’2 Guns’ Trailer: Mark Wahlberg & Denzel Washington Finally Get Around To Doing A Movie Together

So, all of a sudden there’s a trailer for a Mark Wahlberg/Denzel Washington action-comedy that nobody knew existed called 2 Guns. The poorly-titled film stars Wahlberg and Washington as a Naval Intelligence officer and a DEA agent respectively working undercover to steal money from the mob. However, neither realize the other is an undercover agent so they rationally try to kill one another until they’re forced to team up and talk smack to one another and roll around and wrestle and stuff and argue over whom will do the driving. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a film about guys trying not to be violently murdered by Edward James Olmos.

It’s appears to be a coincidence, but it’s our job in the media to turn this into some sort of anti-Wahlberg vendetta. As 2 Guns eyes a winter start, David O. Russell is reported to have walked away due to a scheduling conflict with The Silver Linings Playbook, while Vince Vaughn‘s reason for departure is unknown. Crippling co-dependence on David O. Russell, perhaps.

2 Guns is the film adaptation of a comic book of the same name, in which a Naval officer and a DEA agent unwittingly investigate each other while stealing mob money for the CIA. However, they soon learn that they’ve been stealing from the CIA for the mob. Stuff ensues.

It’s unknown if Wahlberg will be playing Vaughn’s character or the other lead. It really doesn’t matter, because Wahlberg, with that vacant, befuddled stare, has demonstrated he can nail “unwitting.”

David O. Russell Can’t Decide Which Set He Wants To Scream On Next

David O. Russell has had a pretty good year, thanks to his mostly-acclaimed boxing drama The Fighter. And now it seems he’s having trouble deciding what to tackle next, if this article from The Playlist is to be believed. It lists approximately 8 billion possible next steps for Russell, including but not limited to:

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune – An adaptation of the popular video game.

The Silver Linings Playbook – A comedy/drama possibly starring Anne Hathaway and Bradley Cooper.

2 Guns - A comedic actioner with Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn.

Cocaine Cowboys - Based on a documentary of the same name about a drug dealer from New York who moves to Miami.

Old St. Louis - A comedy in the same vein as Paper Moon starring Vince Vaughn.

Whew. This is not even mentioning all the projects he’s been attached to and isn’t any longer. Or the untitled Ice Cube “Dirty Harry-like” project. Take some time off, Dave! Who do you think you are? James Franco?

Russell and Vaughn Get Two Tickets To ‘Guns’ Show

Continuing his countdown from Three Kings, David O. Russell is about to jump into 2 Guns, a Vince Vaughn vehicle that is based on a military comic book of the same name. Russell is expected to rewrite the original Blake Masters draft and direct the film, which has been held by Universal since Vaughn was attached in 2008. Negotiations to get Russell on board are advanced and are expected to be finalized very soon.

Two Guns has a Mr. and Mrs. Smith-like premise in that it features two Naval officers investigating each other unbeknownst to one another. The two then find that they have stolen money from the government for the mob and they presumably go forth to set things right and save their own lives. The other lead has not been announced, but Vaughn’s ability to react and riff should open the field up to just about any actor or actress with a pulse and a SAG card.

2 Guns is a property of Boom! Studios, the founders of which, Andrew Cosby and Ross Richie, are serving as producers of the film as well. No timeline has been given for production or release, but this has all the makings of a tentpole release. Here’s to hoping we get the slim Vince Vaughn for this one. (Hollywood Reporter)
