After a long wait, we’re finally treated to a taste of Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln. Remember this moment. It is the culmination of years of planning, casting setbacks, and however long it takes Daniel Day-Lewis to grow a beard. There’s not much to see in these brief clips, but we are given some soundbites. Is that really the voice Day-Lewis is using for Lincoln? That’s not Lincoln-y at all. I think I prefer the original Bane voice to this.

We’ll learn a lot more about the film when the full trailer debuts on Thursday. Perhaps the camera will continue to dolly around to reveal Abe in full penny pose.

Some might be turned off by Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter on principal alone. Dismissing it as gimmick that doesn’t warrant their time or attention. Perhaps it is a gimmick, but I would like to offer the counter-point, ABRAHAM LINCOLN BEHEADS A FLEEING VAMPIRE WITHOUT EVEN HAVING TO LOOK AT IT.

I’m sorry. I’m nervous. After Cowboys & Aliens pooped its rucksack, I’m not sure there’s an audience for something as far out as this. So let’s band together as a nation and watch it so Hollywood keeps giving money to clever and creative fare. I’m sick of England getting all the cool stuff.

We have our first picture of Daniel Day-Lewis as President Abe Lincoln. And after comparing it to this penny I found on the men‘s room floor, I have to say he really looks the part. That bodes well for Steven Spielberg, who is currently directing Lincoln in Virginia. But I have to wonder if this early buzz is really going to matter, considering we all know the ending: He gets his head blown off! I apologize if I’ve spoiled the film for any recent immigrants.

At any rate, since we all know the ending, maybe Spielberg should consider spicing it up a bit? Here are 9 suggestions. You’re welcome.

False alarm, folks. You can go back to no knowing who the hell Robin McLeavy is. Mary Elizabeth Winstead will play Abraham Lincoln‘s tenderoni in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter after all.

Latino Review reported earlier in the week that Australian actress McLeavy had won the role after following up on a tip. A very wrong tip.

Take all of my Lincoln‘s wife jokes from Monday and apply them to Winstead. Apologies for any confusion. Last thing I want to do is undercut the artistic merits of this super-gimmicky film. (THR)

Secret vampire hunter Abraham Lincoln has taken a wife. Though it’s likely they will sleep in separate beds.

Australian actress Robin McLeavy has been cast as Mary Todd in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the film that re-imagines the 16th President of the United States as kick-ass vampire slayer. It’s said that McLeavy was in the running for the part along with Mary Elizabeth Winstead, but director Timur Bekmambetov opted to cast up and coming talent in the end. Which means less money spent on actors and more spent on decapitations and removing fake blood stains from stovepipe hats. (Latino Review)

"Up top! Nobody? No? Aw krikey."

Looks like Eric Bana won’t have a chance to play with his Christmas toys. He’s just signed on to a new crime thriller and has his eye on the presidency for another role.

Bana has signed on to Kin, opposite Olivia Wilde and Charlie Hunnam. In the film he and Wilde play siblings on the lam who encounter an ex-boxer played by Hunnam. Writer Zach Dean has said he came up with the idea while trapped on an airplane with faulty landing gear. I do my best thinking while crapping too.

In addition to Kin, Bana is practicing the proper pronunciation of Timur Bekmambetov‘s name before the two meet to discuss Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. It’s not a done deal by any stretch but if Bana can rock the stove-pipe hat, the role just might be his. Unless Liam Neeson steps up to the plate. We kinda owe him a Lincoln role. ‘Wanted’ Director Timur Bekmambetov to Take On ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/wanted-director-timur-bekmambetov-to-take-on-abraham-lincoln-vampire-hunter/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/wanted-director-timur-bekmambetov-to-take-on-abraham-lincoln-vampire-hunter/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 Looks like someone is finally willing to make a movie about Abraham Lincoln. The unspell-checkable Timur Bekmambetov has signed on to direct Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Here he explains his plans with a dry, Tontoesque delivery: "I'm prepping to direct myself. It is not a comedy at all - it is a very entertaining, epic history lesson for millions and millions of teenagers. If you remember 'Nightwatch,' it is maybe in the vein of that kind of movie. We are keeping the traditional look of Lincoln - the big hat and the beard. He has to be historically correct, but with a few special weapons. There is only one book, but there will be many opportunities to develop and explore this world if we get to do sequels. I hope we will start this winter. We are shooting in America." I am excite to see this movie. No word yet casting of role of Abraham Lincoln. Actor will be tall. (Empire)

Liam Neeson Peace-Outties On Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/liam-neeson-peace-outties-on-spielbergs-lincoln/ http://www.screenjunkies.com/movies/movie-news/liam-neeson-peace-outties-on-spielbergs-lincoln/#comments Wed, 30 Nov -0001 00:00:00 +0000 Happier times. The Arrested Development: The Movie of biopics, Spielberg's Lincoln, has suffered a further set-back. After years of waiting around and releasing Krakens and playing Jedi Masters and A-Team leaders, Liam Neeson is reportedly out this bitch. The formerly-attached star revealed to the UK's GMTV that he's "past his sell-by date" for the project. It's unclear what he meant by that. Either he's tired of waiting on Spielberg to get around to filming, or he's aged too much to convincingly play the part. At any rate, Spielberg can expect a receipt in the mail from Neeson for one stovepipe hat. And he'd better not dilly-dally on paying. (Digital Spy)

The author of the historical horror novel, Seth Grahame-Smith (sounds like a Count), also wrote the New York Time's Bestselling Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I have a copy sitting under a pile of Highlights magazines. If only there was a way to condense the entire novel of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter into visual form... An "adaptation" if you will. Spielberg could direct and Liam Neeson could star. That one's for free, Hollywood. Send my fee directly to some organization that teaches kids to read. No one should have to grow up and blog for a living.Read the trailer with your eyes after the jump.
