‘The Bodyguard’ Being Remade, Old Version Lacks Twitter And Google Maps

Wednesday, February 23 by

Warne Brothers, unwilling to be trumped by news of a Soap Dish remake, has thrown down the gauntlet with news of a remake of The Bodyguard, as if to say “We challenge, nay, dare a studio to find a less essential film to remake than we.”

Because the original’s release in 1992 was practically eons ago, there will be adjustments made to make the landscape recognizable to us future-folk. For instance, there will be references to “Twitter, Google Maps and TMZ” in the film. Topical! That’s something we can all relate to.

Further, the bodyguard will be an Iraq war veteran who is making his way after returning from the Middle East. But other than that, it’s the same film: Popular female singer gets threatened (maybe by text message!), bodyguard guy saves her life, they fall in love.

We can speculate all we want about the casting possibilities here, but if you really don’t think that at the end of the day it’s going to be Rihanna and Channing Tatum, you’re kidding yourself. (Deadline)

As much as I think it will be Rihanna and Channing Tatum, because that’s the way this stupid world works, I would really like to see the chemistry Bruce Willis and Cybil Shepard shared during “Moonlighting.” They’re the best.
