Jennifer Lawrence Wins ‘Hunger Games’ Tween Movie Jackpot

Remember when we reported a few days ago that Winter’s Bone actress Jennifer Lawrence was the front runner to star in Hunger Games, the hot property that’s being hyped, along with every other movie in development, as the next Twilight? Here’s the link. I’ll wait for you to read that post.

Done? Great. Now here’s the story’s startling conclusion: Lawrence did get the part. *Confetti* To land that role, she had to beat out every other young actress in Hollywood (actually young, not wearing a bunch of blush and putting your hair in pigtails young), including Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) and Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine). Presumably she signed on for the upcoming sequels as well, because Lionsgate assumes they’re gonna be making a lot of sequels… Two to be exact.

Lawrence plays the role of Katniss (cat hiss?), a girl from our bleak future who puts her life on the line to save her village in a dystopian survival contest. Since the sequels star Katniss, I assume she’ll be just fine. Lawrence will be fine too, if the movies are as popular as the books by Suzanne Collins.

But how about guys who are dragged to a film billed as the new Twilight? Will we be fine? I do not have that information yet. Stay tuned. (TheWrap)

Jennifer Lawrence Winnning Dystopian Catfight For ‘Hunger Games’ Lead?

Every young actress in Hollywood is after the lead in Hunger Games, based on the first in a series of dystopian novels by Suzanne Collins, that are apparently similar to – what else? – Twilight. You’d think every studio executive was bitten by vampires, the way these Twilight wannabes keep coming. And who can blame actresses like Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) and Abigail Breslin (Zombieland) for wanting a little chunk of that Twilight change.

However, it looks like one actress is emerging victorious. 20-year-old Jennifer Lawrence has Winter’s Bone-d her tough competition and is currently the closest to nabbing the part. Lawrence would play Katniss, a young girl in a shitty future, participating in a televised survival death match. I assume many of the ripped male contestants in these so-called “Hunger Games” compete with their shirts off. Maybe that’s why the Oscar nominee is so anxious for the role? It’s why I’ll probably be anxious for it to leave theaters as soon as possible.

Hunger Games will be directed by Gary Ross (Pleasantville) for Lionsgate. (Variety)

Update: Sources at Lionsgate claim Jennifer Lawrence has not been given an offer, but is pulling ahead of the pack. So Steinfeld still has time to shoot her in the belly.

Chloe Moretz And Every Other Young Actress Want In On ‘Hunger Games’

Chloe Moretz, Lyndsy Fonseca, Emma Roberts, Saoirse Ronan, Kaya Scodelario, Emily Browning and Shailene Woodley are just a few of the actresses who are up for the lead in the high profile adaptation of the bestselling young adult novel The Hunger Games. Hailee Steinfeld, Abigail Breslin and Jennifer Lawrence are also in the running for the part of the poor teenage girl who offers to compete in the titular game, a televised fight to the death. According to Entertainment Weekly, there are upwards of thirty actresses in contention for this role. Considering many of these buzzed about actresses, including Ronan, Moretz, Roberts, and Steinfeld, are all top contenders for the role, perhaps they should have their own televised fight to to death. They could film it and release in on DVD a week before The Hunger Games comes out on March 23, 2012. Just spitballing here. (The Playlist)

Yeah, But THIS Teen Vampire Movie Stars Abigail Breslin

Like a ripped, shirtless teen transforming into a vampire after a bite, the movie industry has been transformed into something awful by Twilight. Everything’s gone Twilight, from Highlander to dragons for chrissake, and it seems like the new genre of emotional teen vampire movies keeps swooping along. The latest victim is Abigail Breslin (Zombieland), who stars in director Hilary Brougher’s Innocence.

Beslin, who’s going from one fad monster to the next, plays an “innocent” (the title) girl who discovers her prep school is home to vampires. So change the book author from Stephanie Meyer to Jane Mendelsohn, the setting from public school to private school, Twitchin’ Stewart to Breslin and you’ve got the Wendy’s to Twilight‘s McDonald’s. Though Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Right) is Breslin’s co-star, and I doubt her character will be asking if you want to supersize your blood order. (ComingSoon)

Katherine Heigl To Serve As Sub-Halle Berry

The world has been breathlessly awaiting the romantic pair of Halle Berry and Jon Bon Jovi in the upcoming film New Year’s Eve. Unfortunately for the world (and fortunately for Halle Berry, hey-o!), Halle Berry is being replaced by America’s sweetheart Katherine Heigl (maybe she can also star in a parody “Nude Year’s Eve“).

Apparently, Heigl just adopted some poor kid and was looking for a project that wouldn’t require a huge time commitment. New Year’s Eve fits the bill, since as a follow up to Garry Marshall’s surprise hit Valentine’s Day it’s a big ensemble piece. Just a couple pinches of Heigl, as opposed to a whole dish. Dunno why I went with a food metaphor but whatever. New Year’s Eve will also star (deep breath) Robert De Niro, Sofia Vergara, Russell Peters, Hilary Swank, Ice Cube, Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michele, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, Josh Duhamel, Sarah Jessica Parker, Abigail Breslin, Seth Meyers, Jessica Biel and Til Schweiger.
