World War Z was something of a sleeper hit, which is funny given its massive marketing budget and costs overall. However, with Marc Forster at the helm, the film had suffered countless delays and overruns that led many to believe it would be the biggest flop of 2013.

It wasn't. It did really well.

However, given the production scares, along with animosity between Forster and star Brad Pitt (which resulted in them passing each other notes because they refused to speak to one another) the producers, whom Pitt himself was one, opted to go in a different direction for the sequel.

So they got Juan Antonio Bayona to do it. Bayona has depth of experience in catastrophe films with last year's The Impossible, and with scary death stuff after directing The Orphanage.

And Brad Pitt will probably speak to him, which is a plus.
