producers standing around will say “That’s great, keep that” or “Let’s change that around.” It’s not set in stone, so if there’s a funnier joke that comes out, that’s what ends up in there. There’s very much a do the take then do whatever you want aspect to it.

SJ: Are there any big developments in store for your character this season?
EH: There’s one that’s really weird. The characters get put on night shift at the hospital and Nick Kroll comes back as a completely different character that’s completely hilarious. I stumble on a porno shoot that’s happening in the hospital and my character’s response is just to cry. I just start crying. It sends me to a deep, dark place. I really have very few lines in the episode, but I’m crying a lot. I feel like it almost deserves a prequel episode, because there are questions in Lola’s childhood about what the fuck happened to this person. But there’s no explanation.

SJ: How long is a typical day on set?
EH: Around 12 hours, but days have been going longer than that. We pack so much in. We do an episode every two days, so it’s a lot to get that much. They also write very ambitious scripts, so we’ve been able to get it done but it has meant some long days. But they’re also very fun days, so you don’t mind being here. Then again, I forget what my children look like for about a month every year so there’s that.

Name: Ken Marino
Character: Dr. Glenn Richie

Screen Junkies: What’s it like to be a part of “Childrens Hospital“?
Ken Marino: It’s great. Anytime I come to work I feel lucky and blessed to be working with these people. When we did the web series, we just did it because it would be fun and because Rob’s awesome and Dave’s awesome, so I said sure. The fact that it got turned into a 15-minute show, which is kind of the perfect amount of time for an episode, was a pleasant surprise. I’m just happy to be along for the ride.

SJ: How would the show change if episodes were 30 minutes?
KM: The show is built on just a barrage of jokes, and the characters can kind of go anywhere, and the show can go anywhere. If you’ve got a half hour it needs to be grounded a little more, and there needs to be more heart on screen. Right now there’s a lot of heart in the making of this. The people involved in making it love it and are passionate about it. But the characters are kind of despicable, and it’s hard to put an emotional throughline in it. When you have a 30-minute episode you kind of need that, because you start to tire of just joke, joke, joke, joke. I think 15 minutes of it is kind of perfect, because you can just enjoy the jokes and the silliness of it.

Name: Malin Akerman
Character: Dr. Valerie Flame

Screen Junkies: Who is Valerie hooking up with this season?
Malin Akerman: It’s more like who isn’t she hooking up with. She’s a very interesting character, and everything is so discombobulated that I can’t even remember who she hooks up with. I know she grabs Rob Corddry’s balls to keep him scared of her. She has a little crush on Lake Bell’s character and gets her to get naked, which is great.

SJ: It seems like there are no boundaries to who or what gets made fun of in the show.
MA: As crazy and out there as the whole show seems, I know that the creators put a lot of thought into how far we can actually push it. They want to push it to a point where everyone kind of cringes and goes “oh my god, we can really do that?” but not the point where we lose our viewers. So there is so me thought that goes into how far we push it, but Adult Swim has been so lenient with us and given us so much creative space to play with. Shooting is like summer camp with your best friends where everyone is a part of the creative process. It feels like everyone is there to make everyone better.

Catch “Children’s Hospital” every Thursday at midnight on Adult Swim.

Blurring the line between entertainment and adulthood.

Adults everywhere love to watch Adult Swim on Cartoon Network, because of their mature, sophisticated programming that is designed by adults, for adults. And now the programming block is unveiling three new mature series and several projects, blurring the line between entertainment and adulthood. Here’s what they are:

“‘The Heart, She Holler’ – a new live-action soap opera about folk who ain’t never used soap or seen an opera. It’s a satire on the emotional Hee-Hawification of America, set in a town so inbred, the folks have become almost supernaturally wrong. The series is produced by PFFR, and stars Patton Oswalt and Heather Lawless.”

‘China, IL’ – Frank and Steve Smith ar brothers who teach in the history department of a state university in China, Illinois. They also happen to be legends in their own minds who will often sacrifice facts, lessons and syllabi for the sake of being awesome.

‘Tight Bros’ – a new animated comedy that follows two moronic “clergybros” who are on a quest for fat beats, hot chicks and tricked out cell phones. Vince and Aaron were called by God to spread a holy message: one of peace, love and tearin’ up the club. By day the two sell religious kitsch at a kiosk in Viceroy Del Sol mall. By night they hunt for babes, but only with mega tans and super smooth waxes in place.

The really interesting announcements though are the pilots that have been placed in development. There’s the previously announced pilot from Bob Odenkirk entitled “Regal Productions,” plus untitled projects from “Community” creator Dan Harmon and hip-hop collective Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. Also “The Dummiez” from Nick Cannon, an untitled Major Lazer project, and “Rolling With Dad,” an animated sitcom from Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg. It’s going to be a great year for lovers of adult-oriented TV!

They ordered five seasons of Tim and Eric Awesome Show, which Odenkirk wrote and performed for, and will soon be a “billion dollar” budget motion picture with Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis. So the Adult Swimmers are wisely asking Odenkirk to create a new television show that makes fun of the shitty production values of locally-produced videos. *Inset VCR Tracking Effects*

Odenkirk’s new AS pilot is called “Regal Productions,” a live action show about a production company based out of a North Hollywood strip mall that makes “wedding videos, internet ads, low budget infomercials and even feature films for ‘ancillary’ markets.” Sounds like a solid premise for what I assume will be a sketch comedy show. Hopefully there will be a lot of bits that revolve around Odenkirk attempting to sing.

Odenkirk will star in the pilot along with “Regal Productions” co-developers Brian Jarvis and Jim Freeman. (Deadline)

Take notes 'The Governator'. This is how it's done.

We all have to work harder as people to wash the putrid taste of The Governator trailer out of our mouths. Luckily, Adult Swim knows this.

The Cartoon Network late night programming block has picked up an animated version of Black Dynamite to series. Based on the awesome 2009 Blaxploitation parody, the cartoon follows the adventures of a former-CIA agent as he strives to avenge his dead brother and wipe out crime in the process.

The series is being run by Carl Jones, who last brought “The Boondocks” to the network. Which means, the only way the Black Eyed Peas will be involved with this series, is when they get a much-needed beatdown. (Deadline)

Yesterday, our own Fred Topel visited the set of Adult Swim‘s upcoming series, “NTSF:SD:SUV”, which stands for National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle. He’ll post his interviews with the cast closer to the premiere this summer, but until then we have these shout-outs to tide you, and us, over.

In honor of the renewal of Jackson Publick's groundbreaking show, we've put together these nine bad ass Brock Samson moments.

Adult Swim’s nerd-a-rific cartoon, “The Ventur Brothers,” has been picked up for two more seasons. That’s great news for fans of OSI man, Brock Samson. For years, dorks have been cheering the exploits of the mullet wearing monster, and it looks as if they’ll continue doing so for years to come. In honor of the renewal of Jackson Publick’s groundbreaking show, we’ve put together these nine bad ass Brock Samson moments.

Melee Weapon

Any secret agent worth his salt knows that improvisation can mean the difference between life and death. Weapons are no exception. As Brock demonstrates in the clip above, sometimes, you have to use every tool at your disposal.

Brock Sings Technotronic

Brock might be a remorseless killing machine. But deep down, he has a heart of gold. Nowhere is this more apparent than when he sings Technotronic songs to a mortally wounded enemy…or should I say an enemy who thinks he’s mortally wounded.

Testicular Cancer

When interrogating a suspect, any lug can try to beat information out of a captive. But a savvy spy knows that sometimes it’s better to get inside his head. Being a professional, Brock easily switches from physical to psychological methods of persuasion.

Molotov Cocktease

No woman can tame Brock Samson, but one woman came close: Molotov Cocktease. Anyone who can win her heart must have balls of steel. The two have a long and sordid history, a fact that is only complicated by her Soviet-era chastity belt.

Bear Killer

This clip doesn’t need much of a setup. Brock Samson kills a polar bear with a knife. It’s extremely simple, and incredibly bad ass.

Shark Decapitation

Sure, cutting someone’s head off is bad ass. So what does that make cutting someone’s head off with a dead shark? Keep in mind, Brock also killed the shark. That’s some hardcore shit right there.

Yeah, I know it’s only a cartoon. Piss off.

Mummy Dearest

While pissing on a mummy after you’ve already killed it might seem like a bad ass, yet pointless, gesture, Brock has his reasons. After all, when it comes to killing mummy’s, this isn’t his first rodeo.

Top Chef

"Venture Bros" co-creator Jackson Publick posted great news about his Adult Swim show on LiveJournal. Yeah, LiveJournal. Remember LiveJournal?

Most commentary tracks I listen to are incredibly boring and reveal nothing of note, except how appreciative the director truly is of his second key grip Marty Norfman. Maybe it’s because all the interesting stuff is sucked out by super-villains, replaced with egotistical droning that’s meant to hypnotize us into buying more DVDs… buy more DVDs… buy more– whoa.

Anyway, leave it to the real life Team Venture – Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer, co-creators of Adult Swim‘s adventuretastic show “The Venture Bros” – to drop a nugget of awesomeness in their season 4 DVD commentary track. According to Publick, who also posted the info on his LiveJournal (yeah, LiveJournal – remember LiveJournal?) the duo has signed on to create two more seasons of The Venture Bros. and a 60-90 minute special that might be a direct-to-DVD movie.

“Don’t ask me when we’ll make it, what it’s going to be about, or whether it’ll be on TV or direct-to-DVD, because we don’t have a clue yet,” says Publick.

Sounds to me like he knows and won’t tell us. I’m gonna ask that question at their Comic-Con panel, and when he gives me the same answer, I’m gonna keep shouting until the geek guards take me away. It’s what Number 21 would do, I’m sure. (AV Club)

Matthew Senreich comments on the latest batch of Star Wars jokes and gives us a preview of the show's fifth season.

Matthew Senreich called me Monday morning to talk about “Robot Chicken Star Wars III,” which airs this Sunday on Cartoon Network. The third Star Wars special covers the entire six films, pretty much in chronological order, though it’s still a series of stop motion sketches. It opens with Emperor Palpatine reflecting back on his life to the tune of “Teenage Wasteland.”

Spoiler alert: Matt and I talked about specific sketches in the show, in case you’re really worried about giving away the punch line. It’s more fun this way though. The producer of “Robot Chicken” commented on the latest batch of Star Wars jokes and gave us a little preview of the show’s fifth season.

Screen Junkies: Were any of these bits holdovers from previous “Star Wars” specials or are they all new pitches?

Matthew Senreich: I’m trying to think if there were any holdovers. No, I think they were all new pitches. There’s one gag that has made it into the final, it’s just a moment we ended up putting into this special where it’s the Emperor falling down the chasm and passes by someone drinking a drink, then looks at the drink and throws it over his shoulder. That’s probably the only gag that one of our writers was trying to get in from the first special and then got rejected, was pitched for the second special, almost made it in and got cut. It actually shows up in this one just because it fit into the overall story. For the most part it’s all new stuff.

SJ: Of course there was a whole generation that grew up on Star Wars. Now is there a generation that grew up on Star Wars references?

MS: You know, Seth [Green] was actually saying that recently. He met someone who’s first introduction to Star Wars was through “Robot Chicken Star Wars.” As he says, that’s wholly irresponsible. It’s just preposterous to us that people would show this version over the original movies just because those movies are just classic. I remember seeing the original Star Wars when I was four years old and it had a massive effect on me.

SJ: But we live in a world where everything references Star Wars.

MS: That’s true, but do people realize when things are being referenced? I’m hoping that the generations growing up today are still putting in the DVDs for their kids so they watch these Star Wars movies first before they start watching all the movies that reference them later on.

SJ: Even if it’s the special editions?

MS: Honestly, it’s any of the above. The one thing I’m coming to realize as I have nieces and nephews and cousins is that they like the prequels more than they like the originals which I find very interesting because it’ faster paced and it’s more colorful. It’s just a different generation and thought process. For me, I’m not that way and I will fight like hell with my five-year-old nephew saying how the original Star Wars is one of the greatest movies of all time, and he’s explaining to me how The Phantom Menace is infinitely better. Then adding to that, there’s a whole generation growing up on “Clone Wars.” Even my nephew doesn’t really watch “The Clone Wars” because the parents feel like it’s a little too dark but he has all the toys and can tell me the stories of the characters just from the toy boxes.

SJ: Was it hard to get “Teenage Wasteland?”

MS: That was essential to making this third special. We cut a trailer, this must have been three years ago, with that song in it. Chris McKay who directed the special and I wanted to put together a trailer to pitch Lucasfilm on a longer format special. He put that music into it. As soon as I heard I was like, “All right, this is essential to this story.” It was not an easy process in anyway.

SJ: Does Lucas provide the blue text font for the credits?

MS: I don’t think so. I think we have that here.

SJ: What is the font?

MS: That I don’t know. I have to ask my editing team. I’m sorry about that. I wonder if we can Google it. That’s a good question. Even still, I’ll have to ask my editing team that. They put all that together.

[There are conflicting font reports online too.]

SJ: Is High School Musical’s Zac Efron the best voice for Anakin?

MS: I can’t lie. He’s one of those people who is way more talented than someone ever needs to be. He came in and did some stuff for us in our last season and just was unbelievable. We knew if we were going to bring him back, he needed to do something even better. Yeah, his Anakin is spectacular.

SJ: Do you feel you came up with a better explanation for Darth Vader’s suit than Episode III actually did?

MS: Well, we just want to know what all those buttons do. I also like the fact of yeah, why did he request that or why did the emperor put him in that? Did he not want to paint him?

SJ: Is Vader’s disco dance better than screaming “Noooo!”

MS: Uh, disco makes everything better?

SJ: Were you wanting to include the Lego Star Wars franchise with your little Lego bit?

MS: We’ve been looking for a way to play with the Legos for a long time now. The best thing about it is just Billy Dee Williams just makes everything better, so putting the two together was just spectacular. Those games are so much fun to play. Those sets are great to sit around my house and my office so it was just to try to find something fun to do with them.

SJ: Why is Mace Windu eating ice cream?

MS: Actually, you know what’s funny about you asking that? That’s actually not in the final version. We ended up cutting it because a lot of people asked that question. It’s just showing the fact that here’s what happened to Boba Fett and what his life was like. Then it was cutting to Mace Windu just being like this is how awesome his life is. This is the guy who killed this guy’s dad and this is how wonderful it is. He’s just worrying about ice cream, and that just did not play at all so we cut the Mace Windu beat.

SJ: Did you all have a fantasy that Boba Fett wins?

MS: I think Breckin Meyer still has the fantasy that Boba Fett wins. I think it’s one of those things where for us Boba Fett is just awesome but undeniably he kind of doesn’t do anything in the movies. He just looks cool. He gets killed pretty quickly and easily so we just want him to be as cool as that suit is.

SJ: Was Lucas okay with having the emperor refer to himself as Darth Syphilis?

MS: Yeah, everything in there has been fatherly approved. It’s flattering that he seems to enjoy what we do. That’s what happened to him. He got burned.

SJ: Do you have a real beef with the Calamari guys?

MS: It’s only the Emperor kind of commenting, making very observational humor. He’s really pointing out the fact that they would smell like a fillet of fish. Who knows if they just got out of the water?

SJ: Is this really the first time you did a skit on Darth Vader spinning around at the end of A New Hope?

MS: Yeah, this is the very first time. Sort of. I guess it’s the other side of the Emperor phone call if you think about it. He probably called the Emperor from that spinning ship.

SJ: It seems like a lot of people have issue with Yoda’s cave in Empire Strikes Back. “Family Guy” even said it slows the movie down and confuses us. What were your beefs with the training where Luke fights the fake Vader?

MS: I’ve never seen The Force work like that in any of the other episodes but Geoff Johns actually came up with that idea for us and pitched it. I think the room just ran with it. Yeah, was that just a dude? Can The Force conjure up some magical fantasy like that? Was he sleeping? This is our take on it, how Yoda kind of screwed it up.

SJ: Do you have real sympathy for the Wompa from Hoth?

MS: That is my favorite sketch in the entire special, hands down.

SJ: It’s kind of emotional the longer you linger on him just trying to get around with one arm.

MS: It’s one of those things where when we did the animatic, we scored it to the music from the movie Heat. It was so powerful and then we had to come up with something that was going to match that. Our composer, Shawn Patterson, did an amazing job doing that. That just gets all that emotion across and when that operatic theme comes in at the end, you’re heartbroken.

SJ: Is there an actual rivalry between you and the “Family Guy” Star Wars spoofs and the Seth Green connection?

MS: It’s funny, a lot of people ask us that. There’s no rivalry. It’s kind of like friendly jest if you will. Mike Henry did voices, MacFarlane does voices for us, Seth does voices for them. It’s a lot of back and forth. Throughout the whole process, we’re talking to each other, making sure we’re not cannibalizing each other’s jokes. I wouldn’t call it a rivalry or a hatred or anything.

SJ: At some point do you have to stop thinking about Star Wars?

MS: Why would I have to stop thinking about Star Wars? That sounds mean.

SJ: Could there be a “Robot Chicken Star Wars: Episode IV?”

MS: Who’s to say that we haven’t done episodes IV, V and VI and we’re talking about if we have to do I, II and III?

SJ: Should the Emperor have used his power for good all along?

MS: Who’s to say he didn’t really? He might just be misunderstood. He’s running a giant corporation and he’s trying to make it happy for everybody out there. We don’t know he’s doing it.

SJ: Are the Avatar and Twilight spoofs still coming up?

MS: We have, it’s going to be in [season] five that we have both of those.

SJ: What’s your take on Avatar?

MS: Let’s just say we’re doing a music video.

SJ: Is it unfortunate that because of the time it takes to do stop motion, now there’s been a whole year of Avatar spoofs?

MS: We’ve seen a lot of them and we got a little nervous on one that we’ve seen but it was nothing like ours. We definitely have a take.

SJ: Can you say whose made you nervous?

MS: I’d rather not. There’s a lot of good stuff out there but ours, Patrick Stump sings it for us and it’s spectacular.

SJ: Is nailing Twilight perfect for “Robot Chicken?”

MS: Yeah, we actually had two sketches for Twilight and I think only one of them we’re actually doing. I thoroughly enjoy it. It’s actually shooting right now on stages.

In their ongoing pissing contest with <a href="http://www.screenjunkies.com/Video/the-family-guy-its-a-trap-spoofs-return-of-the-jedi-trailer/" target="_blank"'Family Guy,‘ Seth Green and the’Robot Chicken‘ gang have created a third Star Wars special as well. And here we have three trailers. One imagines the Emperor, Vader, Boba Fett, and Gary the Stormtrooper as sitcom stars. The other goes the Ocean’s Eleven route. And, the third is set to a techno beat so you can laugh while tripping balls. Man, Adult Swim really knows its demographic.

Stoners, get ready to be happy. Adult Swim has picked up 12 episodes of “NTSF:SD:SUV” or Nation Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle” for long. Originated as a mock promo that played during Adult Swim’s parody medical show “Childrens Hospital,” the quick bits did an equally fantastic job of parodying crime procedurals, another television staple that rakes in millions of old people eyes each week Paul Scheer, who dons an impressive head of hair in the promos, will exec produce the show with “Childrens Hospital” exec producer Jon Stern.

The “NTSF:SD:SUV” mock promos featured actors such as Rob Riggle, Brandon Johnson and June Raphael. They’re expected to return for various episodes, but not star in the series as regulars. If you’re an avid Adult Swim fan you should be used to cameos by now. Almost every single show on the network drops in a guest star with each new episode. How else are you supposed to keep the stoners from drifting off to sleep? (Deadline)

Earlier this year, when the producers of Final Destination 5 supposedly changed the film's title to 5nal Destination, the Internet was quick to rebuke the decision. After all, how could anyone pick such a stupid title (unless, of course, they were looking for a week's worth of free publicity provided by easily outraged Internet dorks like myself).

But time heals all wounds, and the producers have gone a long way toward reconciling with the Internet crowd thanks to the addition of David Koechner to the cast.

Best known for his comedic roles, Koechner was featured in Anchorman, "The Office," and is currently involved with Adult Swim's hilarious live-action comedy, "Children's Hospital." He has also provided comic relief in a previous horror film, Snakes on a Plane. That being said, he better be channeling the ghost of Richard Pryor if he's going to save this film from the Grim Reaper. (Bloody Disgusting via Empire Online)

The action series stars Paul Scheer as a Jack Bauer/David Caruso hybrid, and Rob Riggle as a general/terrorist or something. I think what we should all focus on here is the fact that the team employs a rocket launcher-touting chef. Not enough shows have that. Check out the preview after the jump....

Cartoon Network has announced the addition of Rob Corddry's medical spoof, "Children's Hospital," to its Adult Swim lineup. The Webby Award-winning series, which began airing on TheWB.com in 2008, regularly skewers medical melodramas such as "Grey's Anatomy" and "House." For those of you who don't know, "The Webby" is a trophy made of my old toilet paper rolls and empty Kleenex boxes that is presented annually to the best original series on the Internet.Cartoon Network will begin airing the five-minute webisodes back to back until August 22, at which time they will be replaced with 12 made-for-TV episodes, each with a 10-minute run time. This web-to-television transition gives hope to all of us "Internet writers" who aren't lucky enough to have a funny dad or a friend with a funny dad. Screw you, Patrick. (Variety)Check out a clip of the Webby Award-winning "Children's Hospital" after the jump.
