Roland Emmerich Offered Chance To Blow Things Up In ‘Asteroids’

In news that will make Paul W.S. Anderson throw a hairbrush at Milla Jovovich in anger, Universal has offered Roland Emmerich the director’s chair on the upcoming adaptation of the video game Asteroids. If he accepts, it won’t be typical Emmerich fare where aliens show up and bomb the shit out of Earth. This is a grown up, post-Anonymous Emmerich we’re talking about here. This film will not involve the destruction of Earth at all. Rather it will take place after the destruction of Earth and humankind lives alongside the conquering aliens in outer space colonies. Not happy with destroying just Earth, the aliens now decide to wipe out humanity as well. Jerks.

I only hope that these space colonies have some distinctive landmarks. Otherwise, what’s the point, man? (Vulture)
