The Poster For ‘Grown Ups 2′ Must Be Some Sort Of Joke

There’s very little to draw from in this image (below), but it’s still enough to confuse the viewer on several fronts.

Why are they falling? Is that a Mad Men-type metaphor?

Why does everyone appear terrified about falling except Adam Sandler? The fact that he is furthest down indicates that perhaps he is the bravest, which would be why he’s smiling, and also possibly their leader.

Kevin James has a really weird beard. That’s not a question, but still merits discussion.

Why are they all wearing t-shirts when their exposure to water was a near-certainty? It’s probably because they don’t have great bodies.

Is the tagline for the film really “Summer isn’t just for kids?” Who made that claim? Also, having four man-children jumping to the abyss on the poster doesn’t really do much to refute that claim. If they put Ian McKellan, Christopher Walken, and maybe Richard Nixon on the poster, getting wet in t-shirts, then you could state a case that, no, summer is not just for kids, but having Adam Sandler enjoying summer doesn’t speak to its adult disposition.

Well, if Cloud Atlas served as just another title in the pipeline of fanboy sci-fi films, this photo of Hugo Weaving donning four very distinct (and dare I say sexy?) looks should help the project graduate to the next level of realness in the minds of many readers.

The Wachowski brothers, who have written and are directing the film, have long said that the actors will play multiple characters in intersecting story lines, and this image should prove that they weren’t lying. I’m sure we can expect other collages soon, but bask in the glory of Weaving for now.

Hypocrisy in Hollywood (Infographic)

Hollywood sure does like to bitch about copyright violations. On the one hand, I see their point, because no matter what anyone tries to tell you, illegally downloading movies online is stealing. Spin it anyway you like, but at the end of the day, piracy is no different than shoplifting.

But on the other hand, I just don’t give a damn. That’s not to say I condone piracy, but it’s hard for me to get worked up about movie studios losing money. When it comes to things I’m supposed to care about, the damage caused by movie piracy ranks just above my carbon footprint, and just below factory farms. And this infographic explaining the roots of the Hollywood system isn’t helping matters. Sure, there are worse things in this world than hypocrites, but at the same time, blatant hypocrisy makes it extremely easy to dismiss legitimate concerns. Sorry, Hollywood.

Game of Thrones is only a few months away, and the anticipation is killing me. No, I mean it. Waiting for the show is literally killing me. The doctors have never seen anything like it, so they keep trying to pin it on diet, lack of exercise, and recreational drug use. But in my heart of hearts, I know they’re wrong, and these festering track marks on my arms would heal if only I could gaze upon the magical land of Westeros. But until then, I guess these 17 pics from season two of Game of Thrones will have to do. They feature all your old favorites (Tyrion Lannister, Robb Stark), your least favorite (Joffrey Baratheon), as well as some new faces (Stannis Baratheon and his Red Lady, The Onion Knight, etc.). This Week In PR Bullsh*t: The First Official ‘Skyfall’ Still

When it’s your job to cover movie related bullsh*t, it’s kind of stupid to call something out for being bullsh*t. So if you want to call bullsh*t on my calling of bullsh*t, that’s fair. Either way, the release of the “first official still‘ from the new James Bond film, Skyfall, is probably the biggest PR non-event of the week.

Let’s say the average move lasts about 90 minutes. I’m not exactly Rain Man, but that breaks down to 5,400 seconds per film. Assuming this film was shot at 24 frames per second, that comes out to 129,600 frames per film. So by looking at this boring picture of James Bond holding a gun, you’ve just witnessed 1/129,600_th of the movie. Excited yet?

Thanks so much, MGM! My life really does have a purpose, and it’s bringing people joy one pointless still at a time! Now 2/1/2012 will be remembered as the day we first saw a frame from Skyfall rather than the day that a hack movie blogger put his head in the oven.

After yesterday’s release of the 2012 Oscar nominations, many felt that actor Andy Serkis was snubbed. His proponents feel that Serkis’ role in Rise of the Planet of the Apes was unjustly passed over by Academy members who don’t fully understand the nuance involved in a motion capture performance. However, some critics maintain that motion-capture roles should not be placed in the same category with traditional performances due to the heavy reliance on CGI technology.

Whichever camp you fall into, there is one thing on which we can all agree: While performing, Andy Serkis looks like a huge jagoff.

I get it. It comes with the territory. You can’t play a convincing ape without acting like a stupid monkey. And his results on screen speak for themselves. But it doesn’t change the fact that a man hopping around in a “Green Man” outfit with a bunch of pins stuck to his face looks like a fool. Are the events depicted in Minority Report coming to pass in the real world. YES! At least that’s what this infographic I found on the Internet claims. I tend to get most of my information from infographics.

At any rate, if Minority Report really is coming to pass, is that such a bad thing? Sure, it means we’ll gradually lose our constitutional rights and bow down to Tom Cruise, but that’s a small price to pay for self-driving cars and genetically altered plants that attack intruders. Also, I’ve always wanted to do a bald girl with psychic powers being kept in suspended animation, so really, this is a win-win for me. But take a look at the infographic and decide for yourself.

We have our first picture of Daniel Day-Lewis as President Abe Lincoln. And after comparing it to this penny I found on the men‘s room floor, I have to say he really looks the part. That bodes well for Steven Spielberg, who is currently directing Lincoln in Virginia. But I have to wonder if this early buzz is really going to matter, considering we all know the ending: He gets his head blown off! I apologize if I’ve spoiled the film for any recent immigrants.
