Character actor Stephen Root (Red State) has a way of turning up in unlikely places, especially now that he's escaped from the comedy ghetto of his earlier work. Now, he's been added to the already-in-production J. Edgar from drama ghetto denizen Clint Eastwood.

He's joining a pretty impressive cast, with Leonardo DiCaprio in the titular role of FBI head J. Edgar (Hoover), The Social Network's Armie Hammer as J. Edgar's "companion" Clyde Tolson, and Judi Dench as J. Edgar's mother.

All right-thinking film fans should be excited about this, because Stephen Root is one of the most fascinating people to watch in movies today. And if you're skeptical about his ability to be in serious dramas, see his recent work in No Country For Old Men and the TV series"Justified." (via The Playlist)
