Robert Patrick Will Be Taking Over Bryan Cranston’s Role In ‘Gangster Squad’

Fun fact: His brother is the lead singer of Filter.

The T-1000 has shifted forms so that he will now be mimicking Bryan Cranston in Ruben Fleishcer’s Gangster Squad. After Cranston’s departure, the role of Texan cop Max Kennard will now be played by Robert Patrick, who played the “bad” cyborg in Terminator 2. But can a robot actually be “good” or “bad”? The answer is: I have no idea.

Patrick, who has been a working character actor since before his break in T2, is best known as Fox Mulder’s replacement in the later seasons of The X-Files, as well as degenerate gambler David Scatino on The Sopranos.

Gangster Squad is building excitement through casting alone, having also signed up Emma Stone, Sean Penn, Anthony Mackie, and Ryan Gosling.

The character of Max Kennard, as mentioned above, is a native Texan who has been transferred in to LA to take a crack at organized crime, led by Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). I could see him nailing that southern accent, and his stoic presence could play well in this role. However, if he and Sean Penn are in a scene together, it could create a vortex of intensity that causes the universe to collapse into itself.
