The folks at 20th Century Fox have picked up a horror script based upon the works of Edith Wharton, so naturally they’ve hired <del>Joe Wright</del> <del>AnthonyMinghella</del> Ben Stiller to direct. That’s right. Ben Stiller is attached to the period horror film, The Mountain. The story is based on Wharton’s Summer and follows a young woman who receives a mysterious brooch from a lover that forces her to look into her past.

Stiller will reunite with Reality Bites scripter Helen Childress for the Rosemary’s Baby-tinged project. There has been zero confirmation of Eddie Vedder‘s involvement from his camp.
All that's left to do is hire stunt doubles.

It’s done. After a long search and tense negotiations, Bruce Willis and 20th Century Fox have decided to just go with John Moore for Die Hard 5 after all.

Originally, Noam Murro was hired to film a 75-year old John McClan fighting bad guys in Russia. However, he jumped ship to direct the much more shirtless 300: Battle Of Artemisia. Then, the studio made the offer to Moore (Max Payne, The Omen) but Bruce Willis wasn’t completely sold. A few directors were brought into consideration, including Attack the Block’s Joe Cornish, Drive’s Nicolas Winding Refn, and Fast Five’s Justin Lin. Ultimately, Moore won over Willis with his ability to stage and shoot practical, non CGI-heavy action scenes without crashing the budget by vaulting a flaming car into it. (Deadline)

Colton Harris-Moore is ready to give back. The Barefoot Bandit was captured in July of 2010 after a two year crime spree when police in the Bahamas shot out the engine of a stolen boat which he was using to allude capture. I love this kid. And so does Hollywood. Colton-Moore has signed a movie deal with 20th Century Fox for $1.3 million that he will use to repay his victims.

“I did things that were not only a violation of law, but also of trust,” Harris-Moore said a written statement released by his attorneys. “I can’t undo what I did. I can only try to make things better.”

He said he wanted the statement to be read by the people of Camano Island and the San Juan Islands, “where I was born and raised.”

He said he would only sign if his victims would be repaid.

“I am humbled to know I can now help the people I hurt, at least for the financial damage I caused them,” Harris-Moore wrote. “I have absolutely zero interest in profiting from any of this and I won’t make a dime off it. It all goes to restitution. That’s what I insisted on from the beginning and the contract I signed guarantees it.”

Colton-Moore is currently working on a script about his incredibly metal story with Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black. As his lawyer comments, “Nobody knows the nitty-gritty of Colton’s story.” I look forward to learning all of the details. Now go put on some shoes, hippy.

This group of soldiers in the Congo obviously aren’t familiar with Dunston Checks In or select episodes of Night Court. If they were, they’d be aware that primates are intelligent, precocious creatures capable of advanced learning and mimicry. And in the case of Dunston Checks In, they’re also adept at expertly surfing on hotel room service carts.

Anyway, this is an amusing little viral for Twentieth Century Fox’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes. My only regret is that they didn’t take the opportunity to dress the chimp in people clothes.

Cinema Con is in full swing in Las Vegas and our existing warrants prevented us from attending, but that doesn’t mean we can’t live vicariously through other movie sites. /Film got their hands on a promotional calendar from 20th Century Fox that contains first looks at their upcoming releases that we’ll be poking fun at over the next year. Let’s check them out together while we feel disdain toward the kitten calendars hanging on our office walls that don’t feature movie first looks. Stupid calico. Get out of that birdcage. You are not a bird. You are a kitten.

RISE OF THE APES

Our first look at the CG Caesar. Not too shabby. Excited to see what the apes look like in full. Unless this is actually Frieda Pinto. In which case, ming! Girlfriend let herself go.

NOW

Is this a movie or a Justin Timberlake music video? I’m guessing the lack of Timbaland or white guys with cornrows means it’s a movie.

THE SITTER

I’m told 95% of this film takes place at a fast food drive-thru. Hill’s suggestion.

I’ve got good news for anyone who was left cold by X-Men 3 or Wolverine. Producers have decided to give X-Men: First Class a plot. Now that’s a step in the right direction!

X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

Nobody is really certain what exactly ‘Armageddon’ means. It might mean the end of the world as we know it, or it may refer to a mutant enemy. Or it just might be that monster truck. Personally, I’d be more fearful of Gravedigger. He can jump the larger amount of cars.
20th Century Fox has decided to lawyer up against a webmaster who posted the leaked Deadpool script on her online screenplay database. The studio has filed a $15 million suit against Patricia McIlvane on the grounds of copyright infringement. Isn’t reading Deadpool punishment enough?

Though she wasn’t the original source of the leak, McIlvane is being targeted while larger sites like io9 and the original leak have not been targeted. She describes how she received the news on her website:

Two strangers knocked on her door and informed her, in front of her children, 20th Century Fox was suing her for 15 million dollars. Two hours later, after grilling her with questions for two solid hours, they left her stunned and crying in her living room staring at a business card that stated they were “private investigators.”

This was the first contact PJ had from 20th Century Fox regarding a Media Fire online script library she created — and was the day 20th Century Fox filed a law suit against PJ in federal court for fifteen million dollars.

Seems harsh. Whatever happened to a cease and desist? The jokes on Fox though. I don’t think she even has $15 million. They’re going to be really embarrassed when they get to court. (THR)
