Summit Looking For The Next Tween Obsession

Friday, March 18 by

It seems that the Twilight series is coming to a merciful end. But the lucky corporate entity behind a big part of the Twilight cash cow is already looking for the Next Big Franchise, in the form of another series of romantic-supernatural-young-adult-thriller books. And at Summit, that next big thing is expected to be Divergent. That sound you hear is thousands of teenagers looking up the word “divergent.” Here’s what it’s all about:

“It takes place in a futuristic dystopia where society is divided into factions as kids are categorized based on human traits. A teenage girl and guy rebel against the labels, which is a very dangerous thing to do.”

Maybe one of those “human traits” is “reads young adult novels like Twilight.” Anyway, Summit has purchased the film rights, so expect to be seeing a lot of shit about this sooner or later. The article also has information on the myriad other properties that Summit Entertainment is developing, including one about “teenage illusionists who are bred to battle but instead fall in love.” OK. I actually love the Twilight series and it will be sad when it ends ! So please have some more sympathy for your readers. You do have some Twilight fans on here who aren’t little teen girls.

Sounds pretty cool since I read a lot of dystopian novels. I don’treally like the word tween. Most young adult dystopian novels, such as this one are written for TEENAGERS, bot tweens. When I hear the word tween, I think of terrible things like Hannah Montana and Justin Beiber.
