Why can’t a movie be plot-less? Why does it have to have structure? We have all been use to the same way to make movies and maybe Terrence Malick wanted to try something different. It is like watching a painter paint a masterpiece, for me it was a great movie which is why I have seen it three times already. But that is my opinion and everyone has their own so to each his own.

Hahahaha if Tree of Life is sh*t then House of the Dead should have been aborted, along with every other movie of his.

Yes, but Uwe Boll is quite experimental too. His films repeatedly test my patience. The results aren’t good.

Kind of dickish to claim that I didn’t get it because I didn’t like it. I sat there for the two and a half (three? I don’t know…) hours just like the rest of you, don’t act like you had some transcendent understanding that I simply wasn’t able to achieve.
Maybe I didn’t “get” it. But then again, maybe YOU didn’t “get” it. Ever consider that up there on your pedestal?
Look, if you liked it, good for you. I wish I liked it. I really wanted to. I’d rather like a movie than not like a movie if I had a choice.
I do not feel that this was a movie. The camerawork and much of the acting was wonderful (though how much of the acting was actually acting, seeing as how most scenes were barely scripted, is another discussion) however it lacked absolutely everything else. Notice I didn’t say it lacked IN everything else, I said it lacked everything else, because there was absolutely nothing else there (aside from obligatory things like hair and makeup, etc…) that makes a movie a movie. There was no structure, there was no plot (everything and selected scenes from a family/Sean Penn melancholily walking is not a plot), there were no actual scenes, just shots, some of which were intercut, there was no dialogue, only monologue, nobody actually talked to one another only at one another, it utilized the laziest trick in screenwriting to the max with the absurdly heavy handed voice overs– I’ll stop there. I mean, there was absolutely nothing I could hold onto. And I was searching. I was grasping at anything and everything in the theater. I really did try.

… And I’ll try again. I’ll watch it on blu ray because I usually respect Mallik. In the meantime if you’d care to explain something to me instead of simply attempting to belittle me then i’d love to hear it.
